I started the program because ive wanted to have more work in the phlebotomy aspect as an MA, so i took the course which was like two wks in total. After going to my clinic site i had very few patients to work with!! After finishing the internship i had to email Rose smalls several times in order to receive my certification of completion!! And i was never informed that I had to gather all documents and mail them at my expense,which i taught i paid for along w the course and so i waited 6 PLUS MONTHS AND NO RESPONSE FORM ROSE) so whatever I finally get my papers i do it myself and send it to the state they then respond 2 months later stating that MD mobile labs inc IS NOT an approved training site!!! BEWARE~STAY AWAY~CAUTION~ WALK AWAY WHEN YOU HEAR THE NAME ROSE SMALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I decided to take my phlebotomy course with this institution because people i know have done theirs here and for the price i mean why not? Right? MAN, I wish i would have just payed an extra $500 to take it elsewhere!! I decided to take the course because i had a job offer at UCLA and i needed to get my phlebotomy in order to take the job (the position was being held for me) I took the course in MARCH which went pretty smooth, instructor was pretty knowledgeable and working in the medical field for 5 years i feel like i learned a lot from her. I took my test and passed it the first time. I submitted ALL the forms to the state and while waiting for my license i get a notification that one of the forms was wrong. I immediately notified ROSE SMALLS and she was helpful at trying to get me the form...WELL that all went down hill!! It literally took her 5 MONTHS to give me the form that i needed. Keep in mind the form i needed was just a form basically saying that i took the course with them!! THAT WAS IT, SO SIMPLE!!! Rose gave me the run around, she would tell me that she was on her way to pick up the form in riverside and she would let me know when i can pick it up then 2 days later she would tell me that she didnt have it. I mean how unprofessional was that. I would constantly call and text her and she would ignore me. She was so fast to collect the money for the course but when I really needed from her she was in hiding. This was taking so long that I lost the job opportunity because they could no longer hold the position for me with UCLA!! At this point i was so frustrated, I have never suffered from anxiety but god knows i was at that point. I was referred by a friend to take the phlebotomy course at Health Career Specialists. I called Rose and she explained what consisted in the CPT1 course including the price and the available course dates. What a helpful courteous woman. When I finally took the course I learned so much! The instructor was very knowledgeable, she made me feel comfortable with drawing blood. I passed the test first try, submitted all paperwork to the state as told by Rose, paid the license fee and had my license in weeks!!! Thank you Health Career Specialists!! read more

This institution has poor communication and organization when it comes to the students. Once you are done with the course they lack interest in helping you continue the process of applying to the state for a California license. Definitely No Refunds in anything. Clinical Equipment is old. Completely strict; look for yourself at their agreement section on their handbook before signing up!! read more

Zero stars really needs to be an option. I cant believe it's taken me this long to write a review of this place. A couple years ago I took a phlebotomy course here. My initial visit and interview with the "schools" representative (Rose Smalls) was nice. She was very warm and I felt comfortable and I opted to pay the deposit right then and there as I felt so at ease. (Her demeanor and that warmth changed completely, once I passed the class and she no longer had to "butter me up" for my business.) The course itself was ok, the issue I had was, that as a student I felt cheated that they would only have us do ONE blood draw on an actual person (because there was no time to do more) before they sent us off to do a clinical internship! Imagine going to an actual clinic and having to get practice on actual patients after only having done ONE other draw in class. I can't even begin to tell you the level of stress I felt. Oh but it gets better. This is where the LOVELY (drips with sarcasm) Rose Smalls comes in. First off, she only scheduled me for a total of 35 hours of internship when 40 hours are required. I brought this to her attention and she emailed me back (and I quote) "As long as the clinic signs off on your state forms you are fine." So not only was I being sent without ANY experience to this internship but they were short changing me 5 hours! The small clinic where I went to do my clinical, told me right off the bat that they didn't foresee them getting a lot of patient traffic, not enough for me to get all the draws I needed in order for me to complete what the state requires. They suggested I go to another nearby clinic to continue my training as the other school had more patients coming in. I contacted Rose Smalls to let her know what I'd been told, she said per the contract I signed I was to stay at the clinic I agreed upon to complete my internship as she wouldn't transfer me. I reiterated again that the clinic really thought it would be best for me to go elsewhere, and this woman (Rose) says to me so are u saying the are kicking you out? (I mean is the broad dense or what?!?!) after a bit more back and forth with her, I realized she was going to be no help to me and I had to stick it out. Not only did I not get all the draws I needed per STATE requirement but I only got like 10 draws my entire internship, and the clinic just signed off on all of the required draws in order for me just to complete. (Um, fraud anyone?) Needless to say I was completely inexperienced leaving there and felt 100% not prepared to go and "look for a career" in the phlebotomy world. How could I go looking for a job when any professional would clearly see that I didn't know what the hell I was doing due to the lack of training Id received at HCS! It was a waste of money all around and Rose Smalls lack of care once she received payment was truly an experience I never want to go through again. Maybe things have changed now, hopefully she's no longer working there but if you see the name ROSE SMALLS as a contact person for this "school", RUN, don't walk the other way!!!! read more

I took this course back in 2015 back when it was still HCS. I see Rose Smalls is still in charge of this place. Rose was very friendly over the phone when I called to get more information about their CPT 1 course. She asked me to come in in person and she'd gladly show me the class and explain to me better in person. She basically told me everything I wanted to hear and I was sold. I pre-paid for my class and was set to start and I was even given an emergency contact number for the facility. The course was two weeks long and my instructor was very kind and knowledgeable. I cant for the life of me remember her name. But she was super cool! The last day of the week we practiced on a dummy arm. I remember we got to stick our classmates ONCE. I failed my stick and my instructor allowed me to practice on her until I successfully got the vein. Once the week was up, the following week was used to practice for the national exam. Then that Saturday was our actual test. I passed my exam and was good to go onto the next step which was my externship. This is where shit really started to hit the fan and Rose exposed her true colors. I passed my exam and my instructor congratulated me and I was out. I was told to wait for an email for an externship. I religiously checked my email for the information and I got nothing for a few weeks. I finally emailed Rose and no response, I called the facility and nobody answered. I called the emergency contact number and nobody got back to me. When I showed up to speak to Rose she had already left and there was a guy in charge who said he couldn't do anything and that I would have to either call when Rose was there or come back when she was there. Livid, I waited two more weeks for her to email me back and nothing. I had had enough. I called the emergency contact number I was given and was asked to leave a voicemail. Well let me just say I threatened to take legal action against them. I mentioned that I was done talking. I as a consumer paid for a service that hasn't been completed. If they wished to speak to me they could speak to me through my lawyer. Funny how no more than 5 min after I left that voicemail I started getting messages and emails. I received a text from the emergency contact number which said that Rose had already left for the day and that they will for sure contact me. I called the number and a lady answered. She got snippy with me and I went off on her and again threatened a lawsuit. She ended up getting scared and gave me Rose personal cell phone number and asked me to never contact that number ever again. I couldn't have given two fucks. I paid for the class give me my shit. I called Rose and was very upset. I gave her a piece of my mind and that I was done playing cat and mice with them. If they're not gonna give me what I paid for then give me my money back or I'd be taking legal action against her. She asked who had given me her number and I told her it was irrelevant either give me my place of externship or give me my damn money back. She apologized and asked if she could call me back in a few minutes to make a call to a location for me. I told her if she didnt call me back, she'd be getting a call from my lawyer. She conveniently was able to get me a place to do my hours. She was very upset with me but again, I did not care. The location they sent me to was shady and ghetto as fuck. The kicker was that these people they sent me to had no fucking idea what they were doing. Their order of draw was wrong! Everything they did was wrong including mislabeling a specimen and slapping on a random patient label on it (stunned). I was thrown into the field with literally no experience. Thankfully my instructors technique was engraved in my head and I was about to draw 98% of the patients I was given. When I finished my hours, Rose emailed me instructions to get my license in the mail. I ended up going to the school so they could help me. Rose wasn't there and it was my old instructor. She was very sweet! I could give her 5 stars! But it averages out to about 2 because that's how bad this place was! I got my license about one to two months after my externship was over. It was hard to get a job though! I work as a phlebotomist now but it was a mission! Don't let these fools toss you around. Speak up! Its your money after all! read more
