Many people I know who've had their homes remodeled have forewarned me about possible issues that could come up in the process, and I was nervous about starting such a huge project and the possibility of it going wrong. However, my experience with Mc Master & Hill was nothing short of amazing. I particularly appreciated working with Nate who coordinated everything, explained the process every step of the way, found ways to help us save more when unavoidable things popped up (I.e the fact that our house was built over a septic tank) and he always knew somebody who could render the services we requested-- a mirror guy for our vanity, a wood guy for our closet, etc. Notwithstanding, Nate was such a great person to work with, friendly, knowledgeable , professional and super quick with getting things started, following up with other people providing services for us and keeping us in the know. We worked with McMaster & Hill for the remodel of all three of our bathrooms. Their work was impeccable and we are so happy with the results! Two of the bathrooms were cosmetic updates but one was a complete remodel (moving the toilet, knocking out part of the wall) and we are so happy - it feels like a spa!! We started planning to do 2 bathrooms, but quickly realized that we might as well just do the entire house. Jon was responsive with getting us new quotes each time we expanded the scope, and maintained existing quotes and scope, even on several occasions highlighting that the new work would actually reduce cost of some of the existing plans. Jon was always creative when we ran into issues and/or wanted to extend the plans. We ended up with what feels like a brand new house delivered with very high-quality work. We were referred to McMaster and Hill Construction by our insurance carrier, Mercury Insurance after we had a pipe break in the wall between our master closet and master bathroom. We were told they were a preferred vendor for Mercury. We had Nathan as our project manager. The work that McMaster and Hill provided was flawless and all the subs were wonderful. However, our mortgage company listed our names and McMaster and Hill as signers on all checks given to us. We had to meet Nate at his bank and endorse our checks over to him. We had no idea until the work was done that we could have done the opposite and had control of the monies. Before Nathan started the work we asked him how this all worked. Were we to but the materials ie. Tub, Vanity, Tiles? Nate said sure you can buy them and I will reimburse you at the end. So we spent 5,000 on the materials. As we understood from Nate we were under the allowance the insurance would pay. No worries. We also had Nate do some side work that was not included in the insurance monies. We all agreed that Nathan would bill us separately from the insurance allowance. The work was completed and it was now time to pay Nathan for the insurance work. We asked him to cut us a check for the materials we purchased. Nathan then informed us that we went over on the tile allowance that the insurance gave us. We looked at the bid and we did come in under. We were then told by Nathan that he used the insurance money to pay for our side work and that there was no money left because he didn't make a lot of money on our job. We went round and round. Nathan lost his temper and told us he was happy we didn't have control of the insurance money because we probably wouldn't have paid him for the side work. Who says that to a customer? Then 2 days after I called Mercury and our insurance broker, Nate emailed me the breakdown of all materials for our construction and what the insurance really allowed. In asking him why this was never presented to us he said he didn't know how to run that report? What? Mercury informed us that it is the contractors responsibility to sit down with us and explain all of that information before the work starts. Had we known our budget we would have worked within the allowance of the insurance company. When our representative asked Nate why we had not received this document he said apologies. We were truly baited and switched by Nathan and McMaster and Hill. We are still out 5,000 and Nathan told us to take it up with Mercury. They are aware that there was insurance fraud involved as it was not Nathan's right to take the money from insurance for the side work. If someone does not know how the insurance companies work then don't do the job. We are extremely upset and very disappointed. Shame on McMaster and Hill. read more

In 2021my home suffered a flood that did extensive damage. Our insurance company sent out McMaster & Hill Construction to help us repair what had happened and we were introduced to Nathan. We loved the work Nathan provided, and we were enthused to have met Nathan. He was polite, cordial, on time, and professional. We were hopeful that we would be working with Nathan and McMaster & Hill in the future. Flash forward to 2023. We decided that it was time to upgrade our kitchen floor and the first company we thought of was McMaster & Hill, and Nathan. I reached out to Nathan to see about scheduling an estimate. It was hard to line up our schedules but we were able to pick a date and we were off. A few days before, Nathan called to cancel our appointment - because his wife was going into labor. Totally understandable. I wished him well, and congratulations. He said he didn't know when would be back at work. So I asked, "Do you have a partner or someone else at McMaster Hill you would recommend?" Nathan said, "Yes, my co worker Jennifer. I'll get her your contact info and she'll get ahold of you." Perfect. Jennifer called, and it was a pleasant conversation. She asked me what my schedule was like, and I explained to her that I work full time (at the job that would end up PAYING for this remodel.) But she agreed to meet me at my home at 4:30pm on a set date. I moved my work schedule around to meet this request because we really wanted to be in business with them. THE DAY OF! Two hours before Jennifer is supposed to come over she texts me, "I have to cancel our appointment, I didn't realize you were out of service area, sorry." I tried calling her for an explanation, I tried texting back, she wouldn't respond. I called the office to speak with Nathan and was told, "He's in a meeting." I explained to the lady who answered what had happened and she transferred me to Jon. Jon told me, "Yeah sorry you're out of our service area." I asked, "But I was in your service area when Nathan helped me with my flood?" I told Jon, "I had arranged things with Nathan, spoke with him, he knows where I live, and he didn't once say anything about being outside the service area or even hinted that it would be a problem." Jon said, "We're just short staffed now - I only pay people until 5pm and it would have been too late for Jennifer to be there." I said, "The time was Jennifer's suggestion!" "We're just short staffed until Jon comes back to work, he's just had a kid so we don't know when he'll be back." "I spoke with Nathan about all of this, he's the one who recommended Jennifer." "You can wait to talk with Nathan next week when he's back to work." "You just said you didn't know when Nathan is coming back, now you're telling me he's going to be coming back next week? I'm severely disappointed with McMaster Hill. I really didn't expect to be treated like this." "I don't like to give bad news to customers, we're just busy, and you're outside of our range." I then realized I was arguing with someone who was more interested in jerking me around, than he was receiving thousands of dollars from me. Did I really want these people in my home, tearing up my floor, wasting my time, and wasting my money if they were showing themselves to be so utterly incompetent? I hung up on Jon. I wasn't about to give my time and my money to people who had more fun being jerks than being professionals. I would have very much liked to have had a working relationship with McMaster Hill. But after this I couldn't recommend a company less. Stay away unless you want to get jerked around by Jon, Nathan, and Jennifer. read more

The vision needs to be drawn up as much as possible but when it comes down to execution, you need a team that can see it happening in ways that fix the space provided and the costs you're ballparking. You following me so far? Every project has it's rhyme and reason and ours was born out of absolute necessity because of a little leaky hairline crack in a water pipe. This little troublemaker had the end of our Summer thrown for a loop! Damages required a gutting and excavation of the bathroom and surrounding areas enough to require us leaving our home-base for a few weeks time because of concern for our health safety (precautionary) and that had both my husband and I on edge. After mold removal in a room in my condo, I was given the names of a few contractors for the rebuilding phase of the insurance claim. I called McMaster & Hill and Nathan/Jon came out to give me a quote. They were very thorough and made sure to document all the items for the rebuild. They also worked extremely well with my insurance company for the claim! Since my project had crown moulding and base boards that needed replacing and closet doors to reinstall, other contractors seemed to shy away from the project, but Nathan's team wasn't scared. They gave me an estimate and worked around my busy schedule. I also added a few things outside the original scope that fell into "it'd be nice to have"... ie. recessed lighting. I paid a bit more for my extra requests, but now my 2nd bedroom looks so much nicer! Nathan's team was fast on the rebuild and cleaned-up after themselves well. Thanks for helping me get my life back after the water damage from the original leak! From start to finish, it only took them a few days to rebuild... but they worked around my schedule, so all done in about 3-weeks total. YAY! I'll post pictures if YELP lets me. read more

We were introduced to Jon Hill at McMaster & Hill Construction through our designer and it was one of the best things that came out of our remodel. Jon and his team tackled the first phase of our remodel, the kitchen and attached family room. Jon and his team were friendly, professional and provided extremely well done work. They were also very flexible, adding on a small side job that was outside the scope of the initial contract when asked. When there were a couple issues that arose Jon was personally very responsive. He would make it up to our house that day, and sometimes within the hour, to look at and address things. Even with a few set backs due to our designer ordering a wrong part, Jon finished within the estimated time window he initially provided. When he had to go outside his own crew, such as for our fireplace setup and doors or glass for some cabinets, the people he brought in were just as professional as he was. He obviously is well connected in the area. Suffice it to say I would give McMaster & Hill Construction more than 5 stars if I could. Don McMaster and Jon Hill run a tight ship. Our project included demolition of an entire floor's worth of flooring and a set of curving stairs. Carpet and aging travertine were replaced with a well-designed layout of porcelain tile and quartz treads. The process was as painless as it could be considering the size of the project.
