Food offerings are on the pricy side, but likely on par with everything else these days. Food is delivered to your seat and comes out fast, hot & fresh. This was the only theater playing the new Knives out movie so I finally decided to check it out. The front lobby you can place your order. They will give you drinks and popcorn right there and food will be delivered to your table. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. Very happy to help any way they can. The theater is small but comfortable. The one down side is that only one side has an aisle. So folks sitting have to cross over you every time they want to leave. This also makes food delivery awkward. We got popcorn and tater tots. Popcorn was cold, but a good amount of salt and butter. The Tots where hot and had a good amount of seasoning on them. read more

It has a majestic vibe to the place and feels like you're stepping back in time. This is a two screens cinema, usually trading off with what is being played, along with show times. Full disclosure: I am not a movie buff, and I really don't enjoy going to movie theaters. Sitting on uncomfortable chairs with questionable cleanliness, sticky floors, and watching a movie while someone perches their feet behind my head is not my idea of fun. However, I do enjoy going to the Anderson School Theatre. For starters, it's charming, adorned with antique lighting and decor - but NOT antique seating - and often there's Grateful Dead music playing until the previews start. My feet don't stick to the floors, and I've never had a gross encounter (like gum under the seat or goo on the arm rest). They do a good job of cleaning in between shows, which is no easy feat, as people (including small children) eat full meals while watching the movie. I can get real food here, instead of a scary hot dog or nachos covered in some weird waxy cheese-like product. I usually get the hummus plate (if I'm feeling healthy) or a cheeseburger and tots (if I'm feeling gluttonous), but they have everything from salads, to pizza, to fish and chips, to grain bowls. They also have a full bar, so when the hubby and I want to feel like we are going out on a date (despite our children sitting a few seats over) this is a nice, cozy place to come. Bathrooms are clean and stocked. And the staff running the theatre are always friendly and helpful. It's usually not packed, but we try to get there a little early to order our food/drinks and get settled. We don't mind spending some extra time to soak up the atmosphere. When the weather is nice, we will sometimes stroll around the property and enjoy the different gardens. Definitely recommend this theatre for movie with the kids, a date night, or if you're like us, both. read more

What an awesome place! It is well cared for and the ticket prices are fantastic. The theater is on the smaller side, and nicely decorated. The chairs are comfortable and the first come first serve seating arrangement was great, even running a few minutes late. I made a silly mistake and accidentally booked the wrong day to see a movie, but the staff members were so helpful and kindly let us see the movie on the wrong day anyway. I would highly recommend this movie theatre! It's a nice hidden gem. (And by that I mean it is a bit tricky to find the movie theater, since Mcmenamins is such a busy place and there are lots of buildings. I suggest walking around a bit before to figure out where everything is, especially because it's so pretty! Still love coming here but the service and food are getting progressively worse. The kids working there are so disorganized. And yet I have to admit they are friendly and easy going. But the real reason im updating my review is to warn people not to order the higher bowl mai Thai peanut. It's a mesh on ingredients that just don't go together. The rice is weird and mushy, then there are black beans (from a can), black olives, some coleslaw type of mix and then they just added a peanut sauce on top of that. Weird combo...avoid! read more

My boyfriend and I have come here multiple times to see movies, and we keep returning because it's so cheap compared to the AMC near us! We usually don't order food, as it's pretty pricey, but we have gotten some drinks a few times (also pricey for what they are). The tickets are $7 for matinee (adult and child) and $9 (adult) and $7 (child) regularly. They only show one movie at a time and switch them out every couple of weeks, but the movies are always pretty new and popular. My only complaint about the actual theatre is that the seats are kind of scratchy, if you don't wear pants! I've made several a stop at this Mcmenamins and have been to the theatre a few times now, which I think is an adequate amount of times to leave an objective review. First, I like the theatre itself, I think it's vintage and cool and I have no complaints about screen size or the sound, they are perfectly adequate. The chairs are comfy and there is ample space to get up and down during the movie without making everyone stand up. Where they didn't plan well is only a couple rows have an area to put your food and drink. If you don't get those seats you're stuck trying to eat your food on your lap which can be a challenge with a messy burger. The food here is nothing spectacular, the tots are good but wayyyyy too salty. The biggest deal, the thought that went into the arm cup holder size vs the beer glass size is like non existent. The glass is way too small and wobbles around, falls over, spills, falls and breaks on the floor, you get the idea. Would it be that hard to use a solo cup type or something that fits snugly? Or shocker a pint glass???? And my usual gripe is the employees of Anderson school, no personality, rude, generally unhappy people. It's no different in the theatre than in the restaurants and bars. The gal on this particular day behind the counter was totally put out that she was at work, and the most unhelpful person as far as being able to talk about the beer. She would only let me buy a beer for myself, which I kind of understand, but then I was told by a patron you can buy another beer for a person but they have to come get it themselves. Well that would have been helpful if the actual employee offered that info, instead my husband had to get in the back of the line and was gone for 20 minutes! Bonus is it's dirt cheap at $7, but after visiting a few times I really don't feel like dealing with the staff or the stupid glasses and fumbling with my food. Staff is friendly and helpful. The food menu is pretty limited, but you'd be surprised how tasty their burgers and tater tots are. One pain point I have regarding this theater is that the walls seem to be not properly insulated, hence no good sound isolation. I watched The Martian couple weeks back and could hear the live band rocking it up in the Haynes' Hall, which is right next to the theater. Generally the volume is pretty loud throughout the movie so you're covered, but there were pockets of time I could hear the live band when there were movie scenes with absolute silence or minimal sound. Correct me if i'm wrong, but as far as i'm aware the live band performs only on Friday evenings. You can avoid this issue by not coming on Friday evenings, or you can accept this and consider it as part of the Mcmenamins experience. Two stars largely for the operations being a disorganized mess. Don't get me wrong, I like having a couple pints while watching a movie. Sounds pretty chill right? But to experience such here, plan on arriving at least 90 minutes before the film starts. Really takes the relaxed chill out of the night. But you'll be chill enough since they leave the heat off in the building. 90 minutes explained: for some strange reason, parking is horrible. And it's in the suburbs. I think who drew up this mcmenamins hipster Disneyland considered 50% of the guests biking-in. Fantasyland thinking for sure. Anyway, adjacent stadium parking lot was full to so we had to park a couple blocks away. In the suburbs? For mediocre beer and food? Once at the theatre, it's an awkward entrance with no line to the one guy taking will-call tickets / telling people the movie is sold out / also selling tickets. Confused people not sure what line they are in or if there is a line. The buying beer & food experience is a joke. Took 20 minutes to get through a line that was less than 15-feet long. Just to get a beer for me and popcorn for the kids. It was as if the two clerks were solving differential calculus problems with each customer. Slow and overly complex. I gave up. Being I read yelp, I learned it was tough getting more than two adjacent seats here. So I parked my kids in the theatre before I attempted to secure our carbs. Coming back to the theatre I found uptight bearded NPR guy holding Chardonay & popcorn, negotiating with my kids and then the entire row to move over to comfortably seat his late arriving party. This seemed to be constantly going on. This is hella annoying. Tip - arrive super early and sneak in your own food and drink. Once the film starts you find out pretty quick you get what your discount ticket pays for - low quality sound system and poor sound insulation from surrounding buildings. And yes if it's cold outside it will be cold in the theatre. Tip to management: if you are too frugal to turn up the heat, fix your food & drink operations and you'll generate enough revenue to pay your utility bill. Bottom line - I can get to downtown theaters quicker than this one and have a much better movie experience in all respects. read more

I watched Black Panther for the second time here. I also tried to watch Black Panther here for the first time, but tickets were sold out for the same day 3:00 pm showing by 11:00 am of opening weekend on Sunday. Two weekends later, we returned for the same day 3:00 pm showing. The low price can't be beat! If you buy tickets in person, you can avoid the online $1 per ticket convenience fee. Seating is interesting. There is only one aisle, unlike most theaters where there are two aisles, i.e., two ways to enter and exit your seat. We arrived about 5 minutes before showtime, but there were still seats in the back row. Unfortunately, due to the one aisle situation, we had interrupt people sitting closer to the aisle. You can order food and beverages here. For the upper half of the theater, the trays fit in the seat beverage holder. It's pretty cool. For the lower half of the theater, I believe each row has a continuous long table right in front of it, so no need for the cool trays. Overall, I recommend this theater. Buy your tickets online for new releases, and buy your tickets in person if it's after the first or second opening weekend to save $1 per ticket (online convenience fee). read more

In Bothell, McMens is a treat, a wonderland for grownups, kids and dogs welcome too. Nothing better on a rainy Sunday afternoon, sitting by a toasty fire with a plate of Cajun tots and well crafted beer. The theater is a fun idea, but food in cramped theater seats is not a great idea. Hot toddy was delish, but spilled in the cup holder, Sound is good, price is 9.00 for adults, but if you are wanting comfort, and a screen bigger than some living rooms, this might not be the place. This place is awesome, and everything is reasonably priced. They only show one movie at a time, but if it's a movie you want to see, their tickets are cheaper than other theatres as are their concessions which are a billion times better than a regular theatre. You can get beer, wine, and real food for what you'd pay for soft drinks and crappy theatre food at other theatres. The theatre setup is great, even if you have a lap tray to eat out of, and I never had to worry about a tall person in the row in front of me blocking my view. I believe there are even weekday specials that make it even cheaper. Theatre staff is awesome and very accommodating, and the facilities have always been super clean. I echo everyone else that's reviewed. You really need to give yourself ample time for a movie here. First difficulty is parking. Just go straight to the adjacent Pop Keeney Field lot. Meaning, heading south on Bothell Everett Highway, make a right at 188th. Don't even bother with the "McMenamins lot". Buying tickets online doesn't really save you time. You stand in the same line as everyone else who needs a ticket. It's the little stand on the left, enough for 3 people to stand indoors while the rest of the line spills outside. Then there's the food and drinks line on the right. It moves like sloth through molasses. I don't really understand it as most things are grab and go (candy, popcorn, beer, etc). And if you do order something the kitchen needs to make, it gets brought to you. Which brings us to the trickiness of dining in at this theater. You either get here super early for the bar table in front of you. Or you balance the big black tray and eat off of your lap, a fun balance act if you have outerwear and a purse. And if you decide not to eat while you movie-watch, you have this big black tray on the floor, taking up precious legroom. Good thing I have short legs, though, and can almost always fold my legs up yogi style. Those are the negatives. The positives are that it's a beautiful, intimate, and fun space for movie-watching, it's affordable, and the seats are totally comfortable, with rocking movements to boot! read more

I'm a huge fan of Mcmenanmins and all of their properties, but our theater experience was not so grand. We had a few issues that might keep us from returning to their theater. 1. The theater is not insulated well for sound and the weather. a. It was really cold in the theater and all of the other viewers had all put their coats back on. 2. The theater is not well built for a dining experience, there is only 2 rows with a narrow bench for your food or beverage. We had both of our beers spilled due to this design. 3. The lack of popcorn is unacceptable Overall this is a great place to watch a movie and have dinner elsewhere on the property in the spring or summer when it's warm. read more

Great experience overall but not your typical chain theater. They do show Blockbuster movies but set in a quaint vintage style theater. You do loose some of the benefits of going to chain theater with viewing on a smaller screen size, lower quality sound, and what not. However, the price of the ticket makes up for that difference. It is fairly affordable and allows me to feel less guilty at concessions. Also, they have some rows that provide a bar table top for your food. You can order a full dinner with options like burger and tots or pizza. They have a good selection, but I recommend trying their Cajun tots for sure. Let's not forget that the staff is super helpful and friendly too. I would recommend trying out this place for casual and fun night out! read more

I was weary due to reviews. But for a mom- seeing a movie past noon with three kids- can be overly pricey- and the setting- not so great. Until we came here. It was awesome having my hummus plate delivered to my seat! Something other than nachos- woo hoo! My kids liked the bouncy seats, there was great leg room and the cost was perfect. First, could find no parking, which is concerning because every single parking spot in the adjacent Pop Keeny Field parking lot was taken too. (And no, there wasn't a game, it was all from McMenamins folk) I was then very surprised at how small the theater was. It seems to hold like 30 people. It's very tiny. We gave up because there were no 2 seats next to each other and asked for our money back, and upon leaving my wife was hit by a swinging open side door by a server, because they had a black rope ushering people along the wall right by the main door. It was a very dysfunctional set up in there. Mcmenamins is pure pandemonium even after opening over a month ago. The servers are still very confused, people drink outside in the rain because there's no room inside most of their bars/restaurants. And that's not going to stop. More and more people keep flooding to Bothell in hopes of more affordable housing. Mcmenamins is too popular for it's own good here. In contrast, I've been to and loved the Kennedy School by Mcmenamins in Portland. I was there on a weekend, every bar/restaurant was hardly full, and their theater was very large and comfortable. read more

Basically a very overpriced dive bar. Have been to multiple other McMenamins locations and they're all better than this one. Out of the 5 times I've been there, the food has showed up cold twice. As everyone else has pointed out the setup here seems a bit of an afterthought as opposed to being a well designed from the ground up movie+dining experience. But the prices are cheaper than iPic so it's realy not a fair comparison. I'm rounding up on my 3.5 star review. The food is decent and prices reasonable. Wish they had pints intstead of schooners. If you like vintage/nostalgia, you'll like the theater. If you like modern and high-tech, you'll think the screen is too small. The sound system is very good though. The should invest some money and rip out and reconfigure the seats to allow for easier eating for all seats and a bit more slope on the first section. read more
