I had the most wonderful experience at Meche Organic Salon! I haven't been to a hair salon in years and Kim made me comfortable through the whole process. She was very friendly and helpful. She is also very knowledgeable and was able to give me recommendations on what would work best for me. I also get the sense that she is after caring for her clients more than the money. For example I asked her what hair color she thinks will work best for me and she suggested some options but then told me that she actually likes my current hair color and that it seems to be working fine for me. Guess I'll add my "THANKS, Kim!!!" to the mix. Thanks for fun, wonderful hair... and a really enjoyable couple hours during the transformation. Kim's Meche Organic Salon is a neat little place. In the larger Grapevine salon, Meche has its own serene, big-windowed room. Add nice music, scented towels, tons of good reading for your under-the-dryer time, and Kim, and that's a nice environment! I wanted to color my hair (for the first time in years), and have a cut with a lot more "fun" in it - take off a few inches, add swoopy side bangs, more vavoom etc. I told Kim I was interested in a darker, warmer, more vibrant color. She showed me some great options, weighed in on how each would look with my eye and skin color, and then encouraged me to choose (and stick with) the color we were both initially drawn to. Sometimes you need your stylist to weigh in like that. The color and the cut turned out gorgeous!! Since my hair is pretty fine, she used a razor instead of scissors, which added tons of texture and movement. The organic products (shampoo & conditioner, dye) are wonderful. No harsh smells, no tingly scalp, etc. Just rich color and beautiful shine. Also, I really enjoyed the time spent talking with Kim. We talked about Seattle, Austin, food, New Orleans, runaway home renovation, behavior problem dogs we adore, quirky family, etc. (I know of another Austin stylist who gives great cuts, but there is such a deep chasm between our interests I'd go in prepared for an hour of seriously awkward small talk. For years, I would go to get my hair cut and then hate the way that they styled it! I have wavy hair and enjoy letting it be a little wild and free. When I would go to get it cut, they would want to blow dry it straight and I would end up looking like a soccer mom or something (no offense to soccer moms!). I found Meche Organic Salon by searching on Google local organic salons, as I had just moved to the area and didn't know any of the local hairdressers. Seeing good online reviews and the salon being a reasonable driving distance, I called Kim to chat about possibly making an appointment. She immediately struck me as a caring and with-it stylist who is concerned about my happiness with any outcome. This was my first time coloring my hair from natural blonde to dark auburn, and she spent time talking on the phone with me about the approach, her products, and how we wouldn't want to rush the appointment to make sure we got it just right. I then scheduled the appointment and she was very accommodating of my busy schedule- we found the perfect Sunday evening. Upon first meeting I found Kim to be just as personable, professional and knowledgeable as I expected from our brief phone call. She took the time to pick out the right color combination and volume for my hair, and it turned out great without even a drop of coloring on my forehead or ears - all while holding great conversation, not just small talk. The color was just a little too dark since we both decided to air on the side of caution with more brown than red, and she promptly asked me to return so that she could guarantee her work (no extra charge). I came back the next week and we hit the nail on the head, since now working with the darker base we could achieve exactly what I was looking for. Over the past few years, I've been experiencing an ongoing hair identity crisis. Ushered in by the "ombre" craze, I decided that by growing out my roots, I could save money AND be fashionable. Win-win, right? Well, despite many attempts, the ombre just didn't work for me. Usually, I get dozens of compliments on my hair, but in recent years, these compliments have been noticeably absent. And I realized it was time to face facts-- I want, I NEED my blond hair back. I haven't been able to find a colorist that I love (whether or not it's due to the colorist or my unwavering commitment to the ombre is unclear), so I turned to Groupon. Usually I'm happy to pay a premium for a great haircut and color, but was sick of paying hundreds of dollars to try a new colorist. That's where i found Kim. After reading the sterling reviews, I decided to give her a shot. I tend to be an extremist, and was looking to get as far away from my tired ombre as possible. I was ready to go, like, really blond. Upon my arrival, I proudly brandished a picture of a platinum blond movie star. "I want that hair", I excitedly exclaimed. Kim quickly quelled my pipe dreams, explaining that I would need a full color plus highlights to do such a thing, and would have to get it touched up every 3-4 weeks. This working gal' ain't got time for that. We met in the middle with a partial highlight. She was very unpretentious and didn't try to up-sell me; rather she steered me away from an expensive and drastic dye job. With her guidance, I opted for a much more natural and low maintenance look that was just blond enough. Sayonara, ombre! Well, I am a happy to say, I LOVE my new hair. Kim is such a nice and personable lady!! I went to her after seeing she had a Groupon available. I'm a very poor college student so I try to find the deals when I can, but I also have been looking for a regular person to do my hair for a while now. I'm so sick of bouncing around from salon to salon and being unhappy with the end result. I figured the Groupon was a good way to test the waters with someone new. Well, I think I finally found someone that I can stick with!! Kim did an awesome job... I went in with very long and VERY damaged hair and she took off the perfect amount to keep my length (I hate it when hair dressers take it too short, it happens almost every time).
