The chute entrance into the canal is suited for anyone - but especially useful for elders or those with mobility issues. But the best part of Erie Canal Boat Company in Fairport is the owner Pete. He wants everyone to love boating and get the best experience possible. First he has and knows everything about the equipment and will get you perfectly situated for what you need to have an amazing time out on the water. What really shines is his personality though... Pete is a giver and is generous with his time, expertise and enthusiasm for paddling. He not only runs the shop, but helps get you in and out of the boat and safely in and out of the canal. He loves what he does and he loves helping you get out and enjoying the canal. His enthusiasm is contagious. He is simply THE BEST!!! The water was clean in some parts and not in others. There were a few large branches we had to avoid. We got a quick good lesson on kayaking before we went into the water; it was very helpful. Our kayaking journey was absolutely beautiful. We passed a whole lot of ducks. They really kept us entertained. We passed a cute park, went through some gorgeous neighborhoods. Overall, there were a lot of trees on the shore by the canal so it felt very serene. I would recommend kayaking here! :)

The falls are amazing but when you ride right up to the falls and you can see them from water level there's just no describing how awesome and powerful nature is! The lines actually moved really quick especially for the amount of tourist that were there. The boat ride is around 20 minutes. The view of the falls from the American side is really good as well when you're riding by. If you're on the American side you can do the Maid of the Mist boat ride, they both take you to the same spot. American boat rides were blue ponchos while the Canadian side wears red. Great for an individual, couple or the whole family! Was not disappointed at all.

It was super easy to locate the meeting point for the boat. As soon as we walked past the main downtown area we saw the blue arches showing Niagara City Cruises. Online there was a disclaimer that even though you are booking a specific time you may need to wait past then to get onto the boat. We arrived at 10:20 for our 10:30 cruise and were promptly beginning out walk down towards the boat at 10:31. When you get to the meeting point for the boat you join a queue that then goes into the lift that will take you down to the boat. There are 2 lifts running at the same time so this process went quickly. Once we made it off of the lift we followed the signage for the departing boat. Before we joined the next queue to get onto the boat employees were handing out ponchos that were included in the ticket price. At this point there was a stand selling snacks and drinks. We did not take advantage of this at this time, so I cannot comment on the quality of the food. We conrinued to head towards the next queue which would lead us onto the boat. We had the option of riding on the top of the boat or the bottom, and we chose the top. It was quiet crowded up there but it did seem like no matter where you stood you had a view-and you were going to get soaked. We were absolutely drenched. They take you right to the bottom of the falls. It was an amazing experience that I am so glad that we did! After our trip I watched the later boats going to the falls and I was shocked at how close the boat actually takes you. At some point the most from the falls was so thick I couldn't see. It felt like we were in a rain storm and we were all cracking up and how crazy it was. This tour is 20 minutes which seems like the perfect amount of time to get drenched. We saw both falls, and no matter what side of the boat you are on you are going to have a great experience. Getting off of the boat was quick and easy. They offer recycling for the used ponchos. When you continue on you will run into the food and drink stands as well as ample seating and restrooms where you can regroup before continuing on. They do take your photo before you get onto the boat, and you have the option to buy it for $50 CAD. This include 2 8x10 prints and a digital download. They do add fun backgrounds to the photos, and they do look like there was some kind of editing done to make the image look a little finer. Converted to USD I thought it was a good price for a great souvenir. I will be hanging the photo in my house! We had very little interaction with the employees, which I feel was a result of them operating efficiently. We didn't have any hold-ups from the time we arrived to when we exited. At the end you queue for the lift to take you back up to the original booth for Niagara City Cruises. From there you can simply keep walking and enjoy the view of the falls from the trail. Quick, efficient, and no frills for a fair price.

I have only done the open air boat, so this review pertains to that experience. It was like a natural thrill ride/roller coaster. ( Fast speeds and spins, but also some amazing views. One thing to note is make sure you keep your group close together so you can actually be seated together. If you live local, check for discounts online. Updated review 8/9/26…read more Another great WNY/Buffalo summer experience. I have increased my rating of the Moondance catamaran boat ride, leaving the Erie Basin Marina. Even though the boat does not sail out onto a Lake Erie as far as one would expect, $28 for a cruise at sunset especially is definitely worth it. The views of the Buffalo skyline, the lit up silo and the Naval Park, are spectacular from the water. Next year, I'm considering buying a season pass. This way I can enjoy the sailing anytime I want. as much as I want during the sailing season. Cocktails are reasonably priced on board. You're allowed to bring your own food and snacks from home. The music to accompany the tour was a little loud at first, but then turn down which was appreciated. The captain and his crew were friendly and gave good advice on before the sail began. The ramp from the dock makes it easy for those with disabilities to board and exit the ship. There are two bathrooms below deck. But they do require some stairs to go down.

The Irondequoit Bay Outlet Bridge was closed so there was no opportunity to cross the harbor on foot or by vehicle without driving all the way around the harbor. So that's a downer. Boats, jet skis, canoes..... whatever you are looking for, it is here. There is even a small beach which people seemed to enjoy very much.
