Took my son to a Giant's game in San Francisco (from Sacramento) on a Sunday and paid a combined fare of $72 for two round trip tickets. In both directions, we arrived late (1.25 hours to SF, 1.50 hours returning to Sacramento). Neither of these arrivals were the fault of traffic. Both were a result of a late bus and a driver that checked bags with no sense of urgency after arriving late for pick up. Basic planning, logistics, attitude, and urgency (within safe parameters, of course) and Megabus could be a first class transportation outfit. I hope this review helps not only potential customers, but Megabus as well. read more

This company is ridiculous. I don't know how a transportation company doesn't know where their buses are. I waited for more than an hour at sac and ended up leaving cause I was waiting on my ass for too long. This company should have a better system for communication and coordination. The only pro is the operators, they were friendly but also clueless to what exactly was going on. Don't make your plans on this. read more

Y'all expectations are too high. As low as $3 round trip to SF. Most of the time $5-$15. Show me another option that comes close. Until then, put away the one, two, and three star reviews. read more

I have not experienced actually riding mega bus, but if u have a bank account their fair wirh prices.

One star because of a glitch in their payment system I purchased two tickets and called within minutes to get it fixed and the customer service was lethargic and absolutely rude while not even looking into my ticket purchase I do not recommend this bus to anyone and on top of that my sister (who rode this bus from Los Angeles to Oakland) said that her bus broke down and they were in the side of the ride for 3 hours smh MEGA BUS IS TRASH read more

They will leave without you. I've taken the mega bus many times and I've watched them leave early and leave people. Don't recommend unless you get there almost 25 minutes early, but then you're waiting in a sketchy area. read more

I have taken the bus twice from Sac to SF. The first time it was an hour late picking us up. The second time it was 1.5 hours late. I understand that snow in the Sierra may make it late, but they need to change the stated pickup time if it is always going to be an hour late. I suggest taking the train instead. read more

This is the way to go!!!! Sacramento to San Francisco $120 round trip for SIX of us! Comfy seats, plugs to charge electronics, great drivers and they Zoom! We arrived home 20 minutes early. I don't drive, it's a hassle when traveling especially considering parking, we will definitely use Megabus again and again. read more

What is cheap worth to you? After spending $40 for 2 rt tickets to SF from Sac I discovered that there was no safe parking for leaving a car overnight. The closest overnight parking is at the Amtrak station 21 minutes away by light rail. I wasn't willing to go to the Amtrak station. We drove into SF. Megabus doesn't give refunds so I'm out the $40. Silly me. I thought for sure that there would be nearby overnight parking for people going into SF. Sure. If you don't own a car and can get to the bus station it's cheap. But this cheap wasn't worth it to me. read more

Despite a few obnoxious passengers, this was by far the EASIEST & CHEAPEST way to get from Sacramento to SF. Note: 1 ticket is good for 1 bag. If you're traveling alone with 3 bags, then you'd have to buy a total of 3 tickets. Buy online for better prices! 3:00pm departure bus took only 1 hr & 35 minutes! There are 3 buses daily, so if one of their times works for you, definitely book Megabus! read more

We enjoyed our Saturday 3pm trip. I brought my 92 yr old mom with me to Sfo, we sat at the front. The driver was very professional, helpful and friendly. Kudos to Mega bus driver Sacto-San Francisco route. Thank you! read more

Megabus to the City (SF) is the way to go! No driving stress, comfy and clean. Bus driver is personable and folks on board are very willing to strike up a conversation. It's two levels, bathroom is on the first so, if you aren't keen on walking down/up stairs while moving, sit on the first level. Enjoy a full day in the City and nap on the way home...try it once and you won't be disappointed! read more

Took the bus from SAC to SF, and back. I booked last minute for both rides and it wasn't a problem, it was really easy to get on and off. A bit more room in there than in an airplane so I'm not complaining. Going to SF, I sat in the upper deck which had a lot of natural sunlight as the entire roof was glass, but it felt that the movement was stronger up there. On the way back I reserved a table which was really comfortable and great for being productive. For the small price and not having to drive yourself, I'd say it was totally worth it read more

Went to Reno from Sacramento on the Megabus, it costed us $38 PER COUPLE ROUNDTRIP. The ride took about two hours and fifteen minutes. The bus has WI-FI and power outlets. The bus has two levels, we sat on the top. The driver was very good. We slept most of the way. We were dropped off at Silver Legacy (I got a room for one night on Hotwire for $50), then continues to John Ascuaga's Casino in Sparks. I suggest you bring some headphones, it does get loud sometimes. Overall it was a great trip. read more

I absolutely luv the idea. I enjoyed the ride and the convenience is what amazes me the most. I'm giving this company 1-Star, because they have made FOUR MISTAKES FROM THE RESERVATIONS department -- too many mistakes and baiting and switching regarding fees...Even though, they repeatedly made the error they would not reduce my fee!!...unacceptable to make a mistake almost every time I made a reservation . Leaving 50 minutes late. WiFi not working. No outlets. Big, big disappointment.

3rd weekend in a row we have been waiting in Sacramento for a 6:15pm trip to San Francisco...each time we waited for 1 hour 30 minutes before the bus finally arrived. Never again. even if it's dirt cheap, it's not worth not having inconsistent service. I recommend everyone go to Amtrak. $27 each way and ALWAYS consistent, and more departure times. read more

I bought a ticket for my mom in law from Sacramento to San Francisco at 6am. I cannot believe that crazy driver didn't let her in. That crappy driver said she had an invalid reservation number. What a joke. He just drove the stupid bus away and leave my in law there. How can megabus hire someone who has problem to read and temper problem? How can he yell at an old lady??? It is ridiculous!!!!! I call megabus after I picked my in law up from the station, and confirm the reservation number is correct. I am so upset and ended up driving her to bay area by myself, then drive to Sacramento to work. read more

If I could give this company negative stars I would. The first time I took the megabus I should have learned my lesson. The second time i used it, I was in a hurry to get back to San Francisco, so I didn't have many options. The drivers and staff seem like they are fresh out of prison, equipped with neck tattoos and horrible slang. I thought I might actually be shanked by someone. Aside from the bad attitude from the staff, the busses are NEVER ON TIME. I waited outside in the cold for over an hour and a half because the bus was late with no apologies or explanation. Do not try to get your money back because they have no mercy or common sense. Moral of my story is "you get what you pay for". Crappy service with a side of ghetto. read more

1st of all, everyone complaining about parking should have done their research. It isn't megabus that provides parking. You should have looked up parking for Sac RT since the stop is at the light rail station. And there is free parking at the watt/manlove or sunrise station. Ok so there were 5 of us going to reno from Sac for new years. Leaving nye coming home nyd. We got to our stop 8 minutes before departure time and the driver scolded us for not being there 15 min early. What was the point of that? We were there early and still got on the bus and sat there for 5 minutes before leaving. Then once we left he proceeded to bitch on the intercom everything that was in the video. Dude needed a snickers. The ride was fine, I mean, the price to not have to drive and be dropped off right next to silver legacy. It was worth it. The ride home. We were at the stop 25 min early. Got lined up on the curb, there were only about 8 people there at that time. About 15 min till, the megabus guy yells at us, saying we are lined up at the wrong end. There were no markings of where to line up so we didn't know. The way he approached us was rude as hell. So we go to the end of the line but by that time there were hella people there. We had some friends drive up to meet us, so we had no bags as they took our bags so we didn't have to carry them. We went to ask if we could just get on the bus since it was like 20 degrees and we didn't have any bags for them to check. The driver we asked was really nice and kinda flirty, then another guy butted in and was really rude, saying no and that we had to wait in line with everyone. I snapped back this time, telling him to relax it was just a question. He was stuck a jerk!! The driver was funny and we actually got back in town 20 minutes early. 3 stars, customer service is key to any business!! The ride was worth the price, but I'd happily pay double, if it ensured that the people id interact with from the company were friendly! read more

I LOVE Megabus! What else can I say? The bus offer FREE WiFi AND restroom! Although the seats are not very comfortable, but it is ok enough for a 4-6 hour trip. Just keep that in mind that the air-conditioning can be a little bit much. So, make sure you bring a jacket or blanket (if necessary). My husband purchased a ticket for this morning at 6 a.m. from Sacramento to San Francisco. We arrived there at 5:38 a.m. and waited until 6:30 a.m. the bus never showed up. I called the customer service twice. The first time she was reading some script saying while there's reasons why it could be late it could be traffic yada yada yada. I proceeded to tell her there's no traffic here at 6 a.m. on a Sunday morning . The second call I made I spoke with the supervisor and she told me that the bus had arrived at 5:43 am which was a lie because we were there since 5:38 am and no bus arrived. Up to this point I was very satisfied with Megabus but now I'm not even going to use them because I was very upset about the whole situation and the supervisor. told me that I would have to purchase another ticket and she proceeded to tell me that the bus driver did arrive and then he left t 5:43 am and I was very upset and she hung up on me. I will never use Megabus again. Worst customer service ever. You can't even understand what the agents are saying that's all I have to say. They just don't care about the customer. read more

Their bus was more than an hour late, causing me to miss and cancel my appointment. I called Megabus for a refund because they did not provide the service that they promised, and I was told to email them. I didn't get a response for five days and then I was told that I would only be credited for 25%. However, this credit is only available in the form of a code that has no cash value and can only be used on another Megabus trip. Additionally, the "25%" was only off the departure trip when I no longer needed either trip because of my missed appointment, so of the $49 I spent, they thought that a $7.25 Megabus code was fair compensation. I emailed them again about this discrepancy and after having to wait another five days, they avoided the question and reverted to their copy/paste guidelines: "We regret that we cannot issue a refund instead of a 25% redemption code based on our internal compensation policy. Your redemption code is valid for one year from the date of issue, and may be used toward the purchase of another megabus reservation. Any unused portion will be forfeited." To anyone else who may take Megabus, I recommend either scheduling your trip two hours early to accommodate for Megabus's tardiness (and then having to wait two hours at your destination if they actually can get there on time), or gambling on whether or not the specific bus you need cares enough to provide the service they're advertising. Personally, I'll never depend on Megabus again. read more

Megabus is affordable, the ride between Sacramento and Reno smooth and quick (compared to other carriers). If there was one drawback it is the lack of space between seats, and if you reserve a table seat, you are likely to find someone sitting in your spot when you arrive. read more

First off, I want to say that the convenience that MegaBus provides is fantastic. I love being able to go back to the Bay Area for a great deal, and the bus is usually pretty clean, and the seats are relatively comfortable- bring your own neck pillow. DISCLAIMER: PLEASE read to the end, I do explain my POV, I am not just raging with this review, though I am sure you will agree I have good reason to. However. That being said, they need to work on their customer service. The last two times I went on MB was at the Sacramento station, both on days over 90 degrees, and both on days when a porter by the name of Keith was there. The first experience I had with Kieth, the other passengers and I had moved our line from the unofficial spot that was in the middle of blazing heat ten feet down the street to where there was shade from the trees- it was 93 DEGREES F. Kieth comes along on his bike, which he swings around a tree, and right in front of the face of another passenger who was sitting down looking at his phone, and it physically startled the passenger. Kieth ended up forcing said passenger out the spot where he was sitting, just so he could hook up his bike to said tree where said passenger was sitting. First huge No-No. He then proceeds to order us to move the line back to where we all traditionally line up- but right back into the glare of 93 DEGREES F. We all move reluctantly. Second huge No-No. We were all having a tough time, especially an elderly woman in front of me. I left my stuff to save my spot and went to stand in the shade, and where "friendly" Kieth talking to another customer about something. He turns to me- "Excuse me, but you are going to have to get back into the line, or go to the back of the line." "I'm standing in the shade-" I try to say. "You're going to have to get back in line, or move to the back of the line." (By this time it was quite lengthy, and I had arrived an hour early to get a good spot.) I stared at him for a full five seconds, and then spoke slowly, "I'm standing in the shade-" "You're not getting on the bus then." EXCUSE ME?! First of all, who is he to order us around in 93 DEGREE HEAT, and then how does he get off telling me I can't get on the bus?! I've already paid for my ticket, thank you very much! I promptly turned to the passenger he was talking to, exclaimed, "What an Ass!!!" and remained in the shade for a bit longer. When I returned to the line, he started hassling another passenger about the bags that they had brought with them, the same elderly woman I mentioned before, and her granddaughter. They were both returning to Germany, and were taking the bus into San Francisco to stay until their flight. They had brought another bag with them, standard allowance for any airline, but for MB, you can only bring one luggage and one carry-on. Kieth, oh so friendly Kieth, was refusing to allow them to bring this extra bag on the bus, and when they asked him for a solution, his reply was, "You're going to have to figure that out yourself." It was lucky I only had a carry-on, and at this point I stepped in and said I could claim their extra luggage as mine. The rest of that trip was uneventful, but this man has weak customer service, and was generally on an extreme Power-Trip, ordering around a group of PAYING CUSTOMERS. That was my first experience with Kieth, and I made sure to get his name so I would remember him. The next time I saw him, I was again an hour early, and he again tried to get us to move out of the shade and into the heat, and that day it was over 100 DEGREES- I blatantly refused. It was at this time that he explained that he had to keep the line at a certain place (in the unofficial spot of Blazing Hot Sun) for when the bus arrived. So, when it was closer to the time of arrival, we agreed to go back to the official spot. Better customer service admittedly, but that's how it should be every time, and if that's his orders to keep us in line WHEN THE BUS ARRIVES, then the porter position in general has no power over what the customers do in line or around the line, UNTIL THE BUS ARRIVES. Coincidentally, however, The MB was also an hour late that day, and Kieth had no choice but to "let the line roam free to wherever the shade was." Disappointed. That's the only word I can use to describe my experience with Kieth. MegaBus is such a great idea, company, premise, you name it- but they have a lot to work on internally. Kieth I admit is an exception, and he is a terrible one, and a terrible representative of MegaBus. MegaBus would better themselves EXPONENTIALLY if they took time to properly train their employees in customer service skills, and have an extra talk with employees like Kieth. read more

Regarding Megabus, two words: never again. This company is a disaster. I bought a round trip ticket from Sacramento to Reno on Saturday April 23, 2016. It was scheduled to leave Sacramento at 11:10 in the morning and arrive at 1:50 in Reno, and then to depart Reno at 3:30 and arrive at 6:15 in Sacramento. This trip was a disaster. At about 12:44 p.m. close to Cisco Grove, exit 165 off of eastbound I-80, we had a flat tire. From the sound one could immediately tell it was trouble. It sounded like the tire got shredded. The driver is a white guy named James with long hair and a pony tail. As he pulled the bus off the highway and onto the side of the road he said something like, "We will be back on the road in a few minutes." By the time the ride was over nobody on the bus believed James any more. He had lied to us so many times. It ended up being a 3 hour and 22 minute delay. Megabus ruined everybody's plans. Why doesn't Megabus maintain their buses? Don't they know how to check the condition of every tire on the bus? Why don't they replace their tires when they start to wear and before they are ready to get shredded? Megabus is totally uncomfortable. Unless you are about 5'5" you cannot stand up straight on the downstairs level, the upstairs level, or in the restroom. You have to walk hunched over and there are low flying supports on the ceiling upstairs to bang your head on if you are over 6' tall. Calling Megabus customer service was a disaster. I called 5 times and reached 5 different people. I was asking one simple basic question: what time is the return bus tonight from Reno to Sacramento? Only one person out of the 5 even understood the question. One of them, a woman whose name I forgot, told me, "There is a 90 to 120 minute delay on that bus ride." You idiot! I told her again, as I had already told her, that that bus had already arrived in Reno. She had not paid ANY attention to my question - either that or she is a complete idiot. The one guy who understood my question looked up on the schedule, said there was no supervisor available to talk to, and said that Megabus had not scheduled a return bus home. I asked Megabus via email and via their customer service page the same question. I asked them to send the information (departure time from Reno tonight) to me by email and by text. They did not send anything. That was the bottom line: even though they had a bus in Reno and had sold tickets for a return ride from Reno to Sacramento, Megabus simply did not send a bus back from Reno to Sacramento. They just stranded all of us in Reno and said tough s***. Apparently Megabus thinks we were just supposed to deal with it and suck it up (pay for a last minute hotel room in Reno). Megabus emailed me with a "redemption code", foolishly assuming that I would ever want to ride on their bus again. I wrote back and said I am not interested in your redemption code, send me a full refund for the price of the trip which was $32.50. I did not even mention the $30 I had to spend taking Greyhound to get home last night because Megabus stranded us in Reno or the $30 I had to spend on a taxi from the Greyhound station to where I had gotten on Megabus. They wrote back and said, "We apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, we're unable to further assist you." Baloney. They were not unable to assist. They refused to assist. They refused to make good on their lack of service and their 200 minute delay (cold bus, very loud loud speakers, constant lies by the driver, etc.) Unfortunately in their "terms and conditions" there is binding arbitration. You cannot sue Megabus in small claims court or any other court. You have to use an arbitrator. It says, "Each party shall pay its pro-rata share of JAMS/ENDISPUTE's filing fees (currently $400 per party) at the commencement of the arbitration. All costs incurred in arbitrating a dispute, including filing fees, shall be shared in proportion to the parties' respective amounts of liability as determined by the arbitrator." Fortunately Greyhound has a comfortable bus home and I got home last night. I was able to stand up on the bus, it was not crowded, we did not have a flat tire or any other delay, the driver was not a jackass, and I did not have to put up with any lies etc. from the company. The contrast was really very clear, between Megabus and Greyhound. I will never ride Megabus again. read more

We took Megabus to SF from Sacramento for a business trip. The bus left promptly at 6AM and arrived in SF at 7:40AM. Inexpensive, great way to travel. My only concern is that the driver spoke to guests in a very demeaning manner, telling people not to pee on the floor or seat and calling a man out over the loudspeaker who was sitting across two seats. read more

Megabus is a HUGE disappointment! They have a NO REFUND policy that is an incredible business practice, disadvantaging customers who - thru no fault of their own - have to change their travel plans. I will never do business w/ Megabus and encourage others to steer clear if there is any chance their plans might change. In my case, I reserved a round trip from Sacramento to SF and back to attend an important late afternoon meeting in the city and not have to fight the commuter traffic all the way home. Minutes after I made the reservation, the meeting was cancelled -- the convener was sick and unable to either have the meeting or reschedule it. Megabus refused to refund my money because they do not have a cancellation policy; they told me I could reschedule -- and pay a $14 fee for the rescheduling --, but could not cancel. You don't know when your reason for going to SF will be rescheduled? Too bad. They suggest you transfer the reservation to a date in the future and then change it again (for another $14 fee I presume) when you get the real information and that is the only option. Again I say, this is a terrible business practice. The no cancellation / no flexibility policy is a stupid way to try to win and keep customers. They've lost me for sure and everyone I know to whom I will absolutely say "Don't use Megabus - they're after your money and don't care a whit about anything else." read more

I had the WORST experience using Megabus this past weekend, on 9/10 from Sacramento to SF and then back to Sacramento from SF in the same day. Our bus was supposed to depart Sacramento by 9:30 AM. The bus did not show up until 11AM, with no notice that it would be 1 1/2 hours late and customer service had no idea where the bus was. No one sent a dispatch message to the bagger on duty and calling customer service was certainly no help. All we were told to do by customer service was to keep waiting in line and check our emails - still no emails. On the way back from SF, I booked the 9PM bus, the SAME situation happened, except this time everyone is waiting at night, on the side of the street, and in the cold. How is there no previous communication as to where buses will be or how late they will be. This is such a waste of time, not to mention pretty dangerous to just have a group of people waiting outside. At this point, I ask that I receive a discount on my reservations due to the lack of reliability. Please let me know who I can speak to. read more

This is the second day in a row mega bus had made me late for work. I commute to SF from Sacramento, and thought I'd try mega bus. I love the convenience, but mega bus is horrible at being on time. Do they not keep in mind the commuters? I mean, come on...people have jobs. Be on time!!!! Not to mention, yesterday coming home from the city, I was 5 minutes early for the bus, and the bus was actually on time...shocker. The driver scolded me on not being 15 minutes early!!!! Are you kidding? ?? I'll try one more week of commuting via mega bus, but if they continue to be unprofessional, forget it. I'd rather drive. read more

Registered here for this review. Like somebody said, megabus is ok until its not. I've been using Sac-SF line once in a while. So, if you gotta be in the city on time- not very reliable option. read more

I signed up to write this review fyi. Trip: Sacramento-Reno Driver (on the return): William May 18-19th I had never taken Megabus before. WORTH EVERY PENNY. We reserved seats (first trip, top level driver side, second trip, front balcony seats. If you are looking for an awesome but freaky surreal view of the drive from Sac-Reno, front and center is your spot and well worth the extra $5. It is beautiful. The balcony seats are great too, with a little table thing to use and a medium drink sized cup holder. The cup holder was worth the money for me because it was a leisure trip. But if you just want a quiet trip with a decent view, top level anywhere is fine. I don't have experience with the bottom level. It was a smooth, comfortable ride. Both ends of the journey we left promptly at the specified time and we arrived a good 30 minutes early both legs. I prefer that they overestimate than underestimate. William. I have seen several nasty reviews about this guy. He was very business like and not at all rude. He's more like "people got places to go if you're slowing us down you can get left behind" That is just what happened to one couple who insisted on bringing their rolling bag as a carry on. The rules say no and she kicked up a shit about it so he told her she could stay her ass in Reno. And he did. People and schedules are depending on the coach to leave on time to arrive on time. If you're slowing us down you get left behind. The same rules as a train folks. I honestly appreciated that. It shows respect for the passengers who follow the rules. 10/10 would ride with william again. He is verbose at the onset of the journey but most of it was explaining why the prissy miss he left at the stop was screaming at the coach. By the way, there is only one trip out of reno per day. Yeah, she was pissed. I will update this after I take Megabus to the bay on the 6am trip (that was the review I was looking for when I came on here) so I can report on how timely it is. Gotta love the $1 fares. I may never take Amtrak again! read more

Coming home from SF the trip took exactly the same amount of time, despite BART strike related traffic, the bus temp was not so cold, the wifi worked a bit better, departure was right on time. I made a round trip reservation SF-SAC-SF for April 2. As I was about to leave, very early I might add, as my bus leaves at 6:00am, I checked to have my reservation number ready for the driver. Normally they send an email with all info. This time I didn't get the email. Time was ticking away and my ride to the bus stop had to go to work. I realized I wasn't going to make this trip so I sent my ride on his way. I immediately called Megabus and told them the situation. Ultimately I wanted to be refunded or credited for another trip. I was told by "Joseph" that according to terms and conditions, if I don't receive email within 1 hour of making reservations it is my responsibility to call in and get info over the phone. In short, I have to eat the round trip fare with one reserved seat. He would not let me speak to a supervisor. I ride that bus once a week and you would think they would have better customer service particularly for regulars. I won't ride their bus again. read more

Great service! The bus arrived early, providing passengers ample time to board. Driver was courteous and efficient, and arrived at destination (San Francisco) almost half an hour early. The bus was clean, even the restroom. The clientele was mostly college students and young adults. Prices are super cheap, while still maintaining quality. If you book early enough, you can get $1 tickets. Even $20 round trip ticket from Sacramento to San Francisco is cheaper than driving, if you consider gas, toll, and parking money. I would definitely choose the Megabus again next time I travel from Sacramento to San Francisco. read more
