I give McNiels auto care 5 star because of their communication and efficiency. Unfortunately, I'm a victim of a hate crime. My catalytic converter was stolen and I completely hated it! (The Office reference anyone??) These are not cheap. Be grateful if you get away with paying anything under $1000 for repair. Mine costed $1700. AAA worked with McNiels auto care to ensure it was replaced and paid for. Your insurance normally covers this theft under comprehensive insurance FYI. Call your insurance and give them your mechanics info. As soon as they reviewed the damage, Andrew took pictures and sent me a link detailing exactly what the extent of the damage was. I was able to review the pics myself. AWESOME TOUCH! Never have I seen an auto mechanic use technology in this way to keep their customers updated. After this, Andrew called me to ensure I understood exactly what happened and what was needed in order to repair. It took them about a week total of ordering the part and installation. I also had them do other work on my car while they waited for the part. They did a great job. Andrew was very courteous and explained every step to get my car back up and running as usual. I went to McNeil's Auto Care in Riverton yesterday for the first time. My husband is really picky who works on his truck so I read reviews and picked the place closest to my house with the highest rating. I was impressed with the friendly customer service and clean waiting area, and was told it would be about an hour for an oil change. It ended up taking considerably longer than that and I was a little frustrated bc I had made an appt and had somewhere to be. Manny took the initiative to make an unfortunate situation a positive one and I could not be MORE impressed by how concerned and bad he felt and the measures he took to let me know that is not usually how things go. I wish everyone treated customers this way, I'm totally going to be back and am usually a very loyal customer when I find a place (especially any car maintenance place) that is fairly priced and has great employees & customer service! I am now in my fifteenth year of McNeil's, first in Sandy, then ever since they opened in Riverton. I am estimating that in those 15 years, they have worked on no fewer than 8 different vehicles...my son and daughter also use them. The secret is their dependability. They talk with us, make suggestions, and then perform the work/service without any surprises. I would never go anywhere else! This McNeil's location replaced a highly rated Labrum's Auto Care in May 2019. Thinking that perhaps that Labrum's had been bought out by McNeil's and that most of the personnel had been retained, I decided to give McNeil's a try since they were nearby. I called about noon on a weekday to ask if they could perform a vehicle manufacturer recommended servicing consisting of an oil change and tire rotation. McNeil's was able to accommodate me that same day without an appointment, so I dropped the car off. They called to notify me that the service was complete at 3pm. They also texted me a link to an online report card of a 23-point inspection they also completed that showed no issues with any of the systems checked. The out the door cost for a synthetic oil and filter change, tire rotation, and 23-point inspection was just over $90. In speaking with Steve when I picked up my car, he said that only himself and one mechanic had stayed on when the business changed hands. The service I received exceeded my expectation for a reasonable cost, so I rated them 4-stars. My daughter is looking for a mechanic, so I will probably recommend she give McNeil's a try. read more

I recently called about 4 day's ahead of actual appointment to confirm this auto repair could fix my vehicle before a long road trip I had been planning for two months, while giving them my make and model and year of my Vehicle. As I had to Uber back to their location to pick up my vehicle I was told they couldn't fix my car because of a specific machine only their Sandy location has. If I would have known this I would have never gone here and wasted my time. Now I will be traveling without my vehicle in Tip Top shape. Thanks for the oil change. read more

I originally had them fix a thermostat on my truck. Of course, a $400 repair. Their "recommendations" for additional repairs would be an extra $1500. I passed, they made the repair I actually needed, and a few days later my truck was bogging down, almost breaking down on road. Took it back, "some water" got into the repaired part area. Annoying, but they made it right. Fine. A few months later, my Benz went into "limp" mode (the car only allowed to go 5mph so as to not damage major components) about 1/2 mile from their shop. I called and asked if they can repair Mercedes Benz. They said "sure!" I took it to them, they held it for 10 days, then called saying that they couldn't figure out what was going on, but they'd tow it to their Sandy (or Draper?) location, because they had a Benz "expert" at that location. Fine. A week later, I believe his name was Jessie, called saying that they found the problem, and the repair would be $6k-6,500!!! Uh, no. I told them just to tow it down to the Draper Benz dealership. At this point I found it dubious to charge so much, and skeptical that they knew what the H-E-double toothpicks they were doing with my car. They charged me almost $200 to "diagnose the problem" and another $100 to tow it a couple of miles to the dealership. When I originally called to see if they had the expertise, they could have said "no" and I would have just had it towed to the dealership in the first place! At the dealership, they readily discovered the problem. $1000 repair (dealership price!) However, the dealership mechanic also discovered that when McNeill's put my engine back together, they "crossed the threads" on the turbocharger which may require a replacement ($3k). An hour later the dealership called back saying their mechanic found a way to fix the turbo without replacement, but it would cost me $300 to fix. So, instead of saying "NO WE CANNOT COMPETENTLY FIX YOUR BENZ", McNeill's cost me almost $500 in unnecessary charges and 3 weeks without my car. Trying to charge me $6k on a $1k repair, that's icing on the cake. read more

I went to McNeils to have a car checked out as a second opinion to another mechanic who wanted to charge me almost $4000.00 for a repair job. McNeils inspected the car and found a different diagnosis. They quoted me $1280.00 and they stuck to their quote. They did encounter some extras to work on but they held to their quote. The car has been running excellently. They communicated well during the repairs keeping me informed. I appeal the hard work they did. They earned the five stars. read more

I scheduled a tune up and planned on waiting in the lobby. I mentioned that one of my check engine lights was on, can you please check also. They were super backed up so they offered to call me an Uber to get home nearby. I assumed it was complimentary, agreed. Turns out they used an XL Uber (more expensive) and added it to my bill, increasing it by nearly $20. My daughter brought me back when it was ready. They charged over $100 to look at the engine light and completely ignored my original request for a tune up. I am a single mom, the $20 for Uber was absolutely not in my budget. I do not trust them, never going back. They used to be reasonably priced, since the remodel, everything is outrageous. read more
