Found this place on Yelp and took a chance even if they only had 5 reviews since the Hubby and I were craving to eat rice. It is located at a strip mall with lots of parking around. The restaurant itself is reminiscent of a typical Chinese restaurant. They have a huge menu but the have "combo" options that looked really great. It was priced at $12.50 for a choice of either rice or chow mein (with your choice of meat or veg) and 2 sides. I don't have a huge appetite but we ordered two combos. My combo: chow mein with veggies and beef with brocolli + dry garlic ribs. Hubby's combo: fried rice with veggies and ginger beef + lemon chicken. Servings were HUGE! We were both so surprised and overwhelmed. Everything tasted really good and we both enjoyed it a lot. We didn't finish it though -- I barely made a dent since it was a lot. Our leftovers were still good the next morning for breakfast. Service was great too. The ladies were friendly and helpful. If you're in West Kelowna and craving for Chinese food, definitely try this place out. read more

First time trying this place. We phoned in our order and were quoted 15-20 mins. We ordered Combo a,b & e The combos were HUGE! The chowmein was delicious! Ginger beef was fantastic, the sweet & sour pork was crispy and flavourful. Not sure what the hype about this restaurant is. The food really isn't all that great, and the server is a bit of a cow. I try my best to avoid carbs, but every once in awhile I need a Chinese fix. Ordered the combo, and asked for no rice or noodles, just wanted ginger beef and mixed veggies. Apparently it's $3 more for that. Had to re-explain that I'm not making a substitution, I just don't want the rice or noodles. She finally got it. The food came out fast, but man, what a disappointment. The mixed veggies were drenched in salt. So much salt. They were in a weird wattery slop of a mess on my plate. Looking so sad and wilty. I asked if the ginger beef was breaded, and was told it was a light breading. IT WAS NOT A LIGHT BREADING. It was more breading than meat. The sauce itself was so sweet, I thought I was drinking syrup. Absolutely no ginger in the dish, and no heat to it. The only redeeming thing was the fortune cookie and my fortune. We ordered a dinner for one and wonton soup and egg rolls and szchuwan tofu dish. My wonton soup arrived home with all the broth in the bag, the szchuwan dish wasnt spicy like it said and my egg rolls had more batter then filling. My dinner for one was okay but would of rather had chicken chowmein rather then beef but we ordered on line. I will not go back a second time. read more

We have been searching for a good Chinese goto restaurant. We finally found it. We ordered-ginger beef (excellent), almond chicken ( probably the best tempura coating we've ever had) absolutely delicious, special chow mein with shrimp,pork etc. (very tasty) and finally a chicken fried rice (excellent). Overall we were very happy and excited we tried Mei Wei. The food comes with large portions, and tasty delicious flavor, and was delivered hot and fresh. We highly recommend you try any of the dishes. If what we sampled is any indication of taste and quality, you can't go wrong with any choice.keeping the oily factor low or out of stir fry dishes isn't easy, Mei Wei does and excellent job of it! I know, as I have cooked Chinese at home from time to time and balancing the oil used with the correct heat is a challenge......but I'm thinking my cooking days are now over . They do an excellent job balancing flavor, yet not making the dishes oily. *****5 stars isn't high enough for this place!! Try it, you'll love it! The Mei Wei restaurant gave me a horrible dining experience today, which is surprising, since I had previously been to the restaurant on 50 or more occasions over a five year period and I always tip them well. However, I cannot recommend this place to anyone, anymore ! A number of the servers have severe "attitudes" and they need to be either re-trained or fired. When I got to the front counter, this evening, it was jammed with people and I had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. However, no one in the joint acknowledged me, even after 10 minutes of sitting down at the front counter. Finally, I got up and had to tell one of the waitresses that I was waiting for the next available table. She couldn't care less ! A table became available, after 20 minutes, but before I sat down, the table was filthy and there was shards of rice all over the seat and table ! I had to ask the waitress to come back and clean it up. No apologies received. Then, it took almost 55 minutes to get my meal. I asked the same waitress who did not clean my table to ask the cook how long it would be, but she never came back to update me. Then, 10 minutes later, while sipping on my iced tea, I am asked by a female waitress named Alex if everything is okay ? LOL No, everything is NOT okay. I had been waiting 40 minutes at that point. Then, I am told by the waitress that "I was lucky to get a table " Lucky, huh ? That smacks of arrogance, to be honest. She continued to lecture me on the busyness of the restaurant, and never ONCE offered me an apology for her rudeness, or the slowness of service. Finally, I am told by Ms smartypants that "if I didn't like the service, that I could find another restaurant to eat at !" WOW, that is very rude. Anyhow, I had a chat with Vicky, the restaurant manager about the entire ordeal and the rude service and she assured me that she would have a chat with Alex and Tina. But, I highly doubt that any of my complaints will be taken seriously. This is the second time in two months that I was made to wait close to an hour for my meal. Also, the booths are not always clean and there is typically food left over from the previous customers. Just gross ! Meanwhile, while I was waiting for my food, at least 8 takeout customers walked in and out of the restaurant with their food orders. They only had to wait five minutes for their food, MAX, in the majority of the orders. So, you kind of wonder what's going on with the Mei Wei. Is it becoming an "s" hole, take out joint, and are the regular, dine-in customers getting the shaft? Unlike you tourists, I go to this restaurant, year round, and in the winter, when on some nights, I am the only person in the restaurant ! You would think they would show some gratitude ! Maybe they should just shut the effing dining room down and just make it a take out joint. In West Kelowna, there are so many bad restaurants that go under and if this one also goes under, I will not care. Meanwhile, the waitresses have major attitudes and perhaps they need to get fired, before they run the whole place into the ground. Anyhow, not a happy father's day for me, thanks to some smart *ss server. I say that people should avoid this place, until they clean house and management replaces the rude staff with nicer people who do give a damn about a long time customer. To wait an hour and 15 minutes for a meal is CLEARLY UNACCEPTABLE ! read more

Great food, great people. One of the first restaurants we went to when we moved and a instant hit with the whole family.

I ordered 80$ worth of food and when I opened the first couple boxes.... I was very disappointed. I got 6 items and out of those 6, 4 of them were a joke. The chicken in the pineapple chicken was all batter and no chicken. Im not even exaggerating when I say it was 90% batter. The beef and broccoli had literally 3 little pieces of beef in it. Maybe an ounce of beef. The fried rice was undercooked and tasted like it was 2 days old. The chicken chow mein noodles were way over cooked and mushy. When I called .... the girl that answered just put me on the phone with one of the chefs. He was calling me a liar and when I asked what the portion size was for the beef broccoli he couldnt give me an answer. He said "its however much we decide to put in" He was saying because I was a half n uhour late that it was the reason the food wasnt good..... but thats not what my complaint was. He did not offer me anything at all and I honestly did not even eat the other 2 items because I was so upset. I offered to bring all the food back barely touched and he said "ya cmon bring it. Were closed now anyways" He was so unprofessional and rude. I have ordered a few times from here with no issues at all. Now that there are a few problems they never even took care of me and even called me a liar and swore at me. Its very expensive and I would encourage everyone and anyone looking to order from here... to just not. Theyre not a good business and dont even portion their food like every single restaurant does. Trust me im a chef and I know the customer is always right. In this case the customer got ripped off and the chef just laughed and made money off me. Im going to call and order a bunch of food using a fake number and keep wasting their time and money. Seems how they never cared that I got garbage service and under par food. I suggest everyone does this to them cause if they screw up your order they will call you a liar, swear at you and not even care what you have to say. read more
