We stopped into the Cellar Bar at McMenamins in McMinnville for a couple of drinks and ended up having one of those unexpectedly perfect nights. I ordered an Old Fashioned and my wife had a Dirty Martini--both were seriously well made. Balanced, smooth, and clearly crafted by someone who knows what they're doing. The service was awesome from start to finish--friendly, attentive, and genuine without being over the top. But the real standout is the ambiance. The Cellar truly feels like you've stepped back in time... like you've wandered somewhere you maybe weren't supposed to find. Dim lighting, moody atmosphere, and that tucked-away, old-world vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer. This was a decent meal. The service was great! We forms large table and had our drink order in fast. The cheese curds were mostly breading. They were good, just lacking on cheese. The fish and chips were as solid as ever. They are one of my go to's at any McMenamins. They were cooked well and the fries were a nice golden brown. It was really more food than I could eat! McMenamins Pub in McMinnville is a quaint little place! After an evening of an extended progressive dinner, we landed here for a nightcap. The ambiance of the the little bar is quaint. The bartender was very polite and professional. He was very accommodating and made a great drinks! Martinis, cocktails, and whisky were all wonderful. Fairly priced. We were the only ones in the bar so the extra attention from the bartender was really nice. McMenamins is exactly what you expect it to be. Great setting, fun decor, great concept, fabulous drinks... didn't try the food but we'll take a guess it is on-par for McMenamins. We typically skip the food but will always stop in for a nightcap! If in downtown McMinnville and looking for a nice place to pop in for a cocktail, McMenamins is a great place to stop by and try. read more

I will never get tired of this place. There are very few cities anywhere that can do an intimate rooftop pub where you can sit at and have your lunch and look down the main street. This restaurant is located on the first floor of a vintage hotel in old town McMinnville. I stopped in for lunch with my sister and we were seated in a booth. The interior is dark wood and stained glass that looks 100 years old. Our service was professional and attentive throughout our meal. I ordered the Treasury Turkey sandwich which you can get as a whole sandwich or half (I decided on half). The turkey came with sun dried cranberry aioli, provolone cheese, lettuce, and tomato on wheat bread. It usually comes with red onion too but I requested no onion. It comes with either fries or tots and I chose the latter. The sandwich was simple but incredibly delicious. Everything tasted so fresh and vibrant. The tots were plentiful and very good too. Definitely a recommended spot for a lunch that'll make your tummy happy. read more

Waited many years to give McMenamins more of my hard earned money. I had hoped things would have improved by now. Still the same crap. No service, food was awful. The damn tots were even a bummer! My sister ordered a turkey sandwich and she said bread was stale, not good. I had a Tillamook cheeseburger, meat was nearly raw! Hamburger must be cooked thru...FYI! The Tillamook cheeseburger at Burgerville is better! I'm so disappointed. The restroom was clean. With so much competition close by, I had hoped they would have improved now. I had to get my own water and beer too and no wait staff was present. Wow! I work hard for my money, prices are up, so I want a decent meal, not too much to ask. Elevator was an option, however we took the 100 stairs to the top through the hotel, which added to the cool vibe. Could have been better: Ordered raspberry lemonade drinks off the bar menu, received the raspberry lemon seltzer waters instead. 3/4 of our food was delivered, had to point out one meal was missing. When it arrived, mini corn dogs, they were way overcooked. Menu was limited compared to other McMenamins (food and drink). We drove an hour and got there at 10:50 hoping to order breakfast, since they stop at 11 However the server immediately said "no more breakfast just lunch, we stop serving at 11" I looked at the time and still had at least 10 min, she sat us down and said oh wrong menus let me get you lunch. You know what to expect from the McMenamins kitchen, although none of their signature pizzas are on offer here, it seems (no Hammerhead BBQ pizza for me, today!). Both the food and the service are solid: we enjoyed a surprisingly delicious Seven Castles Stockpot (a sausage, bacon and cabbage stew over sweet polenta) and a couple drinks, while moving between locations and collecting stamps for our passports. Rooftop area is great and that's about it! It took 20min before a server appeared, an hour more to get food. We ordered burgers, by the time we got them, buns were soggy and the burgers barely warm. server was most attentive when delivering the check. my suggestion is that if you are looking for a nice place to sit, bring your own food, it'll taste better and you won't be hangery when you eat. read more

Just an okay experience here on a hot July evening. The rooftop bar was closed--I normally go there when I'm in town, but it was closed due to 100 degree temperatures. That was a good move. My dinner here was completely average--Dungeon Burger and a salad. The poor burger was overcooked and dried out. The salad was good. The woman serving tables was not present in her work, which resulted in flat, disconnected service. Nothing was awful; it just wasn't good or very welcoming. Bummer. read more

However we were there shortly after opening and the only customers there and it took ~ 40 minutes to get our food. If the restaurant was busy that would be reasonable. I very rarely give out this kind of a review but tonight's experience was terrible and it didn't seem that anyone cared. In a table of 8, 5/8 meals could have been sent back. All three salmon dishes, while tasty, were cooked beyond well done. The edges of the fish were blackened. My wife's prime rib was well done and grey, she ordered medium. She sent it back and nothing was said by our server or mgt. it came back the same grey color but this time medium. However no flavor. A burger was not hot, clam chowder was tepid at best. I hope it wasn't being kept at that temperature And fried fish and chips was even over cooked. Our server never checked to see how the meal was after it was delivered. If she had other dishes would have gone back. I don't know what happened in the kitchen but the only thing they cooked properly was the Cajun tater Tots. We stopped here for a drink on the rooftop bar after a delicious meal at Pura Vida Cocina and I must say the staff upstairs wasn't very welcoming. It was just matter of fact mentality and demeanor. I get that people are short staffed and things can take longer (I was just getting drinks), but just seeing the way he handled the people in line was discouraging. The Gin Lavender Lemonade was decent, but nothing out of this world. Maybe the bar was already lowered by the person making this drink. I called to book a dinner reservation for a birthday celebration. The person I spoke to (Becky) asked if it was for that night (Thursday), and I said, "No, it's for Saturday." She then asked me what that date was; if she's taking reservations, shouldn't she have a calendar at hand?!? Then I said that I'd heard they had a separate dining area and asked if that was available for our date & time. She said yes and took the reservation. When we arrived, we were shown to a table in the middle of the pub. I said that we had booked a separate dining area and was told that they DIDN'T HAVE a separate dining area! When I told them that Becky said she had booked us into one, they said Becky is not supposed to be taking reservations! As for the meal service, it was sub-standard. Our waitress was quite frazzled, even thought the restaurant was only about half-full and I didn't see her waiting on any other tables. She started by carefully identifying who was sitting where (as there was some milling around taking place), presumably so she knew who each order would go to. It turned out not to be the case. For both the drinks and the entrees she had to ask who each one went to, and even then seemed unsure where to put them. A number of times she said she would bring an additional item, but then either forgot or took an unusually long time to return with it. It took at least 15 minutes for her to take our drink order and at least that much time again for her to bring them. We had been told that meals were taking about 30 minutes to come out of the kitchen. You'd expect the server to check back during that amount of time to see if drinks needed to be refreshed, but no. I had to go up to the bar myself to reorder. When she showed up again, she was just putting her apron back on as if returning from a break! Totally inattentive. What should have been about a 1-1/2 hr. visit became 2-1/2 hours (particularly difficult for our 3 6-and-under attendees). And even tho' I had told her at the onset that the charges were all to go on a single tab, she still asked who should get the tab when she brought it! The food, on the other hand, was fabulous. McMenamin's always provides a good meal. And kudos to the bartender who picked up our waitress's slack. We will still dine at McMenamin's establishments, just not this one. One more thing. The restrooms at this location required a keycode to access. Not an easy thing when a disabled person walks to the restroom, only to find that they need to walk back to where they just came from to get the code and try again. read more

It's a typical McMenamins pub. Fun little rooftop bar and mostly all the same things you get at every McMenamins, but nothing to complain about other than it was a little bit old and stinky. I definitely recommend taking the over 90 stairs to the rooftop bar as that will help you work off your delicious truffle as always with McMenamins. The service is good and quirky. read more

I loved the Rooftop Deck! Alright well take the elevator if your not adventurous lol.. it's about well idk 10 flights up! I definitely got a small cardio workout before. Indulging in some cocktails. Came out on a nice Friday at 4 made reservations! That was very cool that they take them! First stop of the night Cajun tots, Brussels sprouts and nice cider for me! Yum yum I chatted it up so much didn't take took me photos but it was a cool and fun place. Bar is pretty small inside so better to sit on the patio and enjoy the quiet time and what's around! We were walking around McMinniville and kinda stumbled into this pub, thinking "well, maybe a drink while we wait". Ciders and beer and wine, all just fine. The fries with the truffle dip blew our minds. Service was quick. We did pop upstairs to view some of the rooms saved for special events. But this was just a great way to sit, relax and grab a few quick drinks before walking around McMinniville again. There was an upcoming UFO fest (we had no idea but it was a hoot). Had their blackberry cider, and forgive me I am not a beer person, my son had some one of their many IPA's but I do not recall which. That being said, just try! I took my boyfriend to check out Hotel Oregon on our recent trip to McMinnville, as he had never been to Mac nor had he even heard of McMenamins!! I always love checking out the view from the rooftop bar, and even though it was raining we had a romantic kiss alone on the patio. Back inside, we ordered Hot Wings to start (literally the best hot wings we've ever had, and my boyfriend is a wing connoisseur lol), the seasonal Jambalaya (not the best my boyfriend has ever had, but it was still very good), the Pulled Pork Sandwich, and to drink a Ruby Ale & a fresh-squeezed Greyhound (the best!). We often visit other McMenamins and love the ambiance and history of there locations, this one held up to our expectations despite all the negative reviews. Our food was excellent I had the steak sandwich with the tater tots. The tater tots were extra crispy! The service was decent but he did forget to order our fondue and pretzels. He was quick to fix our order and get what we needed thus the 4 star review. But I would definitely recommend to anyone else! read more
