I just found what looked like a tick or some kind of bug inside a bell pepper I bought at MegaMart. I'm honestly disgusted -- it even had mold hiding inside while looking perfectly "fresh" on the outside. How can a store allow this? This is beyond unsafe and absolutely unacceptable. This is a very large Latin grocery store. Everything is super fresh and prices aren't bad. Their variety of items is tremendous. eggs are too high, but most items are very reasonably priced. And the staff is absolutely wonderful. read more

I was judged for over 15, don't miss it. I didn't know who's hiring, but between the first checkout where a man literally left his purchase after he was called to buy and never came back ( they cashier never said anything, he just waited, so l got out of his line) and the and the next cashier who tried to Rob me by marking several individual items... Was looking to buy some fresh chorizio and decided to stop in. They have an excellent fresh fruit & vegetable selection. Many of your favorite hispanic and latino brands of dry goods. I especially like their selection of fresh fish which they will clean for you at no extra charge. They had about a half dozen differents types of chorizo, Salvadorean, Argentenian & Mexican. Chicken, pork, hot and not so hot. Wow, talk about selection! When you are exhausted from shopping and need to eat they have freshly prepared food. They have a 'Hot Food' section where you can order and sit down and eat. Tacos, totrlillas and more. read more

So I love this store because it has all the latino food that I need in my life. They have fruits and veggies here that you don't see in regular grocery stores like mamones, tamarindo, guisquil, etc. They have the popular hispanic cheeses like cuajada and queso fresco. They also have a bakery section where they sell fresh made pan dulce and 3 leches cake. Definitely my go-to place when I'm gonna have a carne asada (latino bbq). I always get my fajita meat from the butcher section in the store. Definitely the best out there but make sure you ask for the #1. It's more expensive but a better quality meat. The store itself is pretty big. They have a huge section for the produce and always keep everything well stocked. I honestly feel like the prices of the fruits and veggies are the cheapest around. With that being said, many things like mayonnaise, cereal, eggs, etc. are priced a lot higher here than say your local Giant. One of the reasons I'm not giving them 5 stars is the issue with not everything having a price ticket (mostly kitchenware items). When you get something without a price and go to check out, the cashiers don't double check or even look in their system for a price, they just punch in whatever price they think it is. I've had that happen a couple of times and have left empty handed because I refused to pay for something at a higher price when a couple days before I bought the same exact thing for less. It just depends on who you get at the register and it shouldn't be like that. They should have a set price and not this guessing system they are using. This is a great Hispanic supermarket in Manassas. You can find a variety of groceries, meats, produce, etc. They have a nice selection of Hispanic and American items. They also offer a variety of services in kiosks. I went for specialty ingredients that my local grocery store did not have. Great service! read more

Amazing Place This place has been having an identity crisis, but I think it's settle down now. When we first moved to the area 9 years ago, this was a Shoppers. Then it changed to a Primero Mercado. Then it changed to something else. It went through maybe half a dozen changes. We were hoping that they wouldn't give up. It's so close to home. Now it's a Megamart, and I think it's going to last. It seems to be very popular. On Saturday afternoon this place is just so packed with people. Sometimes it's hard to maneuver a shopping cart through there with so many people. So we're happy that the place is successful now. It seems to target the Latino community. It has a lot of Latin American foods. They have Coke imported from Mexico (made with sugar, not corn syrup, so it is much, much better). In the produce area they have all kinds of stuff from cactus to lychees to those little baby bananas etc. etc. etc. It's also more than JUST a supermarket. They have a butcher shop where one can buy fresh chorizo or pork chops or various cuts of meat. They have a place where you can buy fresh, hand made tortillas (corn or flour). They have a place that sells cell phones, a place that sells clothing, a place where you can wire money to other countries, I even think they sell mattresses. They have a warm foods bar that's almost like a buffet selling it by the pound. They have fresh fish and live crabs in season. They also have a place where you can get atol de elote. This is somewhere in between a warm corn flavored milk shake and thin corn flavored pudding, and it has little chunks of corn in there. It might not sound very appetizing. It didn't to me. I only tried it because someone bought it for me. No one ever buys me anything so I was so honored that those people got that for me that I tried it, and let me tell you it is scrump-silly-icious. This place also has something that no other place has. They sell 12 pack 12 oz cans of Guarana Antarctica. Guarana is a berry that grows in South America. Guarana Antarctica is a soda made with the berry. It has a very distinct taste. The berry is also a natural energy supplement. A 12 oz can is like a natural Red Bull. It's also very tasty. It's not bottled in the U.S. It has to be imported from Brazil, and this is the only place that sells it. At the cash registers they always have drop dead gorgeous make-you-want-to-get-on-your-knees-and-thank-God-you're-a-man beautiful Latinas. Fantastic place for Latino groceries. Produce was good quality but the prices were a littler higher than Lotte Plaza where I normally shop. Still, the variety and quality of both produce, dairy, and non perishable items was higher than most Latino grocery stores I've visited in the past. Don't expect anyone to speak English. I will certainly be back for the necessary authentic items I require for my next Mexican dinner night. Recommended. read more

The butchers aren't friendly at all. I went to buy some "picahna" (top sirloin cap, coulette steak), and they said they didn't have it. That's a big lie, I used to go and buy almost every week. So I sent my friend 30 minutes later to buy it, and guess what, now they had it. I think they were to lazy to go and get it wherever they had it, or they just didn't want to cut it. I'm definitely not buying more meat over there. Sometimes there's a strong bad smell in that section. read more

This Megamart is one of seven in the MD and VA metro area. I have only been to a few but this is one of the larger ones or maybe it just seems that way because they cram so much stuff into it. As another reviewer mentioned there is not much room in the aisles, especially around the restaurant area and the butcher section. The fresh fruit and vegetables are very cheap compared to the other local markets. They also have some exotic fruits and vegetables that you won't find at the American markets. The butcher area also has great prices. One of our favorites is the already marinated meat for carne asada. Just past the butcher section is a refrigerated dairy case with all kinds of fresh cheeses and creams. The only downsides for me is they do not sell alcohol. I think they are missing out on a huge opportunity to sell international (or at least Central American) varieties of beer. They also have very few frozen items. We typically shop here for just a few latino specific items. The prices on other items besides fruit and the butcher shop tend to be a little high. It is a fun experience if you have not been to this kind of market before. The announcer at the front of the store going over daily specials and promotions makes it sound like an auction house.It is usually very crowded, especially in the evenings and on the weekends. Overall, a place to get some hard to find or unusual items and worth a trip into another culture every once in while. We will definitely return. read more
