    Adkins Mobile Mechanics

I put in a diagnostic request for my mother in law's 2009 Kia Rondo. She doesn't have much money,…read moreso I was hoping to try and save her some money. I had to have a tow truck it to her address due to it not wanting to start in Park, I found out though that the shifter was very stiff as well and would only move when I used the bypass button. I couldn't get it to start but the tow truck driver showed me that it would start in neutral using the bypass switch and shift into gear but when in park it would still move. So, we didn't want to risk driving it to her house and so we had it towed. The tow truck driver said any mechanic should be able to fix that for you with no problem. So, I called Adkins that evening, and he diagnosed it the next day. He said, he tore the whole console apart, even tested the neutral safety switch but it was seized and couldn't be moved out of neutral. He told me it starts but will not shift. I was told the rod was welded internally within the transmission. I thanked him for his time and effort and he was paid by my mother in law. We'll, then myself and a friend came over and found the shifter was indeed froze in neutral, but after we re-tore the console back apart, and diagnosing it ourself we got it to shift. Took it to a transmission shop, who said this is not a transmission problem at all. We were told to take it to a mechanic and that it's either in the shifter itself or the cable, but definitely nothing to do with the transmission. The mechanic from Adkins confirmed over and over that he's torn many of these apart and he knows his stuff when it comes to vehicles. The question is, then why did he not diagnose the issue correctly and refer me to a transmission shop who then sent me back to a mechanic. I got the shifter out of neutral but he couldn't. He said he tested the neutral safety switch but it didn't look like it had been touched. I'm just saying, I will never trust this company to touch another vehicle of mine. Didn't seem to know as much as he claimed. Did not give a correct diagnosis and still took my mother in laws money. You decide what's right or if you would trust this mechanic.

I did explain initially that I could not locate one. I had an appt for 3pm to bring it in a couple days after I called. ai arrived before 3pm and dropped it off assuming they would get to it. They didn't and said they would get to it the next day, not a big issue. When I went to pick it up I looked for the plug and noticed the plug protection cover did not fit the end of the new plug. I went back in to ask them why it did not fit and learned from the mechanic he had just taken the protection plug for the old one? I asked why he replaced the plug that I couldn't find if it had already existed, it would have been simple to just test the existing plug line that I was unable to find and not use a new one. The person at the desk just said that when I called I just wanted a new plug installed, not really accurate, I did say on the original call that I could not find the plug connection and needed the accessory plug. I would have hoped they would have at least tested the existing one and only replace the plug if it actually needed it. $168 spent when I did not need the part.
