George Fegan - Good set up

Driving through the city on Wednesday I heard a clunk and then a pop and then a hiss and…read moreimmediately I knew it was a puncture, all I could see in my mind was pound signs racking up because new tyres ain't cheap! When I got home I changed the flat tyre to a temp and pulled the huge screw (see picture) that I had run over out of my tyre! To me the tyre looked unfixable due to the size of the puncture so I was resigned to having to fork out for a brand new tyre. After some searching on Yelp I came across George Fagan on the Antrim Road which was nice and handy for me as I didn't want to drive too far with my temp wheel. I decided to call George to find out the craic with tyre replacements and booking in with them and once I explained what I needed the guy on the phone said, 'sure bring her down and we'll have a look!' To be honest I wasn't too optimistic as going by past experiences not having a time slot booked in at a garage can mean a long wait. I headed down anyway as I had a busy day and needed my car to do some pick ups. One thing to note is that George Fagan is on a really busy road so you're best parking on one of the side streets and walking up to the garage, especially if you don't have a booking. I went in and the mechanic told me to 'pull my car round front' and they'd be with me in 5 minutes. It was in fact only 2 minutes until a younger mechanic came and took the punctured tyre from my car and said he'd be back in a minute. Sure enough he did come back in a minute and take off the temp and put on a freshly repaired tyre. Literally I didn't get out of my car during this whole process! He even jacked it up with me in it! He then told me he had fixed my tyre and to keep an eye on it as it was a big hole. He said we may as well see if we can save you from forking out for a new tyre! I couldn't believe it, a mechanic who was trying to save me a few quid! The tyre repair cost £10 in total and I was at the garage for a total of 10 minutes! Unbelievable service! I'll definitely be back when my MOT comes round! These guys really seem to know their stuff and what's best os they are looking out for you!

A handy place to go to if you have a blow out, or a puncture problem. George and his team are friendly and down-to-earth, easygoing but hardworking, and are able to get your car up and on the road in good time - which is of course all you're looking for from a service like this. Their prices aren't unbearable either - sort of reasonable for the service you're getting. There is plenty of parking in the lot too, so you can leave your car in and come back for it later.

I recently had my BMW 1-Series serviced at a garage in Bangor, the follow up report suggested that…read morethe engine had " Excessive play in the timing change", although no symptoms or diagnostics supported this report. But this could be catastrophic, if the timing chain jumps on the cogs or the actually brakes while the engine is at high revs. The garage gave me an estimated cost to replace the chain to be over £500.00. I was obviously concerned, but because I had doubts about this report I decided to get a second opinion from Johnny at Scott's Garage. Johnny took the time to do a thorough inspection of the engine, run complete computer diagnostic report, and a test drive. His conclusion was the timing chain appears to be serviceable and of no concern at this time. Johnny a competent and experienced engineer, who at short notice gave me his valuable time and honest opinion. What more do you want from your garage? I will certainly be using Scott's Garage at Dundonald for all my car repairs and servicing requirements in the future. Thank you. John Dawber Bangor Co.Down.

I'm going to sound like a complete Daddy's girl today (which isn't too far wrong to be honest...),…read morebut my dad has been impressed with Johnathan Scott since going to him with car problems three or four years ago. And he's never looked back... Scott's Garage was initially based on the Ballyregan Road, which was handy enough for us being less than ten minutes down the road. My dad took both his car and my mum's for MOT prep, for repair when he had a couple of accidents, and just general look-overs. Johnathan would always give my dad a lift home before starting work on the car, which was really lovely of him, and meant by dad didn't have to use public transport (it's been a while), or get a lift. Last year (I think...these years start to roll into one after a while), Johnathan opened up a new garage in Carrowreagh Business Park, allowing him to expand his business, and still provide the same great service. My dad has never had a complaint about him, he works incredibly hard, and offers his services are incredibly decent prices. What more could you want?!
