This was our first stop on our El Dorado winery experience know as "The Great Out There" and it set the bar so high that no other winery in our two day experience matched the food, service and wines of Mediterranean. They started us off with a wonderful and bright Pinot Grigio followed by our first pairing of Their amazing Fume' Blanc with mustard chicken in cornichon cream sauce. Next up was their Rose' with peach granita. Finally it was GSM and Zin with duck confit on crostini and short rib! The location was beautiful, the staff knowledgeable and friendly and the wines fairly priced and high quality.

Beautiful manchego and cracker board with our flight

Our server was absolutely delightful. She customized a cheese and cracker plate specifically for us based off of what we were interested in complete with a rosemary garnish to bring out the Christmas spirit. She was very accommodating with adjustments to our wine flights. Not to mention the wines were all delicious and she gave us some chocolates to pair with a dessert wines as well!

My family would frequently visit this location when it went by Palissandro, which specialized in Italian varietals. The great news is that Mediterranean is also well worth a visit when you're sipping your way through the El Dorado wine region. I had accidentally chosen Mediterranean as my check in stop for this year's Passport Weekend, to tell you the honest truth as I am bound to do as an Elite. ;-) It turns out I did well in my choice because the folks here were inviting and knowledgeable about not only their own offerings and food pairings, but with the Passport process and activities as well. The latter was not the case at some of the other places we visited, just saying. As I had never done Passport before, this was much appreciated. Their food pairing choices, notably the tri tip with gouda and bruschetta selection, were some of my favorites that I had during the long day of tasting and sampling. (If you're not aware what Passport is, you basically have access to 30 wineries on one ticket, and can hit as many as you can in one day.) This warmed my heart because Palissandro always had small bites when I would come in. I highly recommend their Barbera as well. This was the jewel on their tasting menu. I will be back to buy more. Mediterranean is not a tasting room where you need to be apprehensive about the parking situation as you travel up the steep hill from the road below. There's a nice parking lot waiting, and even nicer people inside. The bathrooms are well stocked and clean, and there is still comfy furniture inside for anyone who may need it.

Amazing cheese!!

Awesome stop on your wine tasting adventures! The girls were so sweet to treat our freind who had a birthday when we were there. They brought her an amazing crock of decadent cheese to go with our wine tasting! The montepulciano was amazing! We bought a case, and joined their wine club! Can't wait for the summer concerts!

Stopped in at this hidden gem of a winery last Saturday while I was in the area, and once again they didn't disappoint with their excellent wines and outstanding customer service.

What an amazing place! The staff really knows their stuff. The wine, food, and ambiance that is created allows you to sit back and enjoy the beautiful view. The set up allows social distancing in a wonderfully relaxing environment.

The view is beautiful. The wine was delicious, it was hard to only pick a few. And the staff were very friendly and took very good care of us.

First off I have to admit I always enjoy going to Shadow Ranch, great wine tasting, and when they…read morehave food, its great and paired with some of the wines well.. The staff are super friendly and know there wines, and there own product very well.. I tend to always enjoy there Sherriff blend. Ambiance is very relaxing, inside they have a nice setting, with wood, and just relaxing.,.. The outside is not 100% covered how ever, more but allows the sun to somewhat come through, but somewhat shady as well. The patio area is Dog friendly, and they will bring out water for your pooch , no wine for the dogs tho.... lol

We had a great visit at Shadow Ranch for pizza on the patio. We had reservations for 1:30 and when…read morewe got there it wasn't too busy, but pretty soon it was packed up. We tried three different pizzas between us, the pepperoni, the gorgonzola with fig and the daily special, which was hawaiian, though we sub'd pepperoni for ham. We did a gluten free crust for two of them and it was, by far, the best gluten free crust I've had. It was still crispy on the bottom, just like a regular wood-fired pizza. Flavor-wise, the gorgonzola fig was everyone's favorite, by far. The fig, cheese and spicy arugula was just perfect. We held the walnuts. Tracy took care of us and we loved our tasting. Our designated driver was treated to an Arnold Palmer, much better than just his usual bottle of water. I thought their wines were pretty reasonably priced, even for non-members. You need to buy at least $60 worth of wine to waive the $15 tasting price - I appreciate that they put that right at the top of the menu so there's no guessing. The tasting was really generous with good pours so even if we hadn't bought wine I would have felt it was worth it. Tracy took great care of us, answering all our questions and keeping our water and wine glasses filled. It was a wonderful, relaxing day on the beautiful property.

The tasting room is set for a delightful experience with wooden shoes lining the fence, home made Hors d'Oeuvres and some of the best wines I've tasted. The wines are made with old style European traditions. Their wines are made with food pairing in mind and can be laid down for 10 years or more. The wines are exploding with flavor, beginning with a bold rich start to a smooth finish. I recommend decanting his wines for 30min to an hour before serving. Don't forget to try some of his 10+ year old wines and ask him about the (S.H.S.Y.O.W). When you sign up for his "futures" and ask him when it will be ready. He will tell you "It depends on the wine". If he doesn't think it's ready he will let it age even longer to ensure you get an amazing bottle of wine every time. Robert "the wine maker" and his family are wonderful people and very welcoming. Robert and his father have a sense of humor that stands alone. I think you will have a great experience at Van der Vijver Estate and you are sure to get a great bottle of wine... You can Google Van der Vijver Estate for their website info.

This is not a pretentious place instead you're going to be poured by the owner and his father and have tons of laughs and back and forth. Everything we tasted was top notch and highly enjoyed. I was thrilled to be able to score a bottle of Sangiovese which made Ferrari Carano taste like Sutter Home. This is a must stop for people who have a sense of humor and like having a great time and also drinking some pretty unique stuff!
