I personally had a great experience with the Jeff Hanneman estate auction through McManus. As a lifelong Slayer fan, I'm glad that I stumbled across this auction and took the chance. I now own some cool items that belonged to a metal legend. I'm pretty new to auctions outside of EBay so I didn't know what to expect but the whole process was pretty straightforward and smooth. I actually took the time to read everything and understand it so I knew exactly what to expect. Be sure to do this as from reading a lot of the negative reviews, it seems like most issues could have been avoided by doing so. Bidding was very fun, I was smoking some ribs and drinking beer while bidding on the auction, which was a blast. I honestly didn't expect to win anything but ended up getting quite a few cool items. I lost some too but that's how it goes. I appreciate the soft close as it prevents unfair bid sniping. Yes, they obviously charge a percentage fee on top of what you ended up winning the item for. They're not a charity and in today's economy the fee isn't terrible. Shipping was also a bit pricey but thats on FedEx. Everything arrived as described in one piece. Stopped by with my 5 year old son to check out Mcmanus Auctions. We had seen the awesome transformer from the outside and my son loves to look at things. I also really enjoy looking at artwork and artifacts, so I figured it was worth a stop. We were greeted by the Owner Patrick when we walked in. He is a great guy we and really enjoyed him showing us some of the art and his store. He also demonstrated some very sharp swords that he had up for auction. He explained they have an online auction as well. He has a HUGE back area full of items for the online auction. The front area is definitely more a showroom and a showroom it is. He has a full dinosaur skeleton on the ceiling, gorgeous rock art, paintings, giant horse statutes, patio furniture, tons of jewelry, watches, knives, guns you name it! It was a really fun place to browse and see if anything catches your eye. Patrick has a great eye for unique, quality items and I was really surprised how much stuff was in the building when I got inside. There were also vendors outside of the store on the day we went. One was a Veteran and we purchased a piece of jewelry for my son. He was the sweetest guy. He knew how to make duck sounds and it reminded me of growing up with my uncles. Super cool. I had a good experience buying from mcmanus. I see some negative reviews on here (not as many lately), but buying from small auction houses is usually buyer beware. Not that the owners have bad intentions, but they are small businesses and don't have time to do detailed research on pieces, prices, history, etc. I am confident they try their best given the time they have. How could they possibly know everything about everything? I am an expert in my niche of art collecting, and have spent years learning the nuances of the artists I collect, so I know I couldn't expect some small business owner to have the same knowledge, given the breadth of items they sell. There are many small auction houses like Mcmanus across america. If you know what you are buying and do your research, you can get really good deals. I spoke with the owner after winning my lot and he seemed totally reasonable. Shipping was prompt and the piece arrived in good condition. If you want to buy from big auction houses, you will get some more assurances, but you will surely pay big auction house prices. Even at big auction houses, though, it's still buyer beware. You have to be sure to ask clarifying questions ahead of time. If something isn't stated in the condition report, take the time to ask. read more

SCAMMERS STAY AWAY! I won an auction, got an invoice via email, it was already paid for with my credit card, off to a good start right? WRONG, try to pick up my stuff at their office, CLOSED.... Waited 40 mins outside calling, knocking, no answer... Tried calling the phone on the invoice, no answer, tried their Facebook page, got a different number, that goes directly to voice mail, not before letting you know you should call the office and dial extension 1... LOL, this is getting ridiculous Call the office again, dial extension 1, directly to voice mail, after letting me know that the office hours are Monday to Friday 9 to 5, LOL So I can't call on a Wednesday at 1pm, cause there is no one on the office, I can't pick up my items cause they are closed, I have to prepay and if I don't pick them up in 4 hours they will be forfeited... So basically they are SCAMMING people out of their hard earned money via auction, STAY AWAY. read more

Patrick McManus, the owner, is very dishonest and cannot handle being called out on his mistakes or errors. I had given him approximately 600 or more pieces of jewelry. He picked it up from me and said he would call me later to go over the stones as he didn't have time that day. He said it would take a few hours on the phone. I told him I had no problem with this. He never called. I then see pieces of my jewelry listed as blue stones, green stones, etc. I was not happy. A tanzanite is worth more than a blue stone, a morganite worth more than a pink stone etc. This is how they were listed. He made it sound as if they were glass stones, not the real deal. I called him on it and he has some excuse like customers buy for the gold, not the stone. I couldn't disagree more. Women know their stones and will pay for them. One day I was looking through one of his auctions and noticed there were a few pieces of jewelry that were mine. One piece was a 14k gold bangle with diamonds and rubies. It also had an appraisal for over $11k. The other pieces were diamond rings. I immediately called Patrick about this and asked him what was going on. He says he already paid me $450 for the bangle and that he had told me what he was doing. That was a blatant lie. I had no idea what he was talking about. He was caught and not happy about it. He gets livid with me, tells me I will never be happy with what he did for me and told me to never contact him again. He didn't like that he was busted for stealing my bangle, paying me nothing for it, and relisting it with an appraisal he went out and got. He never mentioned my othere rings I saw listed either. I also mentioned I sent him an email listing the names of the stones on one of the auctions and that he had listed gold rings as silver. He denied it and again, got livid with me. I have the email, dated Feb 14, 2023. I spent a lot of time making a list of the stones and he couldn't be bothered to make the changes so I could get more for the pieces even though he was supposed to do this to begin with. I have also purchased from his auctions and got several items that didn't work. I am talking about at least five items that weren't working. There were also items described not at all like the product. One time I went to pick up a hutch, and it was gone. He didn't care. It was like "too bad for you. We got rid of it." Bottom line, Patrick never called to go over the stones. He paid me hardly anything for an expensive bracelet, sends out for an appraisal, and lists it as his, denies emails I sent him, lies to me and lists product that doesn't work, isn't as described or just not there when you go to pick it up. Great business. I have no doubt Patrick will get on here and deny everything I said. I had thanked him several times for auctioning my jewelry even though he did not do what he committed to do and took some it himself and tried to get more for it than he paid me. I guess you have to kiss his butt over and over to satisfy his ego. He will say exactly this, "Nothing I could do would satisfy you." Just another excuse for his dishonesty. I've seen other complaints from people saying he has ripped them off as well. He feels he does an outstanding job for everyone. This just isn't true. He does the least amount of work possible as you can see by his descriptions. I could tell you other things, but I'll quit here. Don't do business with this guy. He is dishonest, has a temper if you call him out on his mistakes or shadiness and is a liar. He is the most defensive person. Everything is always everyones else's fault, never his. I've seen other reviews that had similiar complaints about him. Of course, Patrick responds and makes it sound like it is always the customers fault. You can't trust this guy. He's nice to you until you catch him doing something unethical and then he turns on you like a snake. Take your stuff somewhere else where you will be treated better, with integrity and he will follow through with what he commits to doing. Patrick does none of this. Hi here's why you shouldn't buy from McManus Auctions. me and my mom were loyal customers of 5 years, always paid. Last Sunday we participated in an auction when the winning bids turned to declined. Even the items we had won. Turns out, another auction house, nothing to do with Patrick McManus's auction house, had put in negative remarks and blocked us from bidding in all auctions on hibid. We do have an ongoing dispute with another auction house after finding out they've stolen thousands from 100's of bidders, sometimes not even sending anything or not what was bid on. I call them and they won't remove the block, call me a squealing pig and hang up. Several hours later I call Patrick and ask him why our bids were declined and he told me, these are high price items, I said but we've always paid you, then he comes up you need to get the block removed. This is someone we have paid so many thousands of dollars to and he needs to go through and individually cancel each bid as we're bidding and winning. I could not believe it. When you think of bad business practices, Patrick McManus should pop into your head! Plus I just bought a tv that smoked when I turned it on and I once got a laptop with just the outer casing, no motherboard, hd, nothing. Amongst other junk. No happy bidding at McManus Auctions. This is Charles S. I decided to read the Yelp reviews. I used Patrick for about a year. I found him very pleasing and a nice guy. He took the time to talk to me and we had some great conversations. I do not believe he is what other people wrote. He is a small business owner that grew fast. My first items he listed were a mix of collectibles. I was happy with the results. I did not expect much it relates to pricing. I believe I had 15 boxes full of stuff. I did not have room in my car so the driver pick up my items. I would say there were 200 items to list, and it took only a couple of weeks to do this. I received a check within 10 days. That was fine with me. I used him another 6-7 times and he did well . I listed on one auction all silver coins and I mean a lot of them. It brought a couple of thousand dollars for me. He has grown and I think what people don't understand when this happens it makes it difficult to hire more help. The reason is simple. Will the business stay the same or will it drop off. We have been going to McManus auctions for years. I miss the ability to go to "live" auctions. ( Thank you, covid) Patrick has always run a fair and honest auction. I've been going to Mcmanus auctions for over three years now. I met the owner several times and his family. He was kind, but short when you questioned how he handled issues at the business. While I had good experiences, the bad out weights the good and I will never use this cheap and pathetic auction house again. First off, DON"T CONSIGN YOUR STUFF TO THERE AUCTION! Unlike real auction houses, these guys don't research your product or even READ the details you give them. When you do IN-take for the auctions they give you a sheet and tell you to give them detaisl for them to use in the listing. They did not use them at all, ever. Last week, I gave Mcmanus Auctions a Franklin Mint Replica of a Julius Caesar Legion Dagger. As the seller, it is important that they get all the details correct, so I can maximize the amount I can make on my item. Mcmanus ignored the fact I told them exactly what the item was and they called it a "Fantasy Dagger" and added the latin phrase on the dagger (As though any of the bidders read latin). Then the photo was one photo from a distance of the flat dagger. How is that suppose to sell my dagger for top dollar? It didn't and I got as of the final day of the auction, my $250 dagger had bids of $3. Then buying from this place is even worse. I bought two TVs, neither worked. I was able to return them. I bought two vintage Daisy BB guns. Neither worked, both were broke. They weren't advertised as broke, but the rip off Patrick Mcmanus doesn't care. After he told me he fixed the dagger listing ONLY after I complained, it didn't change. I then asked him to remove it because I'd rather not get $3 for it. He got angry and threatened me because I said his listing person didn't list my item correctly, and I was CORRECT. For a man who carries a sidearm in his business, he shouldn't be threatening customers. In the end, Patrick removed my 5 items and then charged me a $100 removal fee and I have yet to pay that or get my stuff back. If you like buying junk, go here. If you like to sell your stuff for pennies on the dollar because this auction house is a joke, go here. I even offered my 25 years of collectibles and selling online experience to help him and he got offended. My daughter and I recently won several items from the recent Carrie Fisher/Debbie Reynolds estate. Among the items was a pair of old wooden sconces from Debbie's Beverly Hills home that had a lot of delicate detail in them from the Corinthian style architecture. When everything arrived, a significant portion of the sconces' filigree was broken into many small to medium sized pieces lying at the bottom of the box. When I contacted McManus on the damage, they initially responded stating that the sconces were already damaged, but the lot description never indicated that on their website. The photos didn't show any broken components lying next to them either. The photos clearly indicated that the sconces were quite intact for their age. Some of the larger pieces that were broken off when I received the sconces also show that they were originally intact in the site's photos. This is a blatant misrepresentation! McManus followed by saying that they were not responsible for any damage and that said that I would have to file a claim with the shippers. I filed a claim with FedEx in an attempt to get it resolved one way or another. Upon careful review of the claim, FedEx determined that the items were poorly packed. I then followed up with having a known professional archivist/restoration person in the Denver area review the damage, who also explained that the damage was the result of poor packing and that the repair would cost upwards of $1,000.00. I apprised McManus of FedEx's response and the restorer's response and the estimate for the repair. McManus reacted by saying that they wouldn't pay for any repairs, and instead, offered me my money back for the lot, which is essentially an admission of guilt. I responded back to McManus reminded them that at the time they sent the sconces, I OWNED THEM and that they ultimately damaged my property that is now in need of repair. All I asked for was that the items be restored. It is clear that McManus has little integrity and no business auctioning historical items that require great care. I paid handsomely for the shipping that should have covered any costs in providing whatever extra care the sconces required to be shipped safely. Certainly, Mrs. Reynolds would have been heartbroken to learn of how these items she treasured were treated in the end! I highly recommend that you steer clear of doing any business with McManus as they are dishonest and clearly demonstrate that they have little respect for the clients' property once their items are won. At this juncture, I believe that some of the damage to the sconces may have possibly occurred before they were put on the auction block, but never properly identified on their website leaving unsuspecting bidders unaware of the damage. I also believe that the remaining damage was caused by poor packing. It would really be nice to have this problem resolved fairly and honestly. read more

Buyer be ware of buying sports card lots. The lots are cherry picked , I recent purchased several lots and 1 lot showed loose cards in a box and 3 sealed packs. When I picked them up 2 of the sealed packs were missing and the 3rd pack was opened an put back in the box. Out of 20,000 cards no rookies, no star qbs, maybe 30 inserts. 99.9% of the cards were base cards. Will not be suckered again. Be warned read more

Let me start off by saying that I am not a person who normally writes reviews.I honestly couldn't tell you when the last time was, if ever. This company and the owner deserve 100% of every bad review that they receive. My first visit was last week and when I pulled up I was greeted by kids which where asking me if I would like some lemonade. I thought that was cute and from being from the south I immediately knew that I was at a family owned company. I proceeded inside where I stood for 10 min before someone finally ask me if they could help. Mind you that I was the only one standing at the counter and there where people walking all around me without any greeting, good morning, may I help you, hello, etc.. you know just common decency and professionalism. A employee then approached me and asked for my invoice #. That's when he looked at my invoice and started to laugh. I asked why he was laughing and he simply said that he was laughing because I was buying girl stuff. How disrespectful and unprofessional can you be. I calmly left that day and went on my way. I thought maybe it was just 1 bad apple so I was going to give McManus another chance. I gave the company another try, and I did business with them again last night (Oct. 18, 2020) I had bid a little over $200 with the items I bid on, and won. My invoice was for over $600. I immediately called the ONLY phone # on the website, to contact an employee, or anyone to help me understand the confusion I had. I Unknowingly and unfortunately had the displeasure of speaking with the owner for the first time. He was out right rude and wanted to make sure that I was VERY aware that I was calling him while he was at his house and that he would pay back me tomorrow, (after charging my card first) IF anything was wrong with my invoice. So I was to deal with the charge for now, and I could get a refund back MAYBE, if HE felt there was a mistake, maybe sometime tomorrow..wow..completely in shock with this company at this point. I'm up this morning expecting to go pick up my stuff and take care of the mix up on my invoice. I was greeted by a very nice lady. I told her the issue and she went to inquire about the mistake on my invoice. After going to the back of the warehouse several times,(where I could hear them going back and forth about who was responsible for the incorrect description, and selling details in the ads that I bid on.) Apparently the chairs I bid on was supposed to say price x4. Saying price x4 would indicate that you would pay 4 times the amount of the bid shown on the ad that the item is being bid on. After 20 minutes of trying to figure out a way to still charge me, the owner finally walked up and said ok we have a little problem. He said that he got them from the Wynn and he was basically going to be losing money. Unfortunately that's not my problem being that the mistake was his/his company and he tried everything he could to find a way to charge me. He then walked up to me and asked me if I would make a deal.Out of our principal I very calmly begun to explain my experiences with him. He quickly became agitated and walked away.He returned immediately and then stated that he didn't want to do business with me and for me to get out. That was clearly a cop out for him not wanting to lose money on his own ignorance and negligence. The cat is out of the bag!! If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck its probably a duck! I've been a buyer for years and used McManus to sell my Aunts coins after she passed. I sell on eBay and estimated they'd bring about $15,000. Took them to one of the many gold and silver buyers and and was offered $11,500. I offered them to Patrick who split them up over three auctions. This is a great auction house! Great finds and the staff is generally very helpful. The reason why I am not giving McManus a 5 star rating is due to the lack of supervision from parents when bringing their small children. This past auction was particularly difficult (3/11/18), as there were more children than usual; running around, touching and playing with the merchandise and crying. Even though the auctioneer asked the parents several times to tend to their children... the parents ignored the auctioneer. We love kids, however, an auction is not a child's playground. A policy to not bring small children under the age of 10 would be optimal. read more

I purchased a lot of 10,000,000 Venezuelan Bolivar (100 - 100,000 notes). When I received it, the band wrapping it said 63 - 100,000. The band was not present in the photos presented. Well even with a public school education you can tell that it does not equal 10 million Bolivar. We counted it multiple times, actually 64 Bolivar, but still short by 36. I had purchased a lot of the same item previously so I got it out and checked it. Sure enough, short. I only received 80 instead of 100. This time the band was in the photo. So this seems to be a pattern. Incorrectly describe and item, you pay for said item and the shipping, and they send you something of lesser value. To me that is fraud. Contacted the owner, was told to feel free to shop elsewhere or return, at my expense, for a refund. I am going to chose to shop elsewhere. Don't buy from them, they will cheat you. read more

i sent a beautiful antique oak refractory table and 4 matching chairs,,,and a curved front antique china cabinet 5 ft tall the auction was sun aug 18. on aug 20, i called to see if it sold...i was told at that moment that it did and i will get a check for 37,70 i said that cant be and that i sold a belgium table & a cabinet with 3 shelves.. .this is a blantent lie and like every one else has said he is a lying thief and a fraud ...i never knew of him, i did tell gina his family member ,,,i never sold at a auction....he can get away with this because its considered a civil matter told to me by my detective family member. i called him and said make it right , you took my fine antique items which you probably gave to them...or one of your friends that writes fake good reviews for you.......people beware of this auction,,, read more

We used McManus to auction some very high end furniture. Excellent shape and almost brand new. Obviously they start the auction at $1.00 because some things sold for $35.00 dollars when originally cost $3000.00. Value of items picked up were $25,000.00 and we received a check for $440.00. I wish we were educated better as I would have donated all of the items or given them away. I recommend learning more about the entire process before you use these guys. This auction house sold us a fake knockoff purse and a few other junk items. When I asked the owner if we could return the purse (which I paid well over its worth) he stated "it wasn't his problem." Very unprofessional and a ripoff to say the least. The owner has a look of crazy when he gets upset. Not a place I would recommend buying stuff from. read more
