Forget about Red Door, this is the place to go if you want to leave refreshed, relaxed and revitalized. I've visited this spa about 7 times since I've moved to VA and I would definitely live there if I had the expendable income to do so! I absolutely love this place. My best and my most favorite facials and massages were done here, by Randy and Maria. From what I remember, I believe Randy has over 20 years experience in professional massage, so this man knows his stuff! Maria facials are exquisite and her facial massage is ethereal. I really wanted to love this place, especially because the owner was incredibly warm and lovely. I actually felt badly leaving a negative review, so I reached out to the spa privately before posting this to share my experience with them first. Unfortunately, my experience with the glycolic peel was not a good one. The esthetician was late, and the appointment felt hurried and somewhat stressed from there. During the treatment, water was accidentally splashed onto my chest, and later some of the glycolic peel actually got into my eye, which was pretty startling. There was also a communication barrier that made it difficult to ask questions about what she was doing. I've had peels before, so I was surprised that I felt absolutely nothing from this one -- no tingling or sensation at all -- even after several layers were applied. I mentioned this during the appointment, but a week later I still had no peeling, dryness, change in texture, or really any noticeable response from my skin. At $200, I left feeling disappointed and, unfortunately, like I hadn't gotten what I paid for. I want to be fair in saying that the owner herself was truly lovely, and I can see from other reviews that many people have had wonderful experiences here, particularly with the massages. I can only speak to my own experience with this particular service and esthetician, but based on that experience, I wouldn't recommend the glycolic peel. read more

Let me first say that I've never gotten any facial treatments in the past, so I don't really have a way of comparing my experience with previous facial experiences because I've never gotten any. However, I have a wonderful experience here. A lovely friend of mine gave me a gift certificate for a facial massage for my last birthday. Almost six months later (today), I finally carved out the time to make use of it and I'm so glad I did. The spa is tucked in a little plaza-ish location off Old Dominion, across from a Joe's Burger's and other assorted eateries I've never paid much attention to. You lie under heated blankets while Maria first cleans your face quickly with soap and toner then applies a steamed towel to your face (opens up the pores, I suppose). There's some sort of apparatus to blow steam across your face -- but it's just the right temperature so don't worry -- then skillfully rubs massage oil across your face. She's very gentle around the nose and applied just the right pressure around my chin and jaw. There is soothing keyboard music playing in the background and the lights are dimmed. I nearly fell asleep b/c it was all so pleasant; I can't remember the last time my mind was free from impending to-do's. Maria also told me for the most part what she was doing ("first I'm going to [do this or that]" then "now I'm going to [do this or that]"). This was a facial massage, not a facial, but quite frankly, my skin could probably use a facial b/c it's not very clear right now. I read on their website that they don't try to push products at you and true to their word, Maria didn't do that, which was nice. However, at the end, Maria did keep stressing that I could benefit from a facial, etc etc. She even gave me a $25 gift certificate for a future facial. Granted, I'd have to use it towards their Biorenu Facial, which is the most expensive facial on their Services list (it's $155) and I probably won't be able to afford that. Still though, my experience here with Maria was wonderful so I would love to come back (though for a less expensive service) in the future. read more

I was gifted a facial while I was on vacation. I left feeling like i had a vacation within a vacation. It was the most amazing 60 minutes, I have ever had. my face is glowing, I am rejuvenated and can tackle my 6 hour ride home in the rain without a care in the world. I've been coming here for a year or two (or three?) for massages. Randy does a great job. He goes deep where it's needed and not so deep when it's not. He chats when I want to chat and doesn't when I don't. He uses heated stones and a massage oil that is somehow odorless and weightless. I'm feeling more relaxed just thinking about a massage. You can buy gift certificates online for last minutes gifts (which is what my husband did for my first visit here). You can also get lovely facials (but I much prefer massages over facials). Came into town for the weekend to celebrate my birthday and luckily had checked with their availability earlier that week and luckily they were able to fit me in for a 60 min massage & 60 min facial Friday morning. Greg gave me my massage & I can't quite remember the esthetician's name but they were both so amazing!! Even the owner i believe went out of her way to make me feel welcome. McLean Face and Body Spa provides has provided best therapeutic massages I have ever had (and I've had plenty). I am an athlete with a chronic lower back injury- I have been going to Randy for years and he has a tremendous amount of knowledge on human anatomy. Randy is incredibly attentive to your personal concerns/issues and tailors a massage to your body. He has even spent time showing me stretches to do on my own to help relax my lower back and ease pain. On top of Randy being an incredible massage therapist- McLean Face and Body is clean, calm, and relaxing. I have always felt very comfortable going there and it never looks like there was another person in the room before you. When McLean Face and Body Spa announced that they had hired Greg, a massage therapist who specializes in pain, I was immediately intrigued. I had been suffering with cervical pain since before COVID. I had tried muscle relaxers, pain meds, electrical stem, heat, etc. to no avail. I booked a focused massage with Greg as soon as the spa was opened post shelter in place. Greg was very professional. The spa took all measures to protect me and the staff from COVID. Greg did not disappoint! He was very skilled and knowledgeable. He worked on my neck and shoulders thoroughly and expertly. He explained the process and gave me exercises to use to continue the healing. I am so pleased and am almost completely pain free after one session with Greg! I've had therapeutic massages in luxury resorts and many day spas. My experience at McLean Face and Body did not impress me very much. My masseuse did an adequate job, but I was not very relaxed or totally comfortable during the session. The massage room is kept at a pretty cold temperature -- and on 15 degree days in January, that's not what you want. So for my massage my hands were like ice cubes. In addition to being cold, I couldn't help but notice sounds from everywhere -- conversations in the reception room, plumbing noises (water running), and the traffic outside. For a top scale day spa, one thing that CAN and SHOULD be controlled is the environment of the massage room: get a thermostat and keep the room at 72 degrees; invest in some sound insulation for the walls and door/window so that they only thing the client hears is the soothing sounds of the music. For much less money, you can have a better experience at Massage Envy. PS - Parking was not ideal, as I had to circle the lot twice to get a spot. read more

Waited to post this review to see how my body felt days after my massage with Randy. I mean we all feel great when we leave BUT after my massage with Randy, all those aching parts, knots and annoying aches are either gone or not a bother to me right now and its been 2 weeks post deep tissue massage. I love to workout and I feel that taking care of your body should be part of your routine. I will definitely come back for another massage since this has been the BEST massage I've had in this area. As far as facials, I've been coming to this place for years and Maria is the real deal. My current go to facial is the Bio-renu. You know what she does is working when people say OMG you have such beautiful skin and also I feel like my face is so clean and light. I've been searching for a homey spot for regular facials for quite a few years, and I think I've found it! I am also more than glad to support a local small business that does a spectacular job. Maria is great at what she does - quick, efficient and your skin feels clean and relaxed after a facial. Moreover, the facials seem to last beyond your next face washing. Most important to me is she actually does extractions, which seem increasingly rare in this area. She also uses the Clarisonic and offers tips and advice on how to use this great tool based what she sees during the facial. I'm a massage junkie, and I freely admit my obsession. Randy is, by far, the best masseuse I've been to in over 15 years. Don't let the small size and location throw you off. This is a family-owned business, which I've been visiting for over 6 years, and it's located in a very unassuming spot next to a bank. It's not jazzed up like a top-tier spa, so yes, you will on occasion hear a person say good bye or hello as they walk in. It's not distracting at all. Randy is also extremely accommodating, and will adjust temperature as needed. I saw that complaint in another review...but like any other person, he's not a mind reader, so you do have to actually say something if your experience isn't ideal. As far as pure technique, I had migraines for years that no medication could counter. I went to Randy twice a month for a few months, and my migraine frequency has been reduced to a tenth of what it used to be, even 4 years later. He's my go to for any injury, migraine, arthritis, fibromyalgia, or just a need for relaxation. Don't miss out! read more

I was able to book a prenatal massage and facial with less than 24 hours notice; and the special they were running was good...2 hour long services for $150. When I arrived, Maria was very nice an welcoming and they showed me to the massage room. I had an amazing prenatal massage with Brittany, followed by a facial with Maria. I have never been treated so rudely at a spa before and, while anyone can have a bad day, it's best not take it out on random customers. I felt tense and uncomfortable through the entire treatment and it kind of ruined my day. Apologizing profusely as I'm leaving honestly only made it worse because it made it more awkward. I have had many massages around town but never as good as Randy. If you like to walk out of a massage like you have had a massage, this is where to go. As others have said, Randy knows how to get the knots out and have you so relaxed you don't want the massage to end. I also have to whole heartedly endorse the facial. Hurt so good! He did ask numerous times if it was too much pressure - so my appreciation of the discomfort shouldn't put anyone off. Great massage. Got a facial from Maria a week ago. A few great things - nice and relaxing, though I'm more likely to return for a massage - but no skin breakout as I have had previously getting facials, and no pressure buying their goods. Elizabeth gave me a great massage. She really puts her whole effort into the massage. She works, pulls and stretches the muscles so well. I felt like a rag doll, a very sleepy rag doll, when she was done. Maria was good at the facial. The massage room does need some sound proofing. The overall ambience could use some 'warming up' in terms of color and decor to feel more like a spa that one can retreat to. I received a facial here. I would summarize it as mediocre. I liked the exfoliating tool they use. But in general, this was a nothing special standard facial. Also, the aesthetician left the room for 10 minutes while one of the masks was setting. This is always a major red flag and turn off for me... I can lay at home for 10 min with a mask, I'm paying for the overall experience and there are many other things that could be done during that time that are standard at many other spas (like massaging the neck, shoulder, scalp, hand, feet). read more

I read a lot of reviews in looking for a place to have a facial, and settled on this place in part due to the Yelp reviews - and the yelp reviewers didn't let me down. Going in, my skin was dry and tired looking. The facial was super relaxing (i actually dozed off twice), Maria explained each step and its purpose, and I left there with noticeably improved skin. Its now two weeks later, and my skin has continued to look and feel so much better and friends have asked where I went as they can see such a noticeable difference. I actually created a yelp account to write about this amazing place. I've come here multiple times over the years which i just chanced upon. Basically this place is a small location with two rooms next to a Chipotle. But don't be deceived by this. There are two massage people (one male and one female). I've heard great things about both but I've only had massages by Randy. Randy will talk out with you to figure out exactly what you're looking for in a massage. He can make the massage as strong or gentle as neccessary and will even work out specific kinks in your body. Its also great to know that if during the massage you want to talk you can talk and if you just want it quiet, he'll do that too. Basically this is your massage and you get what YOU want out of it. And what a massage. My body comes out feeling better every time I go there. In talking with Randy it seems that he tries to stay current on techniques and keeping his knowledge up to date. This is blatantly obvious during the massage. Maria is the skin expert who does the facials. While I've had far fewer facials in my life that massages, I just know my skin comes out ridiculously soft every time I leave there. If I'm having some facial issues, she tells me what to do in the meantime between facials and gets my skin straightened out. The first time I went there, I just got a facial to give it a shot. Basically, she showed me that facials can be just as relaxing as Randy's crazy good massages. You fall asleep while Maria just pulls out lotions, cool machines, and gently works on your face. She also explains each step which helps a novice like me. She also has a crazy amount of products that you can buy there but you're never pressured into a purchase. I'm just a regular jane schmane who doesn't make crazy amounts of money but likes to treat herself every few months to a facial and massage. Randy and Maria have never made me feel like a second class citizen in their very classy and fancy boutique spa. You're welcome to go to a bigger nicer place, where you're judged by your clothes and how often you go there. I've found those places often rely on the name of the place and the set up of the location and don't treat you like a special customer once you're there. While there are downsides to this place, (location is not accessible to public transportation and its definitely not cheap), they are not deal breakers. You may need a car to get there, but this also means its not jam packed and impossible to get an appointment. It may not be cheap, but that's because they offer a service with real benefits that you feel for days after you leave. Basically, I highly recommend. read more

I hurt my lower back on vacation and when I returned I went to McLean Face and Body to have it worked on. I had facials there and really enjoyed them (very cleansing and relaxing) so I thought I would get a massage there as well. I told my massage therapist what had happened with my back and he paid special attention to not only that area, but also other areas and trigger points that effect my back. He worked on my cafs a bit and asked me if my cafs were tight 'and I said "kinda". He said that's what he thought was causing my pain and to make sure that I stretch well before I run. Not only was it relaxing and the best massage I have ever had (why bother having one on vacation when you have the best right in McLean!) it also completely fixed my back issues! What a nice place! I just starting getting photofacials from Maria and she's just wonderful. As part of the photofacial, she cleaned my face with a Clairsonic beforehand and used a calming mask afterward. The place has a very homey feel -- no counter as you enter, just a nice living room set up. Its the perfect place to unwind and treat yourself. Prices are very good, especially if you can take advantange of one of their promotions. Definitely worth a try. read more
