Yesterday was a great day to spend at this beautiful state park located along Lake Ontario. We got to go on top of Thirty Mile Point Light House (for $1 admission) and see the lake and park from a great vantage point. Then we explored the trails, which gave us a great nature walk. I do have to mention the trails and trail map are not completely accurate and kind of confusing , but it's a short trail overall (about 5 miles or so) so we figured out what turn we did wrong eventually without going too far out of our way. Then we had a nice lunch at one of the picnic tables near the lake. I'm not much of a camper, but it looks like many people were enjoying the camping facilities on the premises. Bathrooms were super clean too. I'll let the pictures do the talking, but I would add it to your list of must check out parks for exploring!

Cute park! I think it's definitely underrated compared to other state parks. I really love all the hiking trails throughout the park

A friend and I came here today to tour the lighthouse. We paid a nominal ($6) fee to enter the state park. We were told we could park by the bathrooms or in front of the lighthouse. We parked by the bathrooms, which were very clean. When the tour guide is giving a tour, the she locks the lighthouse, so we walked around, took pictures, and hiked the trails. There were three different trails. (Red, blue, and green.) None are treacherous but there are some beautiful areas that you can see. It's so peaceful to be hiking in open areas and in the woods. I was given a map, when I paid for the entrance fee. It was easy to follow. After hiking, we went to the lighthouse and waited until it was open. (Once a tour begins, the tour guide locks the door, so no one else can enter.) There was an old cannon that a scuba diver found, in the gift shop area. The Coast Guard redid the floor with things that lighthouse families actually used while living there. The tour was very informative and great. I bought two stickers for my car, one which talks about the lighthouse and one that says Golden Hill State Park on it. I bought a metal bookmark too. If you want to get away for a weekend or longer, you can rent a campsite here to trailer camp, tent camp, or to camp in a yurt. You can also rent one of the floors of the lighthouse for $200/night. It has space for six people. Stop by Golden Hill State Park for an interesting and relaxing day. You'll be happy you did.

This is one of my favorite state parks to camp at. I come here every year with my family. It's really laid back and the park workers there are always so nice. It's right on Lake Ontario and offers beautiful views of the lake and is so awesome at sunrise and sunset. 30 Mile Point Lighthouse is also part of the park and they offer tours for only $1 for adults. I highly recommend camping here or just coming for a day visit to see the lighthouse.

So I decided to go checkout a lighthouse on Lake Ontario. In order to get there you enter Golden Hill State Park. Not NYs largest park. But nice regardless. It costs $5 to get into the park. Which I found annoying, since the park wasn't my goal. But fine. In the guard area, where you pay that entrance fee, there are maps and things like that. There is also a small sundrie area, in case you forgot toothpaste. It's a small park. There's a nice playground for kids, which likely gets used as there is an active campground here. Pretty large campgrounds I thought. It's right on the lake. So probably breezy lots of the time. 2375y

Beautiful place. Lots to explore. About 5 miles of hiking trails along the lake, in the woods, and across small creeks. People in RV's and yurts overlooking Lake Ontario looked at peace and happy.

I'm very upset I have to write this review because I am afraid people are going to learn about this hidden gem. It is a smaller park but it is perfect. The sites are spacious, clean, and quiet. They have electric sites, dry sites, and rentable yurts! Most sites have a view of the water which is crazy rare. There is a lighthouse in the park that you can go up and take pictures of the view. The playground for children it bran new and huge. There are two bathing facilities and both are bran new. The toilets are eco-friendly so they have two flushing modes. The showers are powerful and stay on (most parks have a button pump system). There are hiking trails as well but you have to know where you are going because they lead everywhere with a lot of enterances and exits. Definitely going here again, absolutely mine and my boyfriend's favorite park.

I've been here a few times to go camping. It's a great place if you don't need a bunch of planned activities to keep you busy like some other campgrounds have. The best place to camp is on the main front strip by the water because every night you'll get a perfect view of the sunset...and let's be honest, sunsets over the lake are extra beautiful. One great part of this campground is that they have an extensive trail system. If you're someone who likes to go for runs or take long walks this is a great place to go... But if you want to just walk around the campground you're kind of out of luck because it's pretty small. But what it lacks in size it makes up for with its cool factor! I've never been to a campground besides this one that has a lighthouse. They give tours of the house portion and let you go to the top of the lighthouse and look out over the water. There's also a pier to go out on if you want to go fishing or if you just want to set a chair out and read a book. I would recommend this place to people who don't need the entertainment portion of camping but still enjoy a nice clean bathroom.

Ask the Community - Golden Hill State Park

Is this place dog friendly?

They don't have doggy waste baskets or anything if that's what you're wondering. It is a nice place to hike with dogs though if that's what you're interested in!

We were there on a day that they were giving lighthouse tours, and opted to take the tour for $1 each.

The loops are not wide streets and it was a little tight to get out of our spot with a 28' and extended cab truck. If there were another camper parked across from us we wouldn't have been able to get out. Laundry on site and the store had tons of snacks. Past the old basketball court (across from section D) is a wandering nature trail/Maze. Staff that we interacted with were friendly and quick. Really quiet and peaceful place to stay for 2 weeks. Walmart is within 20 minutes if you need anything. Check out the Circle R farm store right down the street, too!

Plus camping is offered for people who want to make a weekend of it, a marina/boat launch, and lots of spots for fishing. Both disc golf courses are well kept with excellent signage and tee pads. They even have marks for the red tees which most courses ignore. There isn't much litter around either, which is either a testament to the park staff or a sign of how underutilized this park is. Either way, be sure to pack an extra layer of clothing in the car. We visited and the air temp a few blocks away from the park was 80 degrees. But at the park itself it was only 50. The breeze off of Lake Ontario can be very chilly!
