Ok, this is yet another credit crunch review from me but the Manchurian is fantastic value…read more This place is not haute cuisine, nor is it very posh to look at, or an exponent of more unusual Asian food (for that try Asia Style). But me and my other half are always chuffed with our meals, the service and the price here. There are posher looking Chinese restaurants in town (with ruder staff and poor food) but we keep going back here. They have a very civilised all-you-can-eat option for a tiny £13.95. It's not an "all head for the piggy trough" buffet. You order some starters. You eat them. They come over and ask if you fancy some more starters. If you are so inclined (greedy? moi?) they do not make bloaty-cheek faces and farty noises at you, they smilingly bring you some more. And the food is very very nice indeed. There are Thai options as well as Cantonese Dishes. I recently had satay chicken, sticky prawns, and Thai green curry. All were nicely cooked (soft, just-cooked chicken, and tasty sauces). Other half was delighted with his beef with tomato. Main courses are nicely-sized portions, not too much, and you can add side dishes to your heart's content. And, if you are still hungry, order another main and a pudding. By which point, though, other customers will be making bloaty-cheek faces and farty noises at you. Just don't ever order more food than you will eat. I'm not sure what the punishment is ... obesity possibly.

Ok, I have visited this place many times because it's near my house. And I never regretted it…read more I quite like the environment inside, the atmosphere. And usually I try to come at hours that it's quiet (sometimes during evenings/nights you have to wait). First of all they always bring me prawn chips for free which are my favorite. And once I finished a bunch of prawn chips they brought me more. For free. The 3 course meal is always satiating. The main course comes with additional rice or chips, a good quantity. I have tried various different dishes and I found them always very tasty. The sweet might look little or lame. But the full course always leaves me with a fulfilled stomach. And a promise to hit the gym the next morning :) I love it!

Ah the simply deliciousness of the Amber Chinese. Smell them ribs coming at ya! Noms!…read more Ian and I tend to go here often as I would say Amber is one of my favourite West End Chinese take aways and restaurant. I absolutely love the mandarin sticky ribs, especially the sauce that they use. I love dipping in my prawn crackers and scooping up lashings of the stuff and making them crackers crackle. Munch! I always tend to get a chicken dish, usually sweet and sour or lemon/orange. I love chillaxing on a weekend night, getting a film in and tucking into our Chinesey goodness. The restaurant is pretty good too, I remember when it was the big freeze a couple of years back and I was snowed in the West End and there was no public transport back to the Tyre (Blantyre that is, for the foreigners). We headed in for a lunch dish and it was sooooo cold, as I believe temperatures were about -12 then. We got the lunch time special deal and a wee heater for our booth, to keep us warn. It was so cosy and the service was excellent. I've also been on a busier evening but I do prefer to have the meal at home. Sticky ribs does get a bit messy.

Recently refurbished (I believe), the Amber Restaurant is definitely a delectable gem…read more I've only ever been for the half price specials (between 5-7pm), which was pretty yummy as between four of us we paid under £20 for 2 courses each... score! Has all the usual catonese/chinese foodstuffs - I can recommend their chicken and sweetcorn dish. Fantastic. The fortune cookies will give you a few laughs, especially as they are in German - we spent a considerable amount of time trying to translate them, before we realised the english is on the back, doh!

One of my favourite Chinese restaurant - the staff in Chow can't wait to help you! At times it does…read morefeel extremely cramped as it is a bit tiny, but, on the plus side, when you know it's busy, it must serve good food, which is 100% true. Personally, I enjoy Chinese food, and this place is no exception (the ribs here are delicious), apart from the fact that my wallet isn't empty after I've been (waaay!) (also, it lacks those freaky waving cats, and other chinese-style accessories...eeep). Large portions for small prices, it's definately worth a trip. Sit in. Or take out. Or get a delivery. 'Chow' down...! (That was possibly the worst pun ever. Apologies).

"Sorry." That's it. A measly apology. For spilling a bottle of beer on my new suit. I appreciated…read moreit was an accident, but there was a distinct lack of sincerity with the response, so much so it could almost have been accompanied by a shrug of the shoulders. And it's a great pity, because the food in Chow is superb. Situated in a tiny unit on Byres Road, the Chinese restaurant makes use of every inch of space to cram in as many people as possible, both on the bottom floor and the small mezzanine level. The reasonably priced menu is extensive but I'm afraid my stubbornness when it comes to the ordering of Chinese foods means I'm only in a position to recommend my old faithfuls, hot and sour soup and chicken chow mein, both of which are excellent in here. In actual fact, this could almost have been a five star review but there's no getting away from the abruptness of some staff members, which I find to be an all too common occurrence. I really shouldn't come back, but unfortunately the food is just too damn good.
