This is my favorite part--there's no pretense at the Academy. When you ask questions, you get real answers. The school itself is also in a great spot, right off two main highways and within walking distance to several lunch spots (all of which are known to look out for new massage students, especially Grumpy's next door.) And I always felt comfortable inviting friends and family to come in for a massage because the facility here is so professional, with individual rooms for clinic massages rather than curtained areas in a larger, more public atmosphere. Clinics feel like real-world practice from the first day, and this helped instill me with the confidence I sorely needed before breaking out into the massage therapy world. Every session is unique to where I am at in my physical, emotional, energetic, and spiritual bodies. She always seems to know what is wrong before I open my mouth, but she always holds space for me within her loving glow. Emily has an incredible way of making you feel instantly comfortable, even the most advanced of wall builders, like myself. I have broken down into tears before getting on the table, had massive physical releases, and healed in ways I thought weren't possible. She has guided me through deep emotional trauma as well as physical trauma (I had abdominal surgery to remove 15 tumors in 2016). I will say it's not all glitter and romance, there are often hard lessons to be learned and dealt with, and they can be difficult (but always necessary) and she guides you through it with light and love. I could go on and on, but really my words will mean nothing. What Emily offers is intuitive and experiential. Enter Body Kneads. I booked a 60-minute massage (and a 30-minute body scrub because why the heck not) and headed over. Body Kneads is tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood in Gilbertsville (you'd never find it without Yelp or word-of-mouth), and the owners have done an amazing job with the space. There's ample off-street parking (bonus) and an easy, ADA-accessible entry. There are multiple treatment rooms (at least two of which are equipped to do couples' massages), and the whole vibe of the place is zen-like and calming. I was placed into the care of Chad, who asked me about my areas of concern, the kind of pressure I like (in this case, I was after something pretty "kneady"), and he got to work. Getting the knots out of my shoulders wasn't easy but he did it. At the end of my 90 minutes, I felt better than I had in weeks. Am I still stressed? YES (life is just like that sometimes). But Chad and Body Kneads helped work out the physical manifestations of that stress, and I couldn't be more grateful for that. TL; DR the massage was fantastic, the spa is lovely, and it all comes at a pretty unbelievable price. Going to make this a regular thing.
