My son met the 42-inch height requirement and has safely enjoyed similar attractions before, yet we were still made to feel uncomfortable and singled out throughout our visit. What upset me the most was watching my son cry after getting hurt, and instead of showing concern or compassion, staff looked at him, walked away, and laughed with another coworker. As a parent, that was heartbreaking and completely unacceptable to witness. No child should ever be treated with such disregard, especially when they are visibly upset and crying. Throughout the visit, my children both older and younger were watched excessively, which made us feel targeted instead of welcomed. As a Black family, the treatment we experienced raised serious concerns about bias and discrimination. I fully understand the importance of safety rules, but rules should be enforced respectfully and equally for everyone. Families come to these facilities to feel safe and enjoy time together, not to feel humiliated, ignored, or judged. I will be contacting the district and administration for both facilities to formally report these experiences and seek accountability. I hope steps are taken to ensure no other family or child is made to feel this way again.

It looks like a Lifetime Fitness gym, but cleaner and a lot less people.

This location at the Central Park Athletics is fairly new, this used to be the Windsor Ice Rink years ago, and I have since moved back from London a few months ago and have seen the change. The building itself inside is vast and has lots of immensities for people and families of all kind, it's a no judgement area, not like a gym where all you see is buff people working out seemingly judging you. It's nice to have access to the equipment I liked to use at Goodlife for workouts, and the weight area. It's nice because it's not busy during the weekdays at all and it's a nice quiet environment to work out in. The staff are really nice and they're knowledgeable about events, and were very clear about things when I signed up. As for monthly membership fees, if you're on a fixed income or a family rate, you get a certain discount that you can afford, which I still need to sign up for because I'm still paying more than what I did at Goodlife. This facility is clean, it has a basketball court, a pool, family changing rooms as well as men and women's. Friendly staff, good working equipment, they have a weight room, cardio area is always clean and they have a disinfectant spray and cloth to wipe the equipment off when you're finished using it. What a great place to come to for a judgement free workout and a place to feel like you belong.

The DIS is a beautiful community center remodeled from a old grade school…read more The campus is nestled inside of a residential community on the west side of Detroit. The space is filled with nonprofit businesses offering much needed community resources. There is also a gym space, a renovated swimming pool area, which unfortunately no longer houses a pool, but it is now a cool rental space. There's also a convenience store, a Toarmina's Pizza, a community laundry space and a cool arcade inside. I've visited on a number of occasions as the agency I work for has remote offices in the space, offering various resources for the community. It's also a great place to network and meet other Detroiters. The parking lot is sizable and the building is managed by a great company and is secured with guards, inside and out.

This young lady WAS SOOOOOO KIND, PROFESSIONAL, and just a BREATH OF FRESH AIR, I witnessed young women coming to work as THOUGH THEY JUST ROLLED OUT OF BED and came in to work. One young woman had on a pair of plaid dirty pant THAT WAS SOOOOOOO TIGHT, if she had to pick up something that fallen on the floor she surely would have busted completely out of them. I'm sure that there is a dress code written in an Employee Handbook somewhere, but it is NOT BEING ENFORCED. I hope that I NEVER HAVE TO RETURN TO the northwest activity EVER AGAIN.

Free use of…read moreworkout machines, a gym with court games, and free swimming at an Avondale school pool are a sample of offerings. Paid benefits include a large list of classes for every age. Our family has taken advantage of most of these benefits. The soccer program is in my opinion one of the best around. Mr. Weaver coordinates the program and knows every child on the field by name. This year, we participated in the youth basketball program. Both programs were very well organized. For an additional cost, non-residents are also invited to participate in all programs and services offered by the center.

Was seeking a local gym for classes while visiting the area and came across this place not too far…read morefrom the hotel that we're staying at. So happy I did! Drop in rate is 10.00 per class. A variety of classes are offered 7 days a week but unfortunately this past Sunday's were cancelled due to some special event they had (website's schedule is up to date). To book a class is super easy; choose which class you want and it tells you how many open spots are left. You pay via credit card and receive an email confirmation. Upon arrival you just go to either of the studios where the classes are held. I booked a spin class and the instructor came up to introduce herself and asked my name and said she saw it on her roster. As for the class, it was very good and the instructor (Jill) was super nice and chatted with her a bit after. Facility is very clean and the bikes were in excellent condition. The only con is it is very hard to find as there is no signage indicating where the center is located (you see the theater upon arrival). I stopped and asked what appeared to be some city road/construction workers and one was able to give me directions. Saw the building with a huge parking lot and assumed that was it as I saw some people going in who were in workout gear and carrying gym bags. Once you initially find it you are good to go and know what/where to go.

If it should carry on the directors step in and I have seen families escorted out of the pool area just for being a nuisance. I go Tuesdays Thursdays for water areobics and on Fridays with my grand children, the pool staff look out for bullying and there can be alot, but like I said the bullies adults and children are dismissed out of the pool. Kids are their top priority and no shannonigans is allowed.

I…read morevisited the center twice within the last two weeks to get information about swimming lesson registration for my children. Unfortunately, both times the experience was unpleasant. The employees at the front desk were rude, unhelpful, and unfriendly. Today, I waited for around 15 minutes while one employee kept looking at her computer and another was on the phone. Even when I finally asked for assistance, the response and attitude were not welcoming or professional. As a city community center that serves families and residents, I believe staff should be respectful, cooperative, and willing to help people with basic questions. Instead, I left feeling upset and disappointed by how we were treated. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and works on improving customer service for families visiting the center.
