We ordered takeout from here on a Sunday evening due to their catering to both vegans (us) and meat-eaters (some family members). Nice assortment of interesting dishes to choose from. We ordered 6 vegan dishes (pictured below), which were mostly pretty solid. The ma-po tofu, spicy satay vegetables, and eggplant were perhaps the highlights; the rice noodle dish was pretty uninspired. Not particularly authentic, but you can't expect that in the Okanagan -- there was a decent spiciness to some of them, like the ma-po tofu. It took a little longer for the food to be delivered than they said, but it wasn't too bad a wait. The portions were solid, though the prices were on the high side (often $15+) for moderate portions. Not sure if I'd return, but it's a decent spot to cater to different dietary preferences. read more

This used to be one of the best Chinese food restaurants in Kelowna. Not worth it anymore. War Wonton Soup on their menu shows Baby corn, mushrooms and water chestnuts. Actual soup, broc and slivers of carrot. Spring roll was also under cooked. Won't be looking forward to eating there again. read more

I wish I could write this as a -10 star, absolutely one of the worst restaurants and Chinese food places I've ever been to. The server was nice and good, the owner was absolutely horrendous. I was blown away by how rude she was to the customers. We ordered a drink and got something completely different. when the server brought it back, the owner came charging over to us and was telling us that is what we ordered. on top of that made us pay for the drinks that she messed up on. For both of them. There is a bit of a language barrier, but she was very rude, very ignorant, and was not being very professional or nice at all. I was actually blown away as I've been in the serving industry, my entire life for over 25 years and I've never witnessed anything like this in my life. I would never step foot in this business again and I would tell everybody I know tonight support them. The food was mediocre. The server was amazing and I don't think she'll be there much longer as she told me that it was her third day and she doesn't think that should be able to stay there with somebody that treats her customers like that. read more

!!!WARNING!!! The worst food in town. Just blew $70 for dinner fir three and it was horrible. The spring rolls were oily and kind of rubbery. The almond chicken was over breaded and over deep fried which made them soggy tasteless lumps. The Ginger beef was also over breaded and I have no idea why they said they were "spicy". And the biggest and most horrific disappointment was the hot and sour soup, it was disgusting! It had a bunch of random old fishy seafood that is currently making my stomach flip! This was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I've tried some disappointing Chinese, but this takes the cake for sure! The egg drop soup tasted like creamed corn; luckily our 6 year old likes creamed corn, otherwise that would've been a waste. The broccoli beef had the texture of and tasted like wet cardboard. The spicy beef wasn't spicy at all and tasted like the sauce had A LOT of vinegar in it. But luckily there were a couple of decent items. The miso soup was what you would expect from any Chinese restaurant. The egg rolls were decent, although we have NO idea what was in them (the menu didn't help with this). Lastly, the white rice was pretty darn good. I would never recommend this place to anyone else. Ok so we were really hungry after a busy day in kelowna and my buddies were craving for Chinese food. We decided Mekong as it was easily accessible and the only restaurant which said Szechuan loud and clear. Since I'm a spice lover szechuan is my favorite kind of Chinese food with Cantonese being on the other side of the spectrum. Now either kelowna people can't take authentic Szechuan spicy food or Mekong isn't really authentic. Being from Vancouver I can tell now whether the food style is Szechuan or not. The food wasn't bad though but just not szechuanese enough. Even though I asked them to make it spicy it still tasted like spicy Cantonese food. There was no sign of peppercorn or peanuts. The ambience and service was excellent our server "crystal" was very nice and courteous. So eventhough the portions are large and you might not finish them it's good food but just not authentic Szechuan enough. It's more like canadianised form of Chinese food. Placed a large order and specifically said no prawns as my husband is extremely allergic. I had the girl repeat the order. I asked do you have no prawns because there is an allergy. She said yes. Waited an hour for the food and guess what??? PRAWNS!!! I called right away. The owner answered the phone. She said oh sorry. I requested a new order right away and was not going to wait another hour. She said she didn't know how long it would be. I said to her do you know how serious it is when someone specifically says no shellfish due to an allergy?? Again she was sorry. I cancelled the order. She called back 15 min later and said we could have another dish in 20 minutes. Said no. Have NO trust. Last time I ordered months ago they had done the same thing. That's why I had the girl specifically write allergy on the order. The owner said the chef doesn't speak English well that's a concern! NEVER ordering from there again. Food was tasty and filling service was great , restaurant clean , nicely decorated to suit the theme of the restaurant we ordered fried rice , kids meal which was awesome to see ! DO NOT ORDE FROM MEKONG!!! I ordered delivery last night and they messed up the order. They forgot part of the order to start with. The food I did order and receive was requested to be medium spicy and it was so spicy we could not eat it. I took the food back which was barely touched and the lady was very rude and refused to refund my money. This NEVER would have happened when Dan owned the place. I have been ordering food from Mekong for 25 years and since new owners took over last year prices went up and quality and service went way down. We wanted a big bowl of Chinese noodle of wor wonton soup. So we ordered dry garlic ribs as an appetizer and were quite good. Also some egg rolls which tasted like they were soaked in grease. When the soup came out it was the worst I;ve ever eaten . Dish water would have had more flavor. They could have used ichhiban packaged and would have been wonderful in comparison what we got. Cost, 60.00 incl tip. 3 of us. (92 year old and 2- 70 year olds) I would not recommend this place to an enemy. read more

Our RVing group met for lunch here today. When we arrived they told us the were late opening because 2 people called in sick. There were about 20 of us and 2 1/2 hrs later 8 people had still not received their food. Some that did couldn't eat because it was too cold. We were never offered drinks but they did serve water. I have never had service this bad ever before! My meal was hot and wife's was cold so we didn't pay for hers. I doubt we will ever go there again. read more

This food was abysmal. We ordered 3 dishes the breaded prawns, cashew chicken, and pineapple chicken. Upon the first bite it seemed acceptable, but as we continued eating we realized it was disgusting. The shrimp tasted freezer burnt even though it was claimed to be fresh. The chicken tasted old and undercooked and the sauce was straight from a bottle with no seasoning. Not to mention the food was very expensive and went uneaten and we are not ones to waste food. I don't understand why the Chinese food in the Okanagan is so notoriously bad. The quality of the food in my opinion is poor to very poor and this Chinese restaurant ranks amongst the wosrts in the Valley. Again in my opinion and the opinions of some of my friends. I won't beat a dead horse anymore and just say the food is bad and the prices are to expensive. I hate knocking a local business but feel people should no when one is this bad and over priced. I have eaten fantastic Chinese food in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and New York city. Not what I was expecting wow! I mean wow! We had dinner for 4 had no flavour, you would hardly know the difference between one dish or the other, coating on ginger beef was coming off tough and mushy, peppered beef was so thick I thought it was beef stroganoff, chow mien was tough until it sat for 30 minutes them started to softened up...called manager and spoke with him as everyone can have an off day and he said same cook nothing changed for 26 years, he did listen and was very nice.....I was NOT so pleasantly surprised as I have eaten Chinese food all over the world and I can count the places on one hand that were this bad....I would not order from here again and I did not ask for anything or take anything from the restaurant as restituition. Mekong is one of the only Chinese places in Kelowna that has some vegetarian options on the board, which is a huge bonus for me. They've also got a lot of gluten free options as well, which makes them a great choice for a group with different diets. They also deliver which is another plus! But on the negative side, their combos are exclusive and don't include any of these options and some of their food is... mediocre to say the least. The fried rice comes with nothing but peas and onions and the chow mein is very bland. But I loved their crispy spicy tofu, and the veggie dishes I have tried have been good. read more

We went here as we were staying in the hotel beside (the kelowna inn). We had spring rolls to start which were so salty you couldn't actually taste anything else. We then had beef chow mein(soggy and tasteless), ginger beef (tasted like vinegar) and beef and vegetables (it was all broccoli - essentially beef and broccoli). Each plate essentially tasted like the other. This is NOT Szechuan. It tastes like Americanized Chinese food - bland and manufactured. The only reason this is not a 1 star is our server was excellent. read more

I have been eating at Mekong for 26 years & love the food, exceptional service & atmosphere. I would recommend all the Sizzlin Platters, Noodle nest & the Chicken Cashew dish but there are many many more to chose from. Take Out service is very fast & everything arrives piping hot. read more

After being away from Kelowna for several years, we could not wait to return to Mekong for our favorite dishes. We always thought of Mekong as pricey for what you get, so we generally only went when we have a coupon. This time, we ordered the mini spring rolls, ginger chicken and sizzling beef platter (our old favorites). The spring rolls looked different than we remembered but tasted the same. I didn't find them greasy at all, but rather good! The dipping sauce was always my favorite, but this time it did not taste quite the same - still pretty good though. The sizzling platter was OK, but as was posted by others, bland; especially when combined with the rice they give you. The ratio of veggies (broccoli in particular) to meat and sauce was way too high for the $15.95 price tag. The ginger chicken had a good tasting sauce, but was really too stringy and tough to enjoy. The service was very good and friendly, but we agreed that the food was not really worth coming back for. Too bad... we had such good memories! read more
