I scheduled an appointment with Kristina, a level 3 stylist and was highly impressed with my haircut. Appointments are easy to schedule and the staff is very friendly. I asked for a trim on my inverted bob and my stylist went above and beyond my expectations. She made suggestions, asked how I styled my hair, and gave great advice about products. I had the scalp treatment added on to my haircut for $20 - the purpose was to detox my scalp of buildup and it was amazing. In addition, I received a nice hand massage after hair washing and she politely asked to test a new eyebrow pencil on me. We talked went over a color consultation and Kristina is highly knowledgeable about her work. I haven't dyed my hair probably 2+ years so I was unsure about what to do with my dark hair. We looked over Pinterest pictures and techniques (bayalage, highlights, low lights, etc.) I will be returning to her as my stylist and for my future color appointment. I've been going to MCV Salon for over a decade and every stylist I've had here has been great! I always leave happy! This time I got a cut and style from Melissa who was wonderful! She was so fun to talk to! This was my first haircut I've had in 18 months (thanks COVID) and she didn't even bat an eye at my gnarly hair. I have to say this was the BEST blow out I've gotten in a VERY long time, I left the salon and was FEELIN MASELF all day long! All thanks to Miss Melissa! I brought my daughters to this salon when they lived at home. My hairdresser retired so I thought of this salon and made an appointment for a cut and then I came in for highlights. I then made an appointment 6 weeks out. I received a call from the salon a week before my appointment asking if I could come in a half hour later. This was inconvenient but I agreed to come in as they asked. I walked in 25 minutes after my original appointment and the receptionist said I was too late and that I couldn't get my haircut that evening. Now I waited six weeks for this appointment, and I was on time as they asked me to come in 30 minutes later. They refused to cut my hair. I was shocked that they would treat a customer that way after THEY asked me to come later AND I was on time!! Now I need to find a hairdresser to cut my hair within the next week. I wouldn't waste my time nor money at this salon. You might be bumped from your appointment after scheduling it many weeks in advance. I made it clear they lost a customer. read more

I was looking for a new salon after moving out of Madison and had heard good things about MCV. The first time I went in, I had a haircut and color. I really liked the stylist personally, and she was friendly and fun to talk to. She did a great job on my color, so I was satisfied with that. However, I'd asked for my hair to be trimmed to shoulder length and it ended up being chin length- this I was not at all happy with. I did not go back for several months because it took that long for my hair to grow out again. When I finally went back, I had the same stylist (decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and hope the last haircut was just a fluke). This time, I was very specific that I wanted my hair to be SHOULDER length and specified that I needed it to be long enough to fit in a ponytail and she assured me that it would. However, she then cut my hair even SHORTER than the last time (shorter than chin length) and it didn't even come CLOSE to fitting in a ponytail. To make matters worse, the haircut was completely uneven- over the next couple of days I noticed several strands on one side that were a full inch longer than the rest of my hair. I trimmed those myself at home, and over the next few weeks, I continued to notice random extra-long strands here and there that I had to cut off. Now, it has been two months since that haircut and my hair STILL does not fit into a ponytail (still not even close to shoulder length), and as it grows out, I noticed today that in the front, one side of my hair is a FULL INCH longer than the other side (this was less noticeable before because it curled under when it was shorter, but now that it is longer it lies flat and the length difference is VERY obvious). This is by far the worst haircut I have ever had in my life (and I was a kid in the 80's so believe me, I've had some BAD hair in my day!). A friend of mine had the exact same thing happen to her with a different stylist at MCV last year, so it seems like my experience is not unique. This is all made even more infuriating by the fact that MCV is really over-priced compared to other Aveda salons. So I paid a LOT for this awful haircut I could have given myself for free with a weed wacker. And as other reviewers have mentioned, the fact that you can only leave tips in cash is utterly ridiculous. For services that cost that much, it is insane to not be able to just add the tip to your credit/debit card. It's embarrassing to have to run out to an ATM to get cash and then come back to leave a tip. Needless to say, I will NOT be going back to MCV again. If my hair ever grows back to a reasonable length, I will be in the market for a new salon. read more

I've been coming to MCV Salon for over 10 years now and wouldn't imagine going anywhere else! There are so many talented people that work here wether you're looking for a hair cut or color/highlights, or even a mani/pedi. I always go home happy and looking good! And if there's a chance you aren't 100% happy with your outcome, just let them know and they will do their best to fix the issue and make you happy :) I always look forward to seeing my stylist, Brittney, who is an amazing colorist that is always up to date with new trends and styles. She takes the time to listen and will give great suggestions if you're not sure what look you're going for. I always receive compliments (even from strangers!) about how they love my hair! My daughter and I went to a new stylist. We both love our haircuts. We each went from really long hair to shoulder length ( so at least 14-16 inches cut off each). It is so relaxing there and the products smell so nice. I used to go to MCV way back when they were in a different building and once or twice in this one. Always had a good experience. I'm just not loyal to one hairstylist over another. Mostly it comes down to availability. Would definitely go again. read more

I have been going here for about a year and love it! My stylist listens to what I want and I always leave feeling great. The massages while washing hair are so relaxing. They always offer tea and water and during the winter -warm cider, which was delicious. The only thing I don't like is that you can't put a tip on your card. I visited MCV today for the first time and it was a wonderul experience. Making my appointment was easy and I was able to get in right away. MCV's has all the services one expects from an Aveda salon, the scalp, neck, and hand massage I received with my cut were wonderful and relaxing. Alison, who cut my hair, did a fabulous job. I'm currently growing out a pixie cut, which is always awkward and mullet-y looking, but Alison did a fantastic job of trimming it into a stylish bob. I'll definitely be returning for my future cuts and trims. As a side note--if you pay with a credit or debit card they're unable to add a tip to your card, but you can pay with check or come back with cash. I had to run to the bank to get cash for a tip today and it was super inconvenient. read more

Caitlin is an amazing stylist. She took time to hear what I had to say before jumping in. I have hair that is going grey, but is brown with blonde highlights. I am very particular about my hair. She is the first person in a long time who has made my hair look like it used to when I was younger. You can see the highlights after the coloring has been done - versus a highly-rated place I used to go to where everything ended up muddled together and you would have thought I did the coloring myself. My biggest issue, and reason for knocking this down a star is that they don't take credit card tips and the pricing is high. It was $200 for color and haircut, which is very high. To not take credit card tips at this price point is ridiculous. I was embarrassed that I have to come back with a cash tip for my stylist. read more

Hair Cut Service: The stylist did not know what she was doing. The cut was supposed to have one blunt line, and she sectioned it and layered it. It looks nothing like the picture. And she cut too much off for a touch up trim to fix anything or make it look decent. They said it needed product to be styled to look like the picture. It doesn't matter what I do to it. It's like they. It a paper triangle and told me it can be a square but I'm not looking at it in the proper lighting. Terrible. The massage was awkward, like this chic did not want to be there doing her job. Products are great, but I will be looking for another place in town that has cruelty-free products. read more

MCV is an Este Lauder salon. Actually it is an Aveda salon (same thing). I love Aveda! It's like a cult that I am in. Aveda only.There's only 3 beauty products I let touch my skin and hair. Este Lauder moisturizer, MAC studio finish concealer, and Aveda shampoo and conditioner. Get the point???? I think I should be in charge of the Este Lauder portfolio or a brand ambassador or something. So enough about the Aveda products, the stylists at MCV really do wonders. Since moving to WI, I made myself home at MCV and have a regular hairdresser who makes my life easier and less stressful. Every four weeks for a trim. The convenience and little text message alerts and reminders that MCV send to my phone to remind me of my appointment are helpful. I have a tendency to forget or not write appointments down. The stylist definitely took the time to listen to my concerns regarding my hair, gave me a oil/ head massage before shampooing my hair, a hand massage while my hair was conditioning and an amazing cut all for the low price of $33! I love MCV, I have not gone to a full service salon in a very long time, but after spending a ton of money for bad haircuts and service I decided to give it a shot. When I first went I had a stylist by the name of Billie Jo, whom I loved; she moved of course! but there is another stylist by the name of Corina who is absolutely the best, I adore her. She gives the best pedicures, and although I have not had my haircut by her yet I cannot imagine that I will be disappointed, and I plan on having it trimmed very soon. I do not think you will be disappointed in MCV! Of course you will pay more than the cheap, fast places where no one will talk to you because they are too busy planning their "party for the night" but boy it is so worth it. read more

I've been a client of MCV for at least 12 years. I had always loved going and getting wonderful haircuts by creative and extremely talented stylists. However, after some time certain portions of the service started to slide. Also treatment to certain former stylists by the salon left a really bad taste in my mouth. I now only buy my product here. The last time I purchased my product I was treated exceptionally rude by the front desk. She was completely uneducated on product and even more uneducated on the computer system. I have been an Aveda Pure Privilege member for 10 years, my number has been saved in the system for at least 6 years. The front desk girl refused to look for the PP number in my file where in the past, it was never an issue. She was very rude, refused to call PP to look up my number, it was a mess. Finally, after my pushing, she looked it up on my file. Thank goodness Rejuvenation is in town now. I'll buy my product there from now on. read more
