Tonight it was the Mean Queen for pizza during our stay in Sitka. Pizza, salad and beer. It was great. Wedge salad loaded with bacon, tomatoes, red onion and fresh lettuce. Perfectly dressed with the right amount of blue cheese dressing. Think crust pizza was good, wold have been great/out of this world if I would have asked the server to make it crispy. Definitely a Sitka must visit. read more

Nice little pizza spot- open later than many of the restaurants in Sitka. Love that you can "make your own pizza"- as someone who is lactose free, being able to put feta on my pizza was a wonderful change that gave me more options! read more

Cool scene, and a fine beer list. It was great that they had local beer on tap. Our salads were good but the pizza was burnt (more than a normal wood oven hint of burnt) and very, very hard to chew. I'm from here and used to high food prices, but I can't justify going back for the pizza. I'll probably stick with a salad. They would do well to add more appetizers to the menu. read more

I don't know, did this place hire a new pizza cook? Our large party came in on a slow night and were seated immediately. The wait staff was friendly and accomodating, but it seemed to take a while to get drinks. We ordered a few half portions of the salads and they were very generous servings especially considering they were only half portions. The 6 pizzas we ordered were over done and black around the edges. They were thin crust, but ridiculously thin crusted to the point of being tasteless burnt cardboard. We had a couple members of our party sit at the bar and they paid for their drinks even though the staff was aware the table was going to be paying for everything. I'll believe all the glowing reviews this place has, but we really must have come on a bad day because the pizzas were incredibly disappointing and a nice staff can't make up for that. read more

The "Princess" was a pizza that I'll dream about for days to come. I wish I that could have a pizza where each slice was a different style of pizza from the Mean Queen because every option on the menu had me drooling. Not only that but the service was top notch, the bartenders were so friendly and accommodating. I was thankful for the variety of entertainment and enjoyed bantering over my $3 PBR (plenty of other beer options available, scotch too!). The atmosphere was welcoming for a range of age groups, I would be happy to come back with both friends or family. Definitely check this place out, they saved our hungry stomachs by being open late, even on a Tuesday. read more

A great place to grab some really decent food and a beer. A local beer is always on special for $4 a pint and the food is always hot and fresh and very very tasty. Grab a big salad to split for the group and enjoy the FREE FAST WI-FI to download all of the days fishing pics while you wait for your food. read more

Two lunches in Sitka and we had both of them at Mean Queen. Salads are amazingly fresh. Pizza (thin crust) was delicious and the wings were also really good! Patrick makes the best lemon drop in the great state of Alaska (Sorry, Sullivan's in ANC!). He also makes a mean Velvet Throne. The music and the view made both our afternoons really awesome. This is one of two Mean Queen locations and their specialties are pizza and wings. We had both and they were outstanding. The wings are traditional style and the buffalo sauce was good and spicy but not over the top. We had two pizzas and both were very good. The crust was crispy and the topics very tasty. The beer came our cold and the server made sure we got a pitcher instead of glasses to save us money. read more

Really enjoyed the new pizza place in town. They are setting the bar pretty high with their homemade wood-fired(?) pizzas and great beer selection. Very late hours. It's upstairs in the old Van Winkles. I look forward to eating here again very soon. read more

Service was top-notch! Atmosphere was okay. No privacy, it's all an open space. You can barely have conversations here with all the yelling of other tables. The pizza was good, the wings were good. The prices are a little steep considering what you get. The salad size does not compensate the price unless you're only getting salad. All in all, good for large groups of 5, or if you like yelling. I wouldn't take your significant other here unless you're on a casual date with minimal conversation. read more

If you want an awesome sports bar with a great atmosphere, great pizza, and great drinks, this is the place for you. Most of the staff is fantastic. Mirla, Stephanie, Riley, all awesome and attentive. The bartenders leave much to be desired, however. Carmen, (I think that was her name, I believe she was the manager and bartender), basically hates all military. She was rude, hateful, and rolled her eyes everytime a military member asked to buy a drink. Sitka is somewhat of a military town and over Alaska days there are boatloads of extra military members in town for the events of the day. The place was packed and there were people everywhere, but they're paying customers who serve for your freedom to roll your eyes, huff, and be pissy about serving military members. Basically, she hates freedom, America, those that serve it seems. The other bartender.... Oh this man. I didn't catch a name, but he looked like a skinny version of bob ross. Awesome curly, poofy hair. I don't understand the issue that we had with him exactly, but he cut my spouse off after ONE beer for asking why it was taking 30 minutes to make my drink. I had ordered the same drink twice before this. My spouse asked for it one.... waited 10 minutes... asked again...waited another 10 minutes... asked a 3rd time (trying to be cognizant of how busy it was) and he said: "I don't have any egg so I can't make your drink!" My husband: "What is the egg for?" "If you don't know how to make a F***ing amaretto sour then maybe you shouldn't order it" "Whoa, please stop cussing at me!" "No, you're f**ing cut off. I'm not serving you anymore!" At this point, I pop over because I see the exchange and ask what's going on politely trying to de-escalate. He said that he would serve me, but that my spouse was cut off. He stated that he couldn't make my amaretto sour. I said no problem, we paid our tab and left... over angry bob ross and egg whites? Still confused at how it went from buying a beer to getting cut off. Now, backstory, amaretto sour is the ONLY drink I drink at places like this. I've drank it for almost 10 years and NEVER have I had a bartender make it with egg white. I googled it, as any normal person would, and apparently, it's the old fashion, fancy way to make it. Cool beans... But that's not super common knowledge. Mean Queen isn't really that fancy anyway. It's basically a sports bar.. that doesn't denote a fancy business. We tried to talk to Carmen and ask why my spouse was cut off, but she wouldn't talk to us because... you guessed it... military. So basically, if you want to get cut off after one beer, and eat amazing pizza in an anti-American environment... this is your place. read more

Loved this place. Reasonably priced beers, fantastic caesar salad and great pizza. It was also nice to unwind after a day on the boat with a beer and a little pre-season football. Can't go wrong at the Mean Queen, this place was always packed when I was there. read more

During an August cruise, we stopped in for a beer. Our bartender Kim was awesome! She made me the drink special in which she added Spruce Tip syrup that she had made from Sitka Spruce tips she had picked and processed. She also gave us a sample of Pickled Beach Asparagus! She was so very friendly and informative about the ingredients in drinks, but also about Sitka in general. My husband had picked the fruit of a plant and she not only identified it as Rose Hips, but told us it was edible and gave us a knife and plate so we could cut it open and try it. Very good thin crust pizza in a fun, not-touristy atmosphere. We went with a build-your-own rather than one of their Russian royalty themed specialty pies, and it was tasty enough that we finished it in one sitting. The cocktails were a little sweet for us, but good. read more
