Pool area.

Came here for a kids bday party. Swim for an hour and then a party room for another hour. Pizza, drinks, plates, cups available, but pizza was bland. Pool has waterslide, lazy River, two lap lanes, rope swing, and rock climbing. Main pool and lap lanes are not deep. Nice set up for parties.

Regarding a fitness membership -- I would not recommend becoming a member at this location. The people working the counters are nice, and the lobby is very nice, but the positives end there. The master plan for this place was bad. The cardio and weight room are dungeons (dark, depressing, no windows). When comparing to other fitness clubs/gym memberships, the locker rooms leave much to be desired. They consist of small lockers (very cheaply made lockers that could easily be opened, even when locked, if somebody was looking to do so), showers, and toilets. No sauna/steamroom, no jacuzzi, or anything else. This is not a complaint, I'm just comparing to other clubs/memberships. The gymnasium is old/poorly maintained (also windowless and depressing). For those looking to play pick-up basketball, it is not possible at The Hawk. I've gone many times, multiple different days and times, and the most people I've ever seen playing basketball was three total (and I was one of them). I did rate 2 stars, instead of 1, as some people do appreciate the opportunity to work out when barely anybody else is around, and that's definitely the case at The Hawk. If you're looking to be around the least amount of people and work out in peace, this might be a good fit for you. In the end, this facility was a decent idea, in principle, but the execution was terrible (and there's even more to that story, but one example might be building a completely unnecessary parking lot in the outfield of the baseball field). Once again, nice enough people, very picturesque lobby, and the rest is a complete botch (when compared to other fitness clubs/gyms/etc.). As it relates to price, memberships for singles are in the low $20's a month (and cancellation requires a 30-day notice), so it's virtually the same cost as LA Fitness/Esporta (with far superior facilities/amenities/programs/etc.). Nonetheless, some may appreciate not being around the mass of people usually seen at LA/Fitness/Esporta, and if you're that kind of person (who likes working out in dungeons), then The Hawk may be worth checking out. For me, my trial period is done, and I will be moving forward somewhere else.

Awesome indoor swimming area

This place is great! What an awesome way to utilize the old high school. Nice gym equipment, a beautiful pool and splash/play area with waterslide, large auditorium, computer labs, outdoor fields...so many things for families to do. I went for a pool birthday party, and it was perfect and affordable. Lots of swim time and a private room, easy to follow signage, friendly helpful staff. If I were a parent, I'd bring my kids here every weekend, especially in the Winter. A fantastic community hub!

Went for the Ice Arena for my son's skating lessons. Good enough, not new, but well equipped and good staff.

This year with concerns over the virus and dealing with a more susceptible population of older veterans, They put together a setup for a carry-out bag lunch for veterans and spouses. We signed up and on November 6th we drove to the West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation at the Civic Center and found it to be well marked as to where we should go. We first pulled up to check in, then drove to a stop at a tent where our lunches were handed to us, then slowly drove out past a crowd of people including police and fire with their flashing lighted vehicles cheering for us. We then proceeded to the exit and went home to have our lunches which were actually very good: Turkey Club Sandwich, Macaroni Salad, Bag of Chips, Slice of Apple Pie, and a Carton of Milk. They also included a goodie bag with various items. West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation does a great job supporting veterans and seniors and this is just one example of what they do.

We managed to outpace a boyscout troop that may well have dampened our enjoyment. Very well kept trails.

For the past five years, JHS has designed a bicycle ride called J-Cycle through downtown Detroit…read more Some of the unwritten objectives, in my opinion, of the ride are to educate the public on Jewish history in the downtown area, increase physical activity, get people out from behind the typical tour bus glass, and bring suburbanites back to downtown and see the revitalization and energy in the community. They certainly succeed in all fronts. The ride is on average 15 miles meandering through the streets and neighborhoods of Detroit at a speed of 8 mph, which is almost slow enough to fall over. People who haven't ridden a bike in 15 years can still easily do this without breaking a sweat. Some people complain its to slow, but this is an educational tour, not a group ride or race. You can tell that a tremendous amount of time and effort is put into creating this ride. JHS creates a route that gets you to point A to B for approximately 10-15 stops, with educational content at each site, the volunteers throughout the whole program, the food during and after the ride, and the sponsors to help fund it. The way the ride works is that you ride in a group of about 20 riders for about 2 miles on a designated route that a group leader leads you to each stop and a docent gives about a 5-10 minute educational speech about the site. You then leave the location and ride to the next. The whole experience starts around 9am and everyone is done by 12pm'ish. It's a social educational experience for ages teenage to 70+. I'm an avid cyclist in Detroit and have done all five years and find that I learn so many things every year and it takes me to parts of Detroit I've never been to or ridden past not thinking twice about. You get to learn the rich history Detroit has to offer. So get off the couch and tour the Jewish history of Detroit.
