So we usually love megs but now that we have picky toddlers we will probably skip it. My kids don't eat many things but love a bun with cheese melted (a burgerless-burger pretty much) and that's what we ordered for them. Still wanted to pay for the burger just to have it on the side for us. Waitress offered to put in a "grilled cheese on a bun" which sounded fine to me. When it came out she told us the chef did it this one time but never again. It felt like being scolded and it rubbed us the wrong way. It also felt a bit shamey honestly. I didn't know melting cheese on a bun was such a complicated order. Life with toddlers is hard enough and we were excited to bring them to one of our favorites but we are disappointed and won't be back anytime soon. read more

The overall experience at Meg's Grill was simply awful. My friends and I came here in the morning for breakfast and the place was packed, which is understandable considering it was the day after July 4th. We were told the wait was going to be 30 minutes so we stuck around outside. We went to ask the status of our table after 35 minutes had passed and were rudely told that there were still 8 TABLES THAT HADN'T BEEN SEATED BEFORE US! Don't tell customers 30 minutes if the actual wait is about an hour.... simple math. The table turnover situation was disastrous because the table they seated us at had been open for 20 minutes before we sat down. The food was fine, but the service was awful. I had to personally go to the waitress stand to refill the waters at our table because no one checked on us. The worst part about this endeavor was the checkout. We were rudely told that they don't split checks and that the maximum number of cards they accept for each table is 3... First of all, if you don't split checks why do you have a credit card max? Second of all, why just 3 credit cards??? Is four too many to handle and is two just too easy? The person checking us out told us that we would've known this if we had just read the signs posted on every table.... RUDE! Lastly, all of the signs posted on the tables, windows, and even the bathroom just gave us headaches. They thought they were being funny, but they were just simply annoying to look at. Absolutely the best breakfast & lunch for miles around, Meg's is a staple of Lavallette and her crew works seamlessly together day-in, day-out. I have been to few restaurants that can so well curate such an authentic home-style atmosphere while keeping the food and service to such a consistently high standard. If you want a challenge try "Big Al's Big A** Breakfast"! Meg herself always goes out of her way to check in with her to customers on lunch break as well. Lavallette lifeguards, policemen, and town workers rely on Megs on a daily basis which is what makes it such a revered local establishment and a true gem for any Lavallette resident. Meg's is a reliable spot for breakfast, brunch or lunch in Lavallette. In fact, it's one of the only sit down options and they have take out as well. It's very family and baby friendly (which I bemoaned in my previous review- how things change!) They have a thorough but not overwhelming menu with some specials. For breakfast I usually opt for the "Something in your teeth" broccoli omelette and for lunches it's the "Aloha salad" with chicken (salad topped with fruit). Cute place. Servers were quite friendly and pleasant. Unfortunately, took over 30 to 40 minutes to get our food after we ordered. Once food finally came, my eggs and potatoes were cold. Pretty sure the bacon was deep-fried, since it was way over cooked. Disappointed in the home fries. Instead of fresh potatoes cut up on a grill. they were frozen deep-fried little potato nuggets. Not hard to cut up a potato on a grill nor is it hard to pre-cook bacon on a grill. Little extra time would go a long way. These short cuts take so much away from a meal. My Sister's omelet order was wrong. They took it back and after 15 minutes still didn't replace it. By that time, the rest of us were finished eating and now pressed for time. When we asked for the omelet to be taken off of the bill, the waitress said they were already making it. The waitress apologized and said she would take it off the bill and give it to us to go. Two minutes later the owner came over and asked if we wanted her to "throw it out" or give it to us to go. We were unsure why the owner approached us seemingly annoyed asking the same question. Huge fan of Megs. Took over for some spots that were converted to condos in town years ago and has kept the momentum going. Everything is good however I am very partial to those few options they have that give you a little taste of everything. Came to Meg's Grill while on vacation with our family. We had such a great experience. The food was out of this world! My eggs were cooked to perfection with an even amount of fresh veggies and extra cheese (just like I ordered ) with the most amazing home fries I have ever had! My kids ordered 2 large stacks of their chocolate pancakes and they kept raving so much I had to try a piece and they really were good! The coffee was amazing and not to mention the staff. The staff was super warm and friendly and interacted with our 3 year old and took her order they have old school water games to entertain the smaller kids which I think is such another thing that makes this place so wonderful. After Today's Visit This Place Could Be Called Karen's - Food was great, it's what has kept me coming back.Not sure what was going on today but the owner was wrapped really tight, just not friendly at all, more curt and snippy. Who wants to be spoken to like that? Could be any number of things that we will never know about, I won't speculate, but regardless of what's going on for the owner of any business, being on the receiving end of the kind of attitude I was today makes me not want to go back. Her staff was pleasant and seemed to have had a very good grip on knowing how to mange the flow of things. Even when not interacting with Meg, her rigidity and movement around the dining tables and reception podium gave off a bad heavy energy vibe. Based upon the other reviews I've read, I'm sure she cares a lot about her business and her customers and maybe she was having a bad day, but it's not the first time I've experienced/witnessed this. My favorite brunch spot at the shore! Have not had a single bad experience here. Like most typical brunch spots, it's gets super busy weekend mornings so just be prepared to wait as they do not take reservations as far as I know. There usually are a few bar seats open and they have Some outdoor seating available, most with umbrellas, so even in the summer heat, it's doable. Service is so friendly and so quick! Not that they rush you or anything, but I'm always surprised how quick the orders come out. Breakfast served all day and lunch is served beginning at 11am. We have been coming to Meg's for years and I'm kind of embarrassed we have not left a review before. I actually thought it was going to be a follow up to a review from five or six years ago. Meg's has the best breakfast and lunch on the Barrier Island by far. Everything is always fresh and cooked to order. It is REALLY hard to find a salad with fresh ingredients, chicken that has been cooked freshly the day you order it. We have enjoyed this place for the past 8 years. Our kids now go there when they are home and we go all winter as well. Just wanted to say we had pick up a couple times over the past month and everything was safe, sanitized and social distanced. This place deserves five stars all the way! Excellent food, great prices, and great service. I went here for breakfast with six people and we ordered one meal to go. When we got there it was packed and they told us it would be a thirty minute wait. We almost didn't stay but after being there for 15 minutes are table was ready. The food didn't come out very fast but it didn't take a while either. The waiters were very helpful and answered all our questions. I ordered the short stack of buttermilk pancakes with an addition of fruit. It came with two pancakes and many bananas and strawberries. It was very good and filling. We had breakfast at Meg's this morning while we're here on vacation. I'm so glad we found this place, because it's fantastic! The decor is eclectic and funky but warm and inviting. The staff are friendly and happy. God vibes all around. Most importantly the food is delicious! I ordered the Right Break breakfast sandwich on a wrap with cheddar and the egg overeasy. It was the BEST breakfast sandwich I've ever had! (And I've had my share). They put home fries in it!!! And the home fries are perfect - crispy and flavorful. YUM. My husband got the Porkey's nightmare omelet and rye toast and loved it. He said the rye toast was REAL rye, whatever that means. And he's native to the shore so of course enjoyed the pork roll in the omelet. We will definitely come back every year! read more

If you live or are staying locally, this is one of the better breakfast/brunch locations in the area. The omelette was very thin with hardly any filling and barely any cheese. The meat inside was finely chopped in tiny little bits. I also asked for american cheese and I got cheddar instead. Hashbrown potatoes are generic frozen store bought as I saw the cook empty the bag in the fryer. Blueberry pancakes were kind of rubbery. I would never come back here again.
