Just updating the previous review! I want to thank the MedVet Campbell team for reviewing my case and issuing a refund for the charges on my recent visit. I truly appreciate the professionalism and the care they showed in resolving the issue. Thank you for taking the time to look into it and for handling everything so kindly.

Was initially hesitant that I had to bring my beloved baby here during an emergency because he had been to Sage (next door) before. BUT LET ME TELL YOU, THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! We came here on a Saturday after being told we needed to come after chest x-rays at my dog's regular vet. They immediately came out and took our baby to the back, they put him in the oxygen box. Don't expect to be in and out. If you've ever been to an emergency vet, it's not quick, they triage based on highest needs and in busier towns there will be a wait. We were here for 4 hours and they ended up keeping our baby over night. I want to express my gratitude and appreciation for Dr. Novotny, the vet techs, night doctor, and front desk staff. We were going through a very difficult time, thinking we were going to have to say goodbye to our baby but Dr. Novotny gave us plenty of options to try and our baby has made almost a full recovery. Dr. Novotny was so patient, very thorough, and REALLY LISTENED to what had been going on. And not just like look at you and nod his head listen, like this man said hold on and got his pen and paper out to write EVERYTHING down. He even called the cardiologist in when it was her weekend off and I'm grateful that she came in when she didn't have to. In an emergency, I will never think twice about coming here. I feel so comfortable and confident knowing MedVet is there for 24 hour emergency care.

I have 4 cats and 1 kitten. I also foster but this is the first time I had to go to an emergency vet. My orange guy, Heathcliff (I call him Heathy for short) has been sneezing. I was looking into making an appt w/ his vet after the holidays for it. It wasn't too concerning since he's still eating, drinking, and being his normal self. This morning while giving him his breakfast Christmas treat, I noticed he has a watery left eye. It was partially closed probably due to the tears (or pain?). I called MedVet in San Jose and decided to head there. A review for them will follow but I ended up leaving that location to come here. The service and sincerity from staff was unwavering. I was the only one there for a few minutes until a couple walked in w/ their dog. I am grateful there are places like this opened 24/7 because accidents and emergencies can happen to anyone at any given time. They took Heathy in. Roughly 10 min. later the vet came out to tell me what she assessed and asked if I want to do an eye test to see if his eyes are scratched. I consented to having it done. In the end my bill totaled $380'ish including the cost of the eye drops. I bought a humidifier 30 min. ago and will spend extra time w/ my boy. The upper respiratory infection can flare up due to stress. He dislikes Mango, another male orange guy I am trying to help find him a home. I suspect the stress from that was what caused the URI. Either ways. I am happy I brought him in and appreciative of this place and staff today on Christmas morning. Hopefully I will never come back here but at least now I know where to go in case of emergencies.

MY CAT DIED HERE. IT STARTED OUT HOPEFUL BUT PROGRESSED INTO AN AGONIZING EXPERIENCE. I have been TRAUMATIZED by this experience. My cat started having a breathing problem, so I brought her here because my local Vet was booked and couldn't see her. I came with my closest friend who was also appaled. I understand some people had very good experiences here. It depends on the severity of the case or luck. There are some very good veterinarians (Dr. La Plume) here and a few good technicians. But there are some vets who don't care and there are big problems especially if it's a serious case. When I brought my cat in, she was lively. In the oxygen case, she paced back and forth and meowed loudly. That was normal. Then she gradually went downhill after the treatment and the meds. She experienced a lot of stress here. Responsiveness and turnaround for follow-up was a nightmare. This affected my cat's life while on very strong med that was prescribed here. That part of the MedVet company needs to be addressed. I tried to reach a vet in between visits and begged for a response. Even walked into the clinic and requested a brief conversation with the vet on the floor at the time. They have 12-hour shifts. Why can't they find 5-10 minutes to talk to a pet parent who may not make it and it's urgent? I sent email per the coordinator's recommendation. I was recommended to forward it to another vet. All were ignored. I didn't hear any response for several days during a critical heart-related case. This happened another time. At a time when you need timely responses and you need support, it may or may not happen here. If they don't want to talk to you, they just don't respond?? This is not professional. Not caring behavior on the part of MedVet. Totally shameful! My beautiful sensitive lavender Siamese named "Milk" got worse and worse after treatment and meds. Then she developed kidney failure. There are all kinds of theories about how one affects the other. But how did this occur so fast when she was so much better when brought in? MedVet is understaffed. A few people at the front desk are very nice and some are just very matter-of-fact and very fast to hand over the invoices and act like they wish they weren't there. The total bill added up to a shocking $8000! I am a senior on fixed income. I never imagined any vet company would charge such exorbitant fees. This is a big out-of-state corporation. While there are some good people here, there are limitations to the professional conduct that were experienced and were extremely stressful. I had the distinct impression that the non-medical staff are under pressure to just keep saying "they're busy" and never get back to you. Dr. La Plume did reach me after my beloved cat was recommended to be euthanized and responded after my Yelp rating. I have since modified my comments somewhat. But my cat declined way too fast. And the experience was indeed a nightmare and my cat could have lived longer and not suffered this way to the point of her being euthanized.

I just tried to take this cat to med vet and my experience wasn't great. Saw this post on a fb page, I offered to take her to med vet since I've always been told you can take sick/injured cats there after hours. I got there and I told them about the post & I told them she had an ear tip and I was asked if they could check her chip? First they told me that they no longer accepted Cats for SJAC but then they call out a vet to check on her/him. The vet asks what is happening I explain what was told to me & what the post said. The vet, her name was apparently Yessenia (tall, w platinum hair), was really rude, and would not even address me. I was told the cat was not walking (possibly hit) & I mentioned that, she took the cat to a room and comes out and tells the receptionist (as she called her by her name) "this is a tnr, she has an ear tip. She was walking just fine!" Hands me the carrier and goes back into the room and doesn't not say a word to me. I thought that was very unprofessional, how are you going to be in the profession of helping animals but be rude because I am trying to help an animal. I even told her thank you before she took the cat and she just had an attitude. Then when I got to my car, you can see her complaining or saying something to the receptionist and 3 other members of staff with her little attitude. I left a little confused and discouraged, I didn't know Medvet was no longer accepting strays, I'm an animal lover & I was just trying to help this cat. No one deserves to feel bad for trying to help an animal, I don't even know what I did or said to make her act the way she did. I really hope she doesn't discourage others who just want to help as well. Only giving 2 stars because at least the receptionist tried to be helpful.

    Drizzi is my hero.

Mr. Zach, You will never understand the magnitude of what you did for me and Drizzi that day. You recognized so much, didn't have to and on the most human level possible. Drizzi is fully recovered and if not for your intervention, Drizzi might not be here today. You are my hero and my Drizzle's. She is ready for that Easter Bunny.. I will never forget and thank you Stephanie for being so generous. Sue

I panicked despite taking her to my local vet (he told me to wait 2 weeks for the antibiotics to work before I do anything else). Long story short, I did end up pushing my appt out to wait, but with all my anxiety and pushing my appt out, the staff at Sage were very nice. They were understanding and I ended up cancelling all together because my vet was right, her bump did go away! 4 stars as they're quite expensive. A consultation just to see a doctor would have been $384 and they take a deposit of $96. I can see charging a lot for emergency but not a scheduled visit a week out. Anywho, luckily my sweetheart got better and I didn't have to take her in. Overall decent experience with their team.

After recently moving out of state, we realized our dog's medication was almost out and contacted the clinic for a refill. Instead of helping, we were told they "could not" refill the prescription because we now live out of state. This made no sense to us, especially since we were able to refill other prescriptions through our in state Costco without issue. We were then told our dog would need to come in for another visit before they would authorize anything, despite it not even being a full year since his last appointment. At that point, it honestly felt less about the health and well-being of our pet and more about forcing another office visit and collecting more money. What made the situation even worse was the way we were treated during the interaction. Jessica, Dr. Garcia's head nurse, was rude and spoke to us in a very condescending manner throughout the conversation. Instead of showing empathy or professionalism, she made the entire experience feel hostile and uncomfortable during an already stressful situation involving our dog's medication. When you are dealing with a pet that depends on medication, the last thing you expect is to feel dismissed and pressured financially. We trusted this clinic with our dog's care, but this experience completely changed our opinion. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone looking for compassionate or patient-focused veterinary care.

Both vets said that there is no such thing. One of the vets even called Maple a "difficult dog" and said that the only way to have her "behave" is to take her to a board and train program. It was only after meeting with one of the top dog trainers in the Bay Area that I understood how ridiculous those claims were. The trainer scoffed at what they said and sent me to a vet she recommends who was shocked to hear what the vets at Happy Valley had said. Turns out that there are ample medications (SSRIs, etc) that can very significantly help with your pet's anxiety other than sedatives. I'm very disappointed with the vets at Happy Valley hospital. Because of them, Maple had to go through her adjustment to her new home not medicated properly. Her anxiety was through the roof and I had to spend hundreds of dollars on trainers and books trying to find a solution to her anxiety when in reality there are myriads of medications that could help Maple calm down.

My senior dog has Cushing's, diagnosed at Kirkwood, and was on a daily medicine for 53mg that they prescribed through a particular pharmacy for a couple years. It was costing me over $200 for EACH prescription, so when I found out that Chewy offered the same medicine at half the price, I tried to switch to Chewy. Kirkwood was very difficult about me switching pharmacies and when they found out that Chewy only offered the medicine at 50mg, not 53mg, they cancelled their previous approval of presciption with Chewy BEFORE letting me know. I heard from Chewy first before I head from Kirkwood. Ironically, this meant that my dog was longer without her meds than if they had just approved it in the first place! When I asked if the 3mg made that big of a difference, and I reminded them that my dog had lost a significant amount of weight since first being on the presciption, so could they not recalculate the prescription using her new weight, because wouldn't that make a difference for those 3mg? They told me they would need to run all the tests on my dog again to make sure she could be at that prescription level (which are hundreds of dollars) and had been done at her last check-up a couple of months earlier (which was also after her weight loss), BEFORE they would allow the switch to 50mg, which would basically force me to order from their preferred pharmacy again. I explained that I had lost my job and was on a budget and needed to cut costs, but they were not helpful at all. I got a second opinion from a friend who is a vet outside the area (hence why we don't see him typically) and he told me that while vets don't love Chewy, he could understand wanting to switch for economic reasons and that 3mg wouldn't matter, especially since a) Cushings is not as serious as other diseases and b) since she had lost weight, that definitely could be taken into account. We switched to Reed Animal Hospital, which works directly with Chewy and handled the subscription themselves and was fine with me doing 50mg given the lose of weight and her levels being fine at her last physical. After a few weeks on the new 50mg of meds, we checked her ACTH levels again and she was, indeed fine. Dr. Hu's bedside manner with families is horrible and I felt like their business with a particular pharmacy trumped my dog's care and my financial issues. I no longer recommend them.

It was absolutely unnecessary to respond the way she did to a customer where I have brought all 4 of my cats to and have spent lots of money at. I understand you are a business but you didn't have to make me feel worse than I was already feeling. Thank you for showing your true colors. You have completely turned me off to this vet and when I stated I will not be doing business with them anymore Diana also said ,"good, don't then." I work in customer service and my advice to you is retrain your employee. At least fake that you care. Horrible experience and you best believe I will be spreading the word.

I need to share serious concerns about the visit my dogs, Picasso and Mia, had at this clinic…read more Picasso has not been the same since his vaccination. He screamed from the back room during the injection, which was extremely distressing. After the visit, he was unable to walk properly for nearly three days. He's had nightly diarrhea -- three episodes on Sunday and two last night. His stool is loose, he has very low energy, and this is completely unlike him. Picasso is normally a happy, active dog. We received no full disclosure about possible side effects, risks, or any post-care instructions. This vaccination appears to have been too strong for him. Mia is 12 years old, and the vet barely performed a proper annual exam. There seemed to be far more emphasis on dental cleaning than on a thorough senior check-up. The assistant came in with a list of dental-related prep procedures -- including urine testing. I specifically asked whether her age required a more complete physical exam first. I agreed to a blood test but declined the urine sample. When I asked about the urine procedure and learned it required a needle through the abdomen, I declined again. The assistant confirmed they would not collect a urine sample. Mia was taken to the back for vaccination, and when they returned, the assistant was holding a tube of Mia's urine. She said, "Oops, I forgot you said no urine, but I already got it -- do you want me to discard it?" I was shocked. At that point, I allowed the charge since the sample was already taken, but this should never have happened. After she went back to the office, I could clearly hear her celebrating with the doctor -- laughing about what had just happened. This was incredibly unprofessional and upsetting. Overall Experience: The exam itself felt rushed and superficial. The doctor barely touched either dog, and even asked me to lift their lips for the dental check. We have had pets for many years, and this is the worst veterinary experience we've ever had at a clinic we used to trust. It genuinely feels like something has changed -- possibly ownership or management -- because the quality of care is noticeably different. At this point, we need to cancel all future appointments. Picasso needs immediate care from another clinic because he is not doing well.
