Very nice and clean swimming pool. A bit more expensive…read morethan I expected but I appreciate that they keep the pool clean and tidy.

I've been here a couple of times, once for a birthday party and once just for fun, and I honestly…read moredon't understand how this place is so highly recommended. The water slide rules are ridiculous. Kids have to meet a specific height requirement even though the water at the bottom of the slide is only about three feet deep and most kids can easily stand there. My child is short for her age but is in second grade, has been swimming since she was one, and is on a swim team. She was not allowed to go down the slide because she wasn't tall enough, yet her kindergarten friend, who could not swim, was allowed to go down even though they were basically the same height. When I tried to explain that my child is a strong swimmer, the lifeguard wouldn't budge and made her walk all the way back down the stairs in what felt like a complete walk of shame. After that, she wanted to swim in the main pool area, which is only about 3.5 feet deep, but there is a posted "no swimming" rule for that pool. Because of that rule, she wanted to go into the deeper water instead, which is only six feet deep. She was told she could not go into the deeper water unless she passed a swim test. However, they then said they could not give her the swim test because the swim instructors were not there. This made absolutely no sense, especially given her swimming ability and the fact that I was right there in the water with her as her parent. We then went to the splash pad. My child, who was three at the time, was told she was too close to the sprayer balls and got in trouble for it, even though the splash pad only has two features total. On top of that, the water was extremely cold. My toddler was shivering the entire time and couldn't even enjoy it because she wasn't allowed to stand under the water spray. That same day, we tried the lazy river. My toddler was holding onto me while we floated together. We went there specifically because the water was warmer, since her lips were literally turning blue in the regular pool. There was nobody else in the lazy river, and we were not being unsafe or disruptive in any way. Despite that, a lifeguard yelled at me for holding onto my child and told us we had to exit the river. At that point, it felt like no matter where we went, the rules were being enforced in a way that discouraged kids from playing rather than focusing on actual safety. The main pool itself is extremely underwhelming. There is one log in the middle, and only one person is allowed on it at a time, which I understand for safety reasons, but it is the only feature in the pool. One child used it the entire time we were there, and the lifeguard yelled at anyone who tried to touch it while allowing that same child to stay on it for nearly two hours. The pool is so shallow that my four-year-old can stand on the bottom, the main pool is so small that with about 6 people in it, it already feels overcrowded. The birthday party setup was just as bad. The party room is not convenient at all, despite what people say. There is no nearby bathroom, and the room itself is freezing cold. The changing rooms are down the water slide stairs and across the pool, but you are not allowed to walk to them in street clothes or shoes, which means you somehow have to change before you can even access the changing rooms. There are bathrooms upstairs, but they are nowhere near the party rooms and require walking through a maze of hallways. You freeze the entire way because you are either in a bathing suit or wet from the pool, and these bathrooms are just standard stalls, not actual changing rooms or showers. Everyone at the party complained about how far the bathrooms were from the party room. There are no changing rooms or showers near the party space, and the only real changing rooms are in the pool area, which you cannot access without already being changed. The entire setup is poorly designed and incredibly inconvenient. Overall, the rules feel inconsistent and overly strict, the layout is terrible, and the experience was frustrating for both kids and adults. Nobody in our group enjoyed it, and I would not recommend this place to others.

At least twice a year book sales are very popular, with a good selection and bag day on the Saturday.

From the South Lyon, Michigan website:…read more Witch's Hat Depot HOME RESIDENTS COMMUNITY WITCH'S HAT DEPOT Sub Menu About the Witch's Hat Depot Museum and Historic Village The Witch's Hat Depot Museum and Historic Village represents the joint efforts of the City of South Lyon, the South Lyon Area Historical Society, the South Lyon Historical Commission, local service clubs and a great number of volunteers. This community effort has resulted in a fine museum and charming, historic village that attracts many visitors, weddings and events. The Museum is open Saturday and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Special tours can be arranged by contacting the Historical Society at (248) 437-9929. The Witch's Hat Depot in Historic Village Depot The Witch's Hat Depot functions as a museum and the gathering place for the South Lyon Historical Society. It's distinctive roof line gives the building it's name: The Witch's Hat. The building was moved from the original location on East Lake Street to McHattie Park in 1976 as a bicentennial project and it now serves as the focal point for the historic village. The interior of the depot has been preserved to show what a turn-of-the-century train depot would look like. The Historical Society uses the Depot and the nearby Freight Building to store historic documents. The Depot is an excellent resource for railroad buffs or those who simply want to know more about the history of South Lyon. This website gives a more comprehensive history of the building, including its role in the state railroad system and a photo of the depot under construction in 1909 as well as a photograph of the depot in the 1970s before it was moved to its current location in McHattie Park. Historic Village Depot Caboose The caboose is fun for all, railroad buffs, children and the simply curious. It is a Chesapeake & Ohio caboose dating from 1926. The interior is furnished as much as it might have been when in daily use by the rail road workers. The caboose was moved to the museum site in 1982. Freight House Historic Village The freight house was built in 1984 to provide a much needed community meeting area as well as additional museum display areas. The basement is the museum's archive. The building design compliments the Depot. Funding for the freight house was provided by the City and the Historical Commission. In addition, all of the interior finish work was done by volunteers both amateurs and professional, making this truly a community building. It is an attractive, comfortable place to hold meetings and special events. Historic Village Washburn School Washburn School District #5 in Green Oak Township, Livingston County, was built in 1907 to replace a log school building. It served the families in the area until 1953 when the district consolidated with South Lyon Schools. The building was donated to the City of South Lyon in 1984 by the Gordon Wood Family. In the interim, it was used as a church and for a short time as a home. The City, in conjunction with the South Lyon Area Historical Society moved the schoolhouse to its present site in McHattie Park where is serves the community as part of the museum and the historic village. School children hold day-long classes in the building giving them a "one room school house" experience. The school is open for tours as part of the museum complex and is available for meetings and other community needs. Little Village Chapel in the Historic Village The Little Village Chapel is the most recent addition the Historic Village. This 1930's era "kit building" was donated to the City by the congregation of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. The building was moved in 2001 from East Liberty Street to its current site. Historic Village Gazebo The gazebo in the McHattie Park Historic Village was built in 1991 to compliment the circa 1900 village. It is used by the community for band concerts and other entertainment. It is a welcome shelter for these wanting some shade or just a comfortable place to sit while visiting the Historic Village. Recognized as a lovely setting, many wedding ceremonies have been held there. The gazebo provides a pleasant interlude on a summer afternoon. © 2016South Lyon, MI335 S.
