After you descend a very steep hill, you can walk along the riverbed and it beaches, and it's well-maintained pathways and find yourself a good spot to fish or just enjoy nature. Walk down as far as the dam and the highly oxygenated water makes for a wonderful fish spawning environment and keeps the creek stocked and the fishermen happy. Walk off the beaten path, want to steep, wooded hills or if it's warm enough, walk, right in the creek itself. And then to get back to your car you have to go up that very steep hill. The standout for me was this amazing topographic map where you move the sand and it updates the contour lines live. I wish I had that when learning maps. They also run a bunch of events... I've done a luminary walk and an owl prowl, plus there are eagle nest outings and birding stuff. The gift shop is small but nice. Overall, if you're looking for a good nature outing, this(and the other sites they manage are great. Swallow Hollow is my favorite trail, but the whole area is awesome.

This is a really lovely park... plenty of open space for playing games on the grass, getting some…read moresun, and also a pavilion or two for larger groups that want some cover & picnic tables. in the lower area, there's a very short little pathway by the water... there were kids playing and exploring the water, and someone else was fly fishing. On the upper portion of the park is the actual walking trail, which is a really well worn out path and very easy to walk (though I wouldn't consider it accessible to those in wheelchairs, etc). There isn't really anything to *see* at the end... it just kind of ends... but then you turn around and walk back. Honestly, my dog was more than happy to explore the entirety either way. :) I do have to remove one star because their bathroom facilities aren't great. At the time of my visit, the women's restroom was completely clogged - and the men's room was basically a single stall. :-/ TL;DR Really enjoyable park and I'll definitely be back in the future.

As I was driving out here in Basom, New York I came across this wildlife refuge. So of course I had…read moreto stop. There's all sorts of educational material in a little stand that talks about the area. It's got some really interesting facts. it's got a whole area for children's information, and a whole area for adults related information. There's a very small parking area here as well. This is state owned land so hopefully will be protected from any kind of development in the future.
