I finished and was waiting to give to her but she left for 35 minutes. I asked how long of a wait when she returned and she said she would check. I asked again 15 minutes later and she said she doesn't know. I said 5, 20, an hour? Probably an hour she said. No one was in the room and she said this with a huge smile on her face. I had just moved to the area and I had to relearn where I can go for my urgent care needs. I found MedSpring was in network and came here for my recent injury. I am getting too old!! Blah! Anyway, there was one person ahead of me and the front desk person was extremely nice and helpful. While we waited we could of had snacks and coffee from the snack area. Free food and drinks gets an extra star. haha All my information was taken back in the exam room. I was asked about what happened to me and the medical assistant or nurse took my vitals. A physician assistant came in and did an examination on my injury of the upper back and right shoulder area. She referred me to an orthopedic because of my intensity of training. She would tell normal people (or at least ones that are less active) to take 4-6 weeks off to recoup. Ummm no that doesn't work in my book and it was nice of her to listen to me and my concerns. She even worked with me to make sure the ortho doctor referral was in network with my insurance before she typed the order. My husband was with me and was impressed on how short the wait was and how the exam went. He said he will more than likely come to this location in the future for himself. read more

Excellent! I was experiencing some aches and pains along with major congestion, headache and pressure in my sinuses. I've tired with the home remedies but I work up at its peak on Sunday morning and decided to get help. The clinic is clean, inviting and very friendly. From the front desk interaction, the nurse and the doctor, everyone is very nice, super informative and operates in timely matter. I was diagnosed with sinus/bronchitis infection and prescribed meds. I went home with a paperwork spelling out in details my visit, what to do next as far as my meds, what I was diagnostic with along with helpful pointers for prevention in the future. I came here today with pretty bad abdominal pain. There was no wait. The front desk staff was incredibly warm and professional. He easily answered all my billing questions. I wish I could hire him as a guest coordinator at my work. The PA was very sweet and honest with me. She was concerned but felt they were unable to treat me without a cat scan for diagnosis. She ended up sending me to the ER. She could've run a bunch of tests first and then send me over, but I appreciated her honestly and not wanting to overcharge me. She even asked all the nurses for a good recommendation for where to send me and printed it out for me. read more

I had gone to RediClinic and was given the third degree and asked to sign irrelevant papers. A nurse was on duty. Although sick, I walked out of there. My PCP, who was booked, mentioned Medspring and that I should get medical care. This was excellent, from the moment I walked in and was greeted by Mary, the receptionist, who made me immediately comfortable, few papers to sign, and when the doctor would see me. Dr. Suzanne VanBenthuysen checked me thoroughly, diagnosed me correctly and asked me to some things with my PCP regarding my condition. She performed a procedure which immediately made me feel better and gave me prescriptions which are helping each day. Her medical assistant knew what to do and checked on me often. I hope that nothing changes. How reassuring and I was personally grateful to have an MD when needed so quickly, and possibly avoiding the ER. Dr. VanBenthuysen is up there with the best. read more

I would give this place 6 stars if i could! As a clumsy person I have had my fair share of incidents which have required a visit to the urgent care clinic, so I have been to over a dozen in the last 15 years or so - and let me tell you this is the best one I have ever been to! I broke my hand on a Sunday afternoon when most other offices were closed, this office is open later than most which is nice since non urgent emergencies don't adhere to a schedule. I walked in to find the front desk nurse looking a bit frazzled, as a rush of people had just come in and were treating him badly ( I know emergencies can be stressful but its no excuse to treat someone like crap when they are trying to help you) - and despite all this he greeted me warmly and was honest about the 1.5-2 hour wait time as they were slammed from that rush of people. While waiting to be seen I witnessed him handle a variety of people and situations with calm professionalism that made me feel at ease given a stressful area. He handled the forms and payment efficiently and was patient as I fumbled with one hand to fill everything out. I was seen in what felt like less time, and the nurse who took my vitals was a total gem who made this whole very painful experience much less crappy. Xrays were taken, and within the hour I had confirmation that I broke some stuff and needed to see a specialist in the morning. Dr. Parker was great and explained to me every step of the process of what they were doing with a warm tone and bedside manner I wish my Primary Doctor had. They were so attentive, kind, and understanding - and stayed late to make sure I was taken care of. I wish I got all of their names as they were the type of caregivers that truly make a difference and deserve recognition for their work. Need an Urgent Care solution in South Austin? Do not go here under any circumstances. These people almost killed me with a misdiagnosis that could have been resolved with a simple antibiotic. I went to med spring for what seemed to be a pretty straightforward head cold with a sore throat. After waiting an hour in the waiting room we were then show in our private room where we waited another 45 minutes to see a doctor. I was given a typical strep test and waited another hour for the results. The doctor diagnosed me with a virus that cannot be treated with antibiotics even though I had complained of having a sore throat mainly on one side of my throat. What I didn't understand at the time is that I had a full abscess on the back of one of my tonsils., which was on my chart and the doctor never mentioned it. The doctor recommended that I get Flonase and take ibuprofen and wait up to two weeks and my symptoms should resolve. Medspring called to check up on me about five days later I was still complaining of a sore throat and told them I was having a difficult time eating. They recommended that I wait it out and if it became too bad to make another appointment. By that evening, the combination of Flonase and lack of antibiotics the abscess on my throat grew to the point to where I had to receive emergency medical services in order to save my life. The abscess was so large that I could no longer speak and I was dangerously close to having my throat close up. I had to seek the help of specialist, ENT, in order to have my symptoms fully resolve. This cost me hundreds of dollars out of pocket and cost my insurance company thousands. ****Update**** I just received a bill from the hospital in the amount of $2,300. My insurance covered nearly $8,000. I am officially out over $2,700 in co-pays, medication, and medical bills. Not to mentioned the days of work I missed and weeks of recuperation. These people are charlatans. read more

OK, everyone - I promised to update, and I finally have a happy update! Thanks to Sara's help, I was able to speak to someone at the billing department a couple of weeks ago (shout out to Harvey!) who was able to finally get my refund processed. My saga is over and my refund has cleared! I am adding a couple of stars to my review, and here's why: 1) My daughter was in and out quickly and everyone we interacted with was nice - I didn't have to second guess the care we received, which is important. 2) If you don't have insurance and need an urgent care, their rates seem pretty reasonable and definitely much cheaper than an ER. 3) Though it took three times longer than they said it would, my refund *was* eventually processed. I can't bump my review any higher because this honestly was a near-daily source of stress for me for months, and I hope they will reconsider their insurance verification provider (or at least tell people more accurate information up front about what the process is for refunds) so this won't be an issue for others. But I am grateful for the care my daughter received and also for the people who finally helped get everything resolved! read more

After pricing ALL of the clinics around us this was the cheapest! My husband had been fighting a bad cough and it had gotten pretty bad to where we didn't know if it might have been pneumonia or whooping cough. While he was being examined I sat in their VERY CLEAN LOBBY waiting for him with our 3 little boys. It was by far the cleanest clinic I have ever stepped foot in. The doctor was able to figure out what the cause was without additional costs of x-rays or blood work so we walked out spending the base cost. read more

Triple check with your insurance because after repeatedly being told by the medspring staff that my primary care appointment would be in-network and covered I was slammed with a massive bill and it was billed as out-of-network. I didn't find out about this from actually getting a bill from medspring (it never arrived) but from my insurance company. Also there is no way to view your bill online. There is an online portal, but it has nothing to do with billing. I know I should have checked before the appointment, but I can't help from feeling like they lied to me. I also would have preferred they let me know there was a balance after my initial visit and definitely before I made a follow up appointment!!! Avoid this place. They are dishonest. read more

Like many in Austin, I had a nagging case of bronchitis this winter. After several weeks of it waning and returning, I decided(read: was forced to go by friends who look out for me better than I do) to get it checked out and get the antibiotics I knew I needed. The place is beautiful. I don't know how to compare doctor's offices, but this was pretty darn nice without feeling cold and impersonal like I was expecting. After minimal time in the waiting room filling out paperwork I was put in a patient room. They informed me that the wait would be a while, so I wasn't shocked. (They said 2 hours, and it was pretty accurate) The doctor did a very brief exam. I knew going in what I had and I just needed a confirmation, so I'm not shocked by it. What got me was while discussing things I was told "so, we're prescribing something for the cough, antibiotics and something for the shortness of breath". I pointed out that the latter was not a symptom I was experiencing at all, and I thought it was corrected on the prescription order. When I went to the pharmacy, they hadn't called my prescription in, so I checked back again an hour later-still not called in. When I called Medspring's customer service they got it sorted out. After picking up the prescription I noticed that they had still put on the very expensive inhaler for the symptom I explicitly said I did not have. There's a lot of negative commentary to be said about the state of medical care in the US, and this is certainly one of them. Coming into things I certainly could see how I'd have been marked up needlessly if I weren't paying attention. read more

I decided to visit MedSpring about 3 weeks ago when I thought I had broken my ankle. I don't have health insurance, so a trip to the ER was out of the question. I read the reviews for MedSpring and figured this was a great, safe bet. I VERY rarely go to the the Dr. This was actually the first time I had been in 2 1/2 years. But I was in an extreme amount of pain, so I knew I needed to get this looked at. When I first walked in I was wowed. The waiting area was extremely clean and well kept. My first contact was with the young man working behind the counter. At first he seemed responsive while having me fill out the mandated paperwork. Then I was promptly taken back to an exam room. He was not engaging by any means. It seemed as if he were just going through the motions of his job. Next a medical assistant came to take my vitals. She briefly inquired as to how I sustained my injury, and wrote my vitals down on a notepad. She left soon thereafter, and then the dr blew through the door. He seemed extremely rushed and as if he didn't really care what happened to my ankle. He NEVER examined it or had me move it around so that he could determine to what degree I tore ligaments. He simply poked it one time, which sent shockwaves through my leg, then declared that the next step was an x-ray. He was out of the exam room as quickly as he arrived. Oh and I must mention that instead of examining my ankle, he inquired if I had bronchitis! I didn't have a cough or anything of the nature. I was in an wheelchair for crying out loud with a severely swollen ankle! A medical assistant (or x-ray technician) not really sure which one she was, came to take me to get my x-rays. Along the way, she rammed me into the doorframe as she navigated me and the wheel chair. She was very rough while positioning my ankle as well. As we got back to the room, I declared that i was in so much pain that I couldn't imagine my ankle not being broken. She said, "Yeah it's crazy. I've seen people come through here with ankles that look worse than yours and weren't in any pain. It really just depends on your pain tolerance." Really? Do you really think that's a professional thing to say to someone who is clearly in enough pain that they came to the Dr? Finally the waiting game was over and the Dr came flying in again. He declared that he didn't see a break on the x-ray and that an x-ray technician would review it the following day and contact me. Then he was gone. Seriously. That quickly. I sat there thinking, ok...now what. I couldn't bear ANY weight on my ankle and have ZERO answers for recovery times etc. The medical assistant came in, wrapped my ankle with an ace bandage, gave me some crutches then proclaimed, "You're all done!" I sat there by myself in the exam room wondering how I was going to get out of the door on crutches. Finally I hobbled to the door and was able to get it open enough to ask my friend in the waiting room to open the door. Oh and I must mention that the same assistant came to collect payment from me before she wrapped my ankle etc. I told her that I left my purse in the waiting room with my son's father. Apparently she stepped out in to the waiting room and proclaimed to him, "I hear you're the one with all the money." MedSpring apparently has an online portal that allows patients to log on and view their medical records. I received an email notification the next day that my records were available to review, so I figured what the heck, I'll see what this is all about. I sure was surprised to find out that a prescription had be written for me and filled! There was NO mention from the Dr or his assistants that any prescription had be written from me!! This prompted me to call and speak with someone in charge at MedSrping. I spoke with a medical director who was sincerely apologetic about my experience and gave me lengthy information on how to treat my severely sprained ankle. She made it known that my experience is not reflective of the level of care MedSpring provides. She assured me that they would find some way to make it right. Her words were "I'm going to speak to billing and make sure they send you something very nice." She acknowledged that she could not refund me the $255 i paid for my visit, nor did I ask for that. I simply wanted to make sure that she was aware, so that future patients didn't experience the same treatment I did. I figured I would let the dust settle and then see what spectacular gift they were going to send me. Much to my surprise, I received a Starbucks gift card in the mail for......$10!!! Really? That's how much my troubles are worth to you? Maybe all urgent care facilities are like this. I don't know. What I do know is that the level of care I received was below par and I will never visit this facility again (should I need to). It seems as if they are great for writing prescriptions for sick people, but as far as treatment goes, they missed the boat on that. read more

Didn't take my own advice and paid the price... But when you need "Urgent" Care close to home in SE Austin, the options are limited.... Again...HORRIBLE !!!! 3 breathing treatments on substandard equipment, one that even the Dr. ridiculed almost 40mins per treatment. Was forgotten about for 45mins, this very sick with fever so my mood and patients were already thin. Then they used an old Pharmacy that needed to be updated and was never verified on using. So I either had to wait for the incorrect Pharmacy to cancel the prescription (around 45mins+) or go across town (In rush hr traffic) chose the latter, that is a whole other story (see my review of the HEB on Slaughter)... so in all this clinic needs some serious fine tuning... Confirmation of Pharnacy being used BEFORE the script is sent and keep an eye on the patient and keep him/her updated on when the are going to be seen... read more

I had an absolutely terrible experience at this location and will never go back again. First of all, I went at 1pm on a Wednesday, when it was entirely uncrowded, and still my appointment lasted 2 hours (and much of that time was spent waiting to actually see a doctor). Secondly, I saw three different people, one doctor and two assistants, and none of them were at all friendly or warm in the slightest. After briefly checking my symptoms, the doctor left the room telling me he would be back, and I never saw him again. Finally, the doctor never actually told me what was wrong with me. He simply prescribed me medication and it wasn't until I received a pamphlet from the third assistant that I saw my diagnosis. Regardless, I will not go back to this location and I highly advise others against attending here as well. read more

My experience with MedSpring was stressful due to miscommunication between MedSpring and my insurance provider, involving claims going unpaid and a bill sent to collections. But once I got in touch with the right people, the situation was quickly remedied. Be sure that MedSpring has your insurance information and that the claim has been submitted once you leave. First let me explain that I live near South Lamar and prior to the opening of MedSpring and similar new-style urgent care facilities, have repeatedly used the South Lamar Pro Med when illness strikes at a time when my primary care dr is not available. I detest Pro Med almost as much as the thought of going to an actual hospital ER for non-emergency care. So I was absolutely primed to try an alternative, when my daughter and I both developed extreme dire throats, possible strep on a Sunday am. We arrived at this MedSpring at 9:30 Sunday am. Front desk polite and reasonably welcoming, but was initially flummoxed by my passport as ID (my DL recently lost), but accepted it. Vitals taken by nurse/assistant who was adequate, nothing special. I asked about the BP reading; response: "it's OK." I could have pushed for actual #'s, which is what I wanted, but let it go. Dr was knowledgeable, explained options, but got a little ambiguous toward the end. I could see my daughter (age 23) didn't quite understand, but I was able to explain after dr left room. Dr's communication with assistant not optimal, as assistant came into room without all paperwork, and wasn't aware of options/contingencies dr had discussed with us, but quickly got up to speed. $115 for visit. Less if your deductible has already been satisfied. This compares very well with regular ER, CVS Minute Clinic ($99 for Nurse Practitioner) and the detestable ProMed. All in all, a very reasonable experience, especially considering I was in a very grouchy mood to begin with. read more

I was on a family vacation when I suddenly had a painful UTI. On a Sunday morning, I searched Google for how to find urgent medical help and I found this place located just moments from our hotel. Visiting MedSpring was the single most pleasant health care experience I have ever had. It was super efficient, quick, and most importantly, the staff were friendly. Usually in my home town, the admin staff in doctors' offices act like they HATE their jobs and the patients, but it wasn't like that at all at MedSpring. From the front desk person who asked me if I wanted water or coffee to the person who initiated lab tests, everyone was uniformly cheerful. The facilities themselves were also very clean and nice. Dr. Driskell was terrific. She was sympathetic, knowledgeable, and helpful. She gets big bonus points for not shaming me about my challenging health insurance situation. If you have to be sick on vacation, this is the place to go! read more

Right, so I had been fighting acute and intense pain in an area that shall not be named for close to twelve hours. I couldn't work, eat, stand or sit, all I could do was lay in bed and think that the devil had infiltrated my body. Enough was enough. After giving the lady at the front desk my information, it only took between 5 and 10 minutes to get to the exam room. The nurse was sympathetic and professional. Dr. Connor came in about 5 minutes afterward and had great bedside manner. She made her diagnosis and explained that it is something MDs just don't know a lot about at the moment, in terms of the hows and whys. Dr. Connor said it was something really painful some unfortunates such as myself experience for 12-24 hours but they don't know why it happens exactly. I really appreciated that honesty because any reasonably intelligent person knows some things just can't be explained. I was prescribed some oral and topical medications that helped ease the pain and symptoms very quickly. She also gave me a referral in case my problem arises once more, but God I hope it doesn't. I was in and out in less than 45 minutes and began to feel better as soon as I saw the doctor. She put me at ease right away, I couldn't be more grateful for her and the clinic's help. read more

Visited this facility TWICE yesterday. The first time was because my PCP had no open appointments and I needed to be seen quickly. The office is fantastically clean and everyone we met was so friendly. The exam rooms are homey and have no 'Dr's Office' feel, they put you right at ease. The young man who showed me in let me know right away that there were quite a few people ahead of me. I was able to watch the news while waiting. That evening I went with my son because I was afraid he had broken his arm. This was 4 hours after my previous visit. There were different staff and they were just as friendly and accommodating. When I asked to use the restroom the young lady at the front desk even warned me of its previous occupant and offered to let me use the staff restroom if it was too bad. I love this place. read more

The staff was very nice and it was very clean. They are fast with things and have the whole urgent thing down. My only complaint is that after going to them yesterday, the doctor did the exam, but never told me what was wrong or what to do to get better. The medical assistant came in with information sheets leaving me to believe whatever info sheets he gave me was what I had. Then he said do you have any questions before you leave?! Uhhhhhh yeah?! What do I have?? Do I have any prescriptions?? Where is my doctor that is suppose to go over this?? And I know it's an urgent care facility, but I was probably the second patient they had seen all day. It was not busy and there were not any cars in the parking lot. The reason for the one star is mainly for the price the doctor got paid, (close to $200) , or at least that's what I was charged for "attending physician", she should have come in the room more than once. And DEFINITELY should've come in the room to tell me what was going on and what all she prescribed. read more

I got a bill from a collection agency for $8.00 I see their billing is as bad and their health care. My visit was 9-8-15 it is now 8 months later no warning just you are in collections for $8. No bills were sent or they just decided with my previous yelp to send me to collections without warning. Well how hard up can you be? I came in to get my stitches out from my visit to the Houston location. (FREE as a follow up!) The support staff left a bit to be desired, but the NP was extremely kind, quick, and attentive. I made an appointment and got in and out in ~30 minutes. The clinic is very convenient and the employees are perfectly nice. My complaint is that i went to them complaining of stomach problems, and i was misdiagnosed. The nurse practioner told me that there was nothing seriously wrong with me. Later, i went to a general practioner and got the tests i needed to get diagnosed. My son was not doing well and we came here as directed by Tricare. Did online check in which was a nice option and when we arrived the receptionist was extremely kind and attentive. She put on cartoons for him and gave him a coloring page and chatted with me a bit. We got in promptly and the triage/check in nurse was also really friendly and he got our information and let us know the doc would be in soon. The pediatrician on staff was kind, quick and precise. I was seen today by Dr.Stacy Parker and was so impressed with him. I'm 5 months pregnant and was seen at another clinic earlier this week. The previous doctor prescribed something that could be harmful to my baby. So I quickly searched for someone else. That's when I found Med Spring. Dr.Parker was very detailed on his notes and asked many questions. I quickly felt very comfortable with him. He asked me how far a long I was and explained my injury in detail. His technician Alex was also very welcoming and friendly. The staff took very good care of me. Made me laugh and took time to listen to my medical questions/concerns. I was very pleased with how they treated me. They seemed to be just as concerned with my injury I was. They also congratulated me on my pregnancy. I was even shown some cute baby photos. I took 1 star off because when I called to ask the name of who I saw I was laughed at. Not sure why. This is a workplace injury I love to have detailed notes for my human resources department. I wanted everyones name so that I could leave a good detailed review. The receptionist seemed a little annoyed (at 1st) she warmed up after I explained my previous visit (at a different clinic) and why I was coming to this one instead. She made up for it by leaving a nice note on my folder. It said "thank you Sophia for trusting us with your care. Feel better soon. CONGRATULATIONS ON THE BABY! - Ruby." Over all the experience was great. If I happen to need an emergency clinic again I'll return to this one. read more

These places are never good, but this one also doesn't seem to grasp how billing works. Be prepared to receive bills with unspecified charges or charges for things you already paid for at the time! Expect staff who seem annoyed that you're there even if you're the only person. Don't dare ask to read things you're asked to sign or they'll become petulant, and if they even think you might be injured from a work related incident they aren't going to lose the obsession with wanting to double bill, facts be damned! I'll raise my rating to two stars when someone burns it to the ground. read more
