I'm not a utopian transit wacko who thinks it's plausible to ban cars on the Tappan Zee and of course New Bedford isn't New York but SRTA needs to do better. If I want to be an optimist I can say I enjoyed the scenic walk across the bridge as well as the excellent conversation about food with a Lyft driver. The buses that did exist were generally reliable and drivers were friendly and helpful. And of course I'm grateful that I got there just before the temporary free fare program ended. Tourism/geography notes: the bus can get to you to the scenic Fort Taber area. I stayed in Fairhaven and took the bus to/from downtown several times. It's somewhat indirect, presumably to avoid the bridge that opens for boats, but is listed at a relatively brisk 16 minutes.

Yes We Van was great! They transported us to and from the Seastreak fast ferry in New Bedford for…read moreour day trip to Martha's vineyard. They were on time, clean, friendly and COVID safe! They had a plastic barrier set up between the driver and passengers and the driver wore a mask the whole time. They also provided us with a tourist packet full of fun things to do on the island, which was amazing, because we were just going to wing it. We ended up following their self guided tour instructions and it was actually a lot of fun and easy to do. We even called the owner for directions getting back to the ferry at the end of the day so we didn't miss it lol. Anyways. Highly recommended family business. Thanks again! My son takes this bus when he comes home from school from Boston. He catches it at the Mt…read more Pleasant stop. One time, the bus never even showed up. The bus left the Sycamore Street station and headed right straight to Boston. Didn't even stop and there were about 6 other people waiting there too. I only found out about this by calling dispatch. Who runs a bus company and avoids stops because they forget or don't feel like stopping? I sent an email the next day and have not heard back from them to this day. Poor customer service. The bus drivers can be cranky too. You better be able to lug your bags yourself under that bus, because there is no guarantee that he/she will help you with that. Since they are the only bus company in the city that goes to Boston, I guess we're stuck with this. I do hope the train comes to this area and then we can say bye bye to Dattco.

The bus is never on time. If the schedule says the bus comes for 7:10. It won't show up till at…read moreleast 7:20 sometimes later. The 9:10 am bus is super slow. Driver seems afraid to do 65-60mph. Hov lane is missed 99% of the time because we end up there late at 10:03-10:10. If the bus would show up on time then we would be in the hov lane in the morning. That's what $320 a month get you. Also you won't make it to work when one of the drivers calls out sick because dattco can't create a contingency plan. POOR!

DON'T BELIEVE the sign that says the ferry operates from 8 am to 6 pm. There was no one and no ferry in sight when we arrived at the dock. upon checking their website and Facebook page, we found the ferry was closed and hadn't posted any updates since fall of 2021. Menemsha is a pretty spot to visit, but this detour added several miles to what was already a long bike ride to Gay Head. Review updated June 16 ============= I got this message from Menemsha Bike Ferry in response to a Facebook message I sent them... "My apologies... the winter closed sign has apparently gone missing... Glad to see the sign is noticed, but know that we will start Sat - Sun weekend service this weekend and likewise next to open seven days starting the 1st of July. Again, sorry for the extra miles to the dead end..albeit a nice place to be when chosen...!" They just added this update for 2022 on their Facebook page. "2022 OPERATIONS We will splash bike ferry for service Sat - Sun June 18 - 19....9a.m. To 5 p.m. that weekend service will run the following weekend of the 25th and 26th as well..... 7 day service will begin Friday July 1st..." At least part of the blame for our bad experience belongs to Google Maps which recommended the route to Gay Head via the Menemsha Ferry which was not in service. No problems with internet connectivity and drinks are available on board to make the trips even better. HIGHLY recommended to take this boat trip even if you don't have a reason to go to Boston.
