The inside of the restaurant is beautiful it has nice big windows at the front to let natural light in and then towards the center of the restaurant and on the ceiling are hanging plants and flowers. It is in a great location off restaurant row and it made it really easy for me to get there from the loop by taking the purple line there and brown line back. Our server Bunmi was very friendly and attentive. The food was brought out fast. We ordered the potato borak as an appetizer. We were surprised by how good it was. It sounded pretty basic but it had great flavor with a tasty dipping sauce that had hints of lemongrass and ginger. For our entrees I ordered the beef shawarma and my friend ordered the sautéed spinach and feta. Both were served warm with rice. For dessert we had the baklava pistachio cheesecake. This place is a waste of money. My friend and I sat at the bar a few days ago for a glass of wine and an app. We had a glass of red wine and the potatas, the potatas need a sauce. They come out on a huge plate so they did not skimp out on portion, but they were just that.. potatoes on a plate. We asked for a second glass of wine, meanwhile we still had about half glass left of our first glass. The bartender pour the second glass of wine into our already half filled up and charged us for two full glasses! We normally wouldn't mind but thus place is not cheap! What a waste of money! They were running Restaurant Week at the time, but since the entire table has to opt in and one of my friends didn't want to, we ordered from the regular menu instead. For mains, we tried the fattoush salad, shish tawook, spinach and feta garden, and mudardara. The fattoush salad with the sumac dressing was my favorite. I was very keen on trying mudardara, which is a Middle Eastern lentil and rice dish topped with salad. It was something different that I tried for the first time, and I liked it. The spinach and feta dish was a bit too tangy for my taste, but my friends enjoyed it. The shish tawook came with a side of rice and was slightly dry for my palate. Overall, I really liked this restaurant. I loved the playlist they were playin..For dessert, we tried the toffee date cake with a scoop of ice cream and it was absolutely delicious. This was also the first night of Chicago restaurant week and all the courses were delicious and huge portions. We all had leftovers to take home, which was fantastic. We visited on a Thursday night so it wasn't very busy and eventually had the restaurant to ourself. First off, Medi is super aesthetic I'm surprised the Chicago Foodie Influencers haven't blown this place up on TikTok yet. We ordered the baba ganoush, hummus, dolma and shrimp harra to start. The baba ganoush was smoky and a table favorite! The dolma was on the acidic side and very lemony so for those who aren't fans of sour, I would not recommend. HOWEVER, I'm Filipino and it reminded me of Sinigang so I personally loved it! I'd go back just for the dolma, it was my personal favorite of the night. The Shrimp appetizer was also really good. Texturally fun and had a good spice kick to it. For drinks I ordered the Habibi one more time and it was amazing! On the sweeter side and you could def taste the lychee, the main reason why I ordered the drink. The beef kafta was a huge portion! I loved the side of fresh cucumber and tomato on the side. It really balanced out the dish. The rice and beef was also flavorful with a good mix of spice and fresh herbs. Came here for a very large party (30ish people- reservations were made in advance). Our party made up over half of the restaurant on a random weeknight, and the staff/chefs/bartenders were very overwhelmed. I think that coordinating with the guest who makes a reservation could've gone a long way for their service load and the overall guest experience (i.e.: a set/pre-fix menu). Everything from the food and drinks to the service to the ambiance was perfect for our triple date. I tried the falafel, baba ghanoush, jajik, fattoush salad, and shish tawook. The flavors and textures were all spot on. Our server accommodated us by providing 1 extra falafel as there were 6 of us and the dish normally comes with 5 falafels. One critique I have is that the shish tawook doesn't come with any veggies - they are an additional cost. However, the grilled veggies were awesome. Everyone loved their cocktails as well. Large chandeliers, neon lights, floral wall, and huge pictures of Biggie, Tupac and others. The service here was fast and effective. I was dining alone so did not have the opportunity to connect personally with my service. However, the service was still attentive. For food I ordered: Potato Borak which is a deep fried potato started. The chipotle dipping sauce is what elevated this dish adding bold spice and flavor! Shawerma: Skirt steak which was delicately slices and seasoned to perfection. This was definitely a menu highlight. Served with rice, onions, cucumber and tomato salad. I topped my meal off with the garlic sauce which really additional garlic flavor which paired well with the steak. For drink I had the Fairouz which was tequila, passion fruit and lime. Brunch at MEDI was such a fun experience . Located in North Ave, Medi is a beautiful Mediterranean restaurant serving Mediterranean food and drinks. I absolute loved the decor and vibe of this place. The host and server were so friendly and welcoming. We went on Sunday and were able to chose from both the lunch and brunch menu. We started with the Medi Cocktail and Arabian coffee. If you have never had Arabian coffee before, I highly recommend trying. It's light, flavorful and aromatic. The Medi cocktail was also refreshing and fun. We then tried the Jajik and Ful. Both the dips were excellent and went well with the pita bread. I like that the pita bread was not thick but thin and light. We then tried the Shish Tawook and Shawerma. I am obsessed with how good the Shish Tawook was, the chicken was perfectly grilled and so tender and moist. The rice accompanying it was also so delicious. The shawarma (beef steak) was also really good. Finally we ended our wonderful brunch with something sweet. The Baklava Cinnamon French Toast was the star dish, it was not overly sweet and tasted amazing. After reading reviews about Medi I was very excited to try it but unfortunately, it was not what I expected at all. The ambiance would be nice for a girl's brunch but was not as exciting for dinner. I booked a reservation and there was no wait which was good, but the service was not the best. We waited for a good 15 minutes after we sat down to get introduced to a server who then took our drinks and apps despite there not being a lot of people there when we sat down. The drinks took a while and it seemed to the point where the table next to us got up and went to the bar to ask where their drinks were. The food came out pretty quickly but was mid at best. I got the Kafta which was extremely underwhelming compared to other places I have had it, and my boyfriend got the chicken shawerma (how it was spelled on the menu) which was also underwhelming. After we ate, we waited for the bill which took another 20 minutes since the waitresses were all sitting at the bar drinking wine and hanging out.
