They only had a couple vendors in the lobby, but it was still nice to drop in and have an excuse to grab a holiday drink. Pro tip - do not sit at the bar if you're hoping to watch planes. There's no good window to look out of when sitting at the bar. I wish I asked for a table since it wasn't too busy!! I had the hot cocoa drink and it was delicious! Hit the spot and definitely made me warm and fuzzy. Our bartender was so great and we had the best time. I'm definitely coming back and sitting at a table facing a window.

The dining area is so noisy, and the tables are jammed into each other - there is no way to get in or out without bumping into another chair - but for good food at acceptable prices, it was worth it. After the last visit, the food isn't worth it for me. On this most recent stop, several of the regular items i had gotten had been discontinued, and I could find nothing else that was appealing, so I went with their omelette special. It was disgusting. I ate the individual elements by themselves, so that it wouldn't be a total waste, but much of the bacon just tasted bad - not undercooked - just bad, like they didn't know how to make bacon. The decline in food quality seems to mimic the overall decline in this establishent. I can't foresee ever going back. PS The Service was good.

Didn't hate and didn't love. I'm mostly excited to know that Union Depot isn't on life support as I…read moreonce thought it was. My family stumbled across 1881after attending the North Pole Express. To my surprise, the interior of the depot is full of life, varying stores and amongst the commotion, 1881. 1881 sits inside the depot boasting an open air concept as there's no walls resembling a giant patio. The host was really sweet and we were able to score a table with no reservation on a Sunday. Breakfast is served until 4 pm which is a win in my book! Service and staff dress attire is polished resembling the sister company, Lake Elmo Inn. By design, 1881 is a higher end cuisine yet by no means it the dress code of customers required to be fancy. I ordered the Korean Beef Bowl and it was okay. The presentation was 100% there but I felt like it could use more sauce. It was very healthy for sure! Other items at my table included wings, berry salad, burger and spaghetti which goes to show the wide variety of options. While I can't say that I would actively go back at my own free will because that area of town is not something I do frequently along with the disconnected parking lot, I recommend stopping if you're at the depot for sure. Thank you, 1881! Glad to see a business occupy this space.

If you're dining with children, request the couch seating area. It offers noticeably more flexibility and breathing room compared to the standard tables, which makes a difference in such a compact restaurant. As for the food: while I don't doubt that other menu items are solid, the Korean gochujang bowl fell flat for me. The flavor profile was fairly plain, and while hot sauce was available, it didn't complement the dish--it felt mismatched rather than additive. The three-star rating reflects a combination of factors: the tight space, the added hassle of the train station location, and a main dish that didn't quite deliver. Not a bad experience, but not one that fully lived up to expectations either.

We started with Ahi Tuna Crisp appetizer - we substituted the cracker for cucumber. This twist makes it so fresh. The sauce is a bit tangy and avocado balances the tuna. So yummy! I opted for a cheeseburger - very good smash burger. I have had the Double Double in the past and that is probably my favorite burger with two smash burger patties, cheese and special sauce. Can't miss on the regular fries. Crispy and delicious!

I made a last-minute reservation online, which was quick and seamless. Parking was easy enough, there's a small lot, plus plenty of street parking options. We were seated right away when we arrived, though unfortunately at a very small two-person table with very limited space. It worked out, but next time I'd definitely request something a bit roomier. We arrived during happy hour but skipped it since we didn't want to spoil our meals. For dinner, I ordered the double barrel burger with a side of fries, and my friend got the fried chicken sandwich with a side of fries. I enjoyed my meal, however, my friend thought the food was very salty and that maybe the chicken sandwich was fried in the same oil as the fish as it didn't taste much like chicken. We thought the portions were big enough that we had leftovers to take home. Service was just okay...nothing particularly memorable. The most uncomfortable part of the experience was our table location right by the door. It felt like people were constantly hovering nearby or watching us while waiting for a table, which made it a bit awkward. Almost like we better hurry up and eat. Overall, a decent meal.
