Such a beautiful theater in downtown Rochester. I prefer…read moresitting up in the balcony section, great views and that ceiling with the stunning chandelier! Just enjoyed seeing the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra here with special guest Shellea sing Aretha Franklin music. * Built by industrialist and philanthropist George Eastman (founder of Eastman Kodak Company) as a center for music, dance, and silent film with orchestral and organ accompaniment. * The main auditorium was formally renamed Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre following major renovations completed in 2009. * Historically hosted legendary artists, conductors, and composers such as Igor Stravinsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Leonard Bernstein, and John Williams, as well as a historic visit from Sir Winston Churchill * Serves as the primary home for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the larger ensembles of the Eastman School of Music (orchestras, jazz ensembles, and chorales). * Acts as a flagship venue for major cultural events like the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival.

Eastman School of Music is a place you should experience at least once. The building is beautiful,…read moreand the acoustics are truly excellent. That said, there are a few things the venue could improve. Signage for entry is minimal we found ourselves waiting outside in the rain, hoping someone would pass by to point us in the right direction. Once inside, there was some confusion at Will Call, as staff initially couldn't locate our tickets. This was eventually resolved, but the process was a bit frustrating after already dealing with the weather and unclear entry. Something I was not expecting was a three floor walk up....While I managed fine, it's worth noting there doesn't appear to be an elevator, which could be challenging for anyone with mobility concerns. If I'm wrong let me know. A highlight of the evening was the opportunity to meet members of the Silkroad Ensemble, including Artistic Director Rhiannon Giddens. Very cool! These are world class musicians Grammy winners, Pulitzer Prize recipients, and Juilliard-trained artists--and the music, representing cultures from around the world, came together beautifully. It actually reminded me of a radio station I used to listen to in Chicago called "World Beat." On WBEZ or something.... One minor note: the seating could be more comfortable, and a bit more legroom would go a long way. Overall, it was a lovely experience and glad I finally got to visit this venue and it won't be my last. Parking is available via street parking or nearby lots.

The String House - The String House

We've never had such great customer service. Kind, professional, a huge selection and great deals…read more- they always help us find what they need and recently went above and beyond to help compensate us for a broken bow - something they did NOT have to do. We've purchased violins/bows/cases and cello bows there and every time we go it's such a great experience. Cannot recommend highly enough. My kids love going there, and we know the String House is always going to help us.

I remember String House decades ago when I used to play so I knew they were reputable. They also carried the book and CD that we needed to purchase. Look for the white house with the bright red door on Monroe Ave. Parking is in the back. It was a short wait while they finished with other customers. The rental process was easy and quick. My daughter was already measured, but the associate did a quick double check and tuned the violin. It came with the basics - violin, bow, case, rosin, and a nametag. The price includes insurance and repairs during the rental period, which is a school year or 12 months. We didn't have to buy a shoulder rest because sponges usually work fine for the little ones, but it fit her well so we bought one, in her favorite color pink. Seamless rental process and so beautiful to see the instruments displayed all along the ceiling. It was nostalgic!

In all of the Rochester area I have only found the following there: Friendly, helpful, honest treatment. They make you feel like you are the only important thing while you're there. Jimmie Jam and his staff are top notch in fitting you or your children to a correct instrument and lesson schedule with highly competent Instructors! I have found their prices to be very comparable, if not less than other musical sources and their knowledge will help you choose exactly the correct item(s) for your specific needs. Also, let me say that since I picked up the Clarinet again (at the age of 74), I have been taking lessons with them for a year now. The highly competent Instructors (who are all accomplished musicians in their own right) form an easy rapport with the students, and give more than just a "lesson", they actually teach the instrument, along with the theory (which is indispensable when learning any instrument). You could not get me to change Instructors or Stores for any amount of money. I highly recommend the American Music Centre as a music source to all of you. You will not be disappointed!

The Las Vegas store is so large, it's hard to walk out without finding what you want and/or need…read more If they don't have it you can find it online! The best value, in my opinion is the wide array of used instruments and equipment! For example, I picked up a Fender Mustang GT100 for about 2/3 the cost of a new one! This amp is beautiful! The perfect jam amp and practically brand new! I grabbed a lower end used Schecter! Perfect beater guitar and some accessories to go with the amp and guitar; All used of course! Truthfully, the only other way to grab these kind of deals is Craig's List, but beware. You won't get the option to return the instrument if it doesn't meet your needs or expectations. Regardless, just going there and playing everything is super fun! Unfortunately, for my bank account anyway, I'll be back! Just a quick FYI! I was told that the guitar center in Hollywood is the very first, is huge and was Charlie Chaplin's movie theater. Can't wait to see it!

As my Guitar Center gently weeps, I find myself writing a negative review for this place…read more Located in Rochester, despite the prices and issues, at least this location has never screwed me over to the extremely aggressive and unfriendly degree that the one in Amherst NY did. I'll never forget the way they treated me up there. There are some creepy similarities here, and I worry that if I bought the same volume of equipment I'd end up with the same awful experience. Some of the associates (at most locations) would say anything to sell you this stuff and then once you get it, everything changes. Oh we never said that. Oh you misunderstood. Oh no it's not meant to do that. Oh we're not responsible for that breaking. Some shady and really bad people. On the other hand the people down here are better than the Buffalo staff, not saying much though. My experiences here have been more positive, but I'd still rather go to a local music shop.
