Clarke Brothers isn't really an Auto Factors, they're actually a Clutch Specialist, so when my…read moreSWMBO burnt out the clutch on her ancient jalopy, I was sent to Clarkes as they were they only place who didn't answer her enquiry with "A what?" They are basically a two man operation, there's Gerry, who is a walking encyclopedia of all things clutch related, and Paul, who looks like he should be ripping the guts out of a Harley in LA somewhere instead of working in a clutch shop in Belfast. In any case they were able to supply a clutch to fit and were very reasonable about it. My second visit was an emergency when my father left his car into his local mechanic and the clutch supplied by the mechanic was wrong, just what he needed on a Saturday morning, of course the clutch was an oddball item that wasn't in stock, fortunately my hairy namesake took one look at it, told me to "Bugger off for an hour" and when I returned he had refurbished the clutch like new. In short, it's one of those businesses that's a throwback to a previous age, two blokes who know what they are talking about and will take the time for a bit of banter and to make sure you're happy.

Fortunately Clarkes was a pleasure to go to. They provide very competitvely priced clutches and will gladly go the extra mile in order to ensure that you get the parts you need as promptly as possible. There is space to park the car outside, which is very important for somewhere so close to the centre of Belfast. The staff are wonderfully polite and friendly, which in the macho world of car parts and repairs is a real plus! They provide installation and all other relevant advice, and are very helpful!

Everyone knows what Halfords do, they specialise in parts and accessories for all types of vehicles…read moreincluding bikes and trikes. But what I didn't know until recently was they could also fit electronics and fix minor car problems. I bought a new car radio and car garages were quoting me ridiculous prices and time frames to get it fitted - I like singing along with all my cheesy tunes in the car and not having a radio was really starting to impact on the likelihood of me getting spotted by a major record label whilst stopped at traffic lights. So obviously it become top priority to get my new radio fitted. This is where Halfords came in. I popped in to the shop in Bangor and they booked me in for the following day - all this cost was £30, which is an absolute bargain. I returned the next day and within 30 minutes Gareth - the car electrics expert had fitted my new radio and even sat with me until I connected my phone to make sure everything was working to perfection. I cannot find a fault in the service Halfords provided and it's worth noting that they employ experts who know their cars. This branch has a huge shared car park and plenty of space if the guys from Halfords need to pop your bonnet or test out your newly fitted wipers.

I am currently trying to fix up a moped I had when I was 16 to sell it on, I say trying because I…read moream not getting very far. Unfortunately while working on her, I say her because that's what mechanics say, I could not get the engine to start. My brother suggested tat I should get some quality motor oil to lubricate the engine, I had been trying to get her firing with Tesco's own brand oil that is basically just the juice from the blue and white stripy beans. So I took his advice and headed on over to Colin Adams motor parts, it was a Saturday at around 12am and fortunately the Newtownards shop was open, I wondered in and as I have already explained I am not really an expert on all this stuff so I decided to ask someone who worked there. They were really helpful and pointed out the best 2 stroke oil for my scooter. The shop had a great selection of all things motoring and my brother who fancies himself as an expert told me that it was all very reasonably priced. He even came out with some engine oil for £7.99. When I got home the scooter gulped up the new oil and was purring within 15 minutes, the guys at Colin Adams really do know there stuff. Parking outside is good too, so if you need a large item you should have no trouble getting it to the car.

Took it home and sprayed the car the colour did not match I completely wasted my time and money buying this paint from Colin Adams. Avoid being ripped off the paint only cost him a few pounds to mix and cost me nearly ten pounds to buy.
