My 2016 Ford F350 was displaying a message that read "Exhaust Filter Over Limit Service Now." When the truck tried to do the automatic regeneration, it was unable to clean the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The engine was also being throttled, so the performance was severely degraded. I had not previously brought any vehicles to MDS, but a friend told me about it, so I decided to give it a try. I dropped the truck off on a Wednesday so they could take a look at it the next day. On Thursday, Wayne called and told me the "cold side CAC pipe had failed, which resulted in a massive boost leak, which in turn plugged the DPF because of excessive soot." As a result of this type of failure, Wayne also recommended an oil & filter change, to which I agreed. After the failed pipe was replaced, a manual regeneration of the DPF was done. In addition to the aforementioned work, they also replaced the fuel filter and the air filter. The truck was ready to pickup on Friday. When I took it for a post-service test drive, everything was back to normal. Overall, I was very pleased with the service, and will be a regular customer for my future diesel service needs. The added bonus was that I didn't have to drive all the way down to the dealer service center in Kearny Mesa. read more

I drove 40 miles from my home to this small town shop with big time customer service. Friendly staff that listens to your issues to ensure first time repair. I commend Wayne and his techs, they quickly got my 2016 Ram 3500 running correctly and back on the road after replacing the failed turbo that is notorious on these trucks. I sourced the turbo and paid a more than fair labor rate to have my service done. Unlike the local stealership that quoted me almost $9,000.00. Highly recommend these folks! read more

My dog and I are senior citizens and we arrived at MDS at 5:15pm on a Friday afternoon. I had just driven many miles having catastrophic failures with my diesel RV. I needed help! One of their mechanics diagnosed the problem and ordered the parts needed. The parts arrived the next morning and with their hard work I was back on the road before noon the next day!! Friday I showed up with a couple of issues that Rob addressed as only someone with his expertise can and then found I needed a new water pump, tensioner and a few other things. But I needed to drive to Denver Sunday morning. He and Wayne got it done by spending most of Saturday getting it road ready. She ran strong, made it through and ice storm in Grand Junction (6 hour delay and I got to test my 4WD traversing the center median :-) and used the time to get new tires) and over the Vail Pass (15 minutes before it closed again for 18 hours - still closed) and arrived Denver 1930 MT Monday night. OK everybody, this is the best place to have your diesel work done by far in San Diego ! It all started for me when I bought my 1996 Dodge . My truck was parked in numerous shops in town before I found MDS. Chris and his talented crew turned my poorly running tired old truck into a totally Bad Ass rig. My engine had a burnt cylinder and it was mated to an auto trans that I was less than happy with. Instead of pushing me into some easy money for them, Chris told me about the many options I had and sent me home to do some thinking about what I really wanted out of my truck. I told him I tow 20K consistently and I want fuel milage and power. We installed a rebuilt engine, converted to a 5 speed manual trans and upgraded most parts on the engine and Wow what a difference ! When you do this many changes on a vehicle there are going to be challenging moments for both parties and we had our share which brings me to the main reasons that I'm taking the time to write this review,(the first one I have ever written). Throughout my whole experience with MDS Diesel I felt respected and comfortable . There is a genuine camaraderie amongst employees in this shop and you get the feeling that the customer really does come first. Once I had a problem with a ride back to my home in Point Loma and Wayne went way beyond the call of duty and gave me a ride home after he worked all day , and he lives in east county ! Chris offered a loaner truck on a couple other instances and he even found a buyer for my used automatic trans ! I know there are a lot of apostrophes in this but it is really how I feel !!!! Our diesel RV got a leak in the coolant hose. We noticed a leak while parked/camping. Called MDS diesel,they saw us the same day (a holiday). They spliced/patched the hose so we could get to our camp spot, then we returned the next day for the repair. Everyone was super great, friendly, knowledgable and extremely efficient. We were back on vacation in a flash. We would highly recommend this shop. read more
