Wow I can't say enough about this company!! They were professional and very accommodating from the beginning. We weren't able to give much notice but they were able to move some things around and squeeze us in on a day they were booked for. We were told they would shoot for between 2 and 3 pm. The day before our move, we were exhausted and not prepared. We called McKendree and asked if they could add another guy, because we were not even close to being prepared enough for the movers to come. The owner was so kind and said he could send his nephew (who was working for money for college during the summer) to our house in the morning to help gets us packed. His nephew showed up at 8 am. He definitely had his work cut out for him. What a respectful kind and efficient worker! The movers showed up at 2:15 as promised and worked until almost 11pm. We had some difficult stairs and angles to get around and they maneuvered our furniture delicately with ease. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and they were hard workers. Run for this company. I hired McKendree moving services to move us out our home, store our items for 30 days and move us in our new house once it was ready. I can honestly admit the move out was smooth. I was truly impressed. However, the move in was a complete disaster. I had so many glasses and dishes broken. Also, our 2 big televisions were damaged. Just notice yesterday my daughter tv is damaged as well, the color keeps going in and out. Nonetheless, my husband had 3 pair of tennis shoes stolen and many other items broken including my daughters dresser drawer. This company has cost me so much money. My mother recently moved from Washington DC to Charlotte, NC and we used McKendree Moving and Storage. My mother as well as myself were super pleased with the service they provided. Tommy, the leader of the crew, was very meticulous with packing and padding. Not one piece of china or piece of furniture endured any damage. He also ran a tight ship, my Mom's house was wrapped and packed all under about 2 hours. Joel was our consultant who came to our home and was very courteous with our belongings and home. He took a thorough inventory, and gave clear instructions for moving day. We hired McKendree to help us unload our pods. No one wanted to help us because our shipment came from Florida during a pandemic. (In case you aren't aware pods are in transport for over a week so there was no pandemic issues) Two guys unloaded our Pods in like 2 1/2 hours. I believe the one guys name is Jupiter and he was phenomenal. The hustled their butts off and even helped us get temporary furniture out to put our furniture in. The laid coverings over my hard wood and even asked where to actually PLACE items. We had boxes marked by rooms and they put them nicely in the room that was marked. They were on time (I think maybe even early). It was SUPER hot that day and they went full speed. I was sweating and I was inside just answering questions. We used McKendree to move long distance. Excellent service from the beginning. Matt came to the house explained everything and answered all our questions perfectly. His quote was right in, no hidden fees, no nickel and dining us. The day of the move they showed upon time were professional and took great care of our stuff and stored it for 3 months. We also had a second pick up at a later date. They called after the pick up concerned about possible missing pieces, the slats for a bed frame. I thanked them and explained we don't need the slats. After a quote of $856 for 4 hours, 3 men, and truck, I decided to hire McKendree. Initially, my move was scheduled for Tuesday, 6/23/2015 in the a.m.; however, my settlement did not occur until Tuesday, 6/23/2015 @ 2pm. I talked to Joan, an employee of McKendree Moving & Storage, (McKendree), and she told me to let her know ASAP of when settlement is. Once I did, Joan said they could move me on the same day as settlement, June 23, 2015. The movers were supposed to arrive between 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. but they did not arrive until 2:00 p.m. On Tuesday, June 23, 2015, McKendree Moving and Storage, ("McKendree"), moved my furniture from my apartment to my house. Below, are the following problems encountered: The movers: * Put a hole in my bedroom wall. * Did not put up my dresser mirror. * Left their wrappings/coverings in one of the bedrooms. * When they brought in my living room furniture, they left the plastic wrapping and placed them in a position where you cannot sit on them. * My living room chair is missing the 4 legs. * They claim they could not bring up my queen box spring. They spent about 30-45 minutes trying. * They did not even try to bring up my daughter's queen box spring. o (Once they left, my daughters brought up BOTH box springs in under 10 minutes.) * The movers did not come prepared. We waited approximately 3 hours waiting for another mover to bring the proper tools to dissemble our beds. * My daughter's bed was broken. * Missing a box of clothes? During the move, it started raining, thundering, and lightning. One of the movers came into the house and said he does not move during lightning storms and proceeded to sit in the truck. After a while, my daughters went onto the truck to start moving the furniture because it was getting very late. After the move, the same mover charged me $1600 for working from 2pm to 10pm. I told the guy that I was not paying anything until I talked to Joan. He was very adamant about me signing the form, which I refused to do. When I explained why I was not going to sign, he kept saying "That's not my job; that's not my fault." He refused to leave... The next morning, I spoke to Joan, who began defending the movers. After a while, I told her the problems I encountered with the movers. She said that the matter needed to go to the next level. Later that morning, the owner called and once again, started defending his workers "and" that with them moving me at the last minute, they did me a favor. The owner also said that he was willing to knock off 1 1/2 hours of time from my invoice. I told the owner that I am not paying for anything above 3 1/2 - 4 hours worth of work. He was very quiet. He stated that without them, we probably would not have been moved because of the 4th of July. I explained to the owner that it does not matter if they squeezed me in or if he "thought" his company was doing me a favor, it did not excuse the poor quality of work. We kept going back and forth and I told him that I am more than prepared to take this matte further (I had taken pictures). He told me to go ahead... After a while, the owner and I finally agreed of a price of $825. The owner also said that he obviously handled the matter poorly, which I told him he did. After the call, my daughter said that one of the movers told her to call me and let me know they accept tips. I immediately called the owner and told him, who dropped the price down to $795. He said the worker who said that would be fired. I went ahead and paid because they company did provide a service, so I felt they should have received something. Today, 7/3/2015, I am still unpacking and finding things the movers failed to do. Although I have sent them an email, (through their online form), requesting them to show me how to file a claim, they have not responded. read more

We used McKendree when we moved from Southern Maryland to Montgomery County. They gave the best quote and sounded most sincere, so we chose them. We are so glad we did! All of their workers were polite, professional, friendly, hard workers. The older gentleman took care of our grand piano. He did far better job than the piano movers we hired recently. I was told the movers would arrive at 9 AM. They arrived after 11 AM. I had prepared everything to facilitate a quick move from a one-bedroom apartment to a storage unit two blocks from the apartment. I had put all items but furniture in sealed boxes, which I put by the elevator but out of the way for the furniture prior to their arrival. I was preparing to deploy to Southwest Asia and had a lot to get done that day; expected to finish no later than 3 PM. The move should have taken a generous maximum of six hours based on prior moves and my level of preparation. They disappeared periodically, including for three hours mid-day when they said they had been arranging items in the truck (they had moved two items out of the apartment at that point). They finished at 9:30 PM and handed me a bill for over 12 hours work, showing they had arrived at 9 AM. I said, "You didn't arrive at 9." He said, "I don't really know when I got there, to be honest with you." The bill also added travel time to the move time in addition to the fixed fee for travel to and from my home. I said, "You didn't work 12 hours." He said, "Well, we still have to get home and I live way out in ---." I was deploying in two days and didn't have time to address it. I cut about 1.5 hrs off, should have cut far more, paid the bill, and annotated that I was not satisfied. No one from the firm called to learn why I was not satisfied. I didn't give the lowest possible rating, because I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they had taken care with the furniture. When I returned over a year later, I found they had significantly damaged my furniture. read more

I moved just a couple miles away. I was charged for 3 men for the day, but one of them left after a short time, had to go to school, he said. I found many broken items, and even more distressing, many, many of my belongings did not get to me, although it was a short move. They are just missing. Some costly items, some family heirlooms and much of the pantry never made it. After many phone calls to their office I filed a form with them for broken and missing items. That was 3 months ago and I never heard back from McKendree. I am disgusted, sad, and so sorry that I chose McKendree. Oh, by the way, they overcharged me so much that I am ashamed to admit that they got me so badly. PS, I also gave them a nice tip, but that was before I discovered how badly I was treated. I had to move out of my house temporarily and I picked McKendree as my packer/mover. The move part went great - or so I thought. They came on time, the movers were pleasant and professional and I thought all was good. It turned out - they were not careful in how they packed items because a number of small things were damaged - including all my lamp shades, several bowls broken, a table had huge hunks of wood removed and my kitchen table top was somehow dislodged from the base (after many prior moves). I filed the claim with photos promptly and then waited and called trying to get the damage repaired. Finally, they got an appointment for me with the repair person and guess what - there is a $100 deductible. Looking again at the contract - it is there - so they are legally right - but this is a bad business practice. In speaking with the claims manager, he stated they can't waive the $100 deductible - they have it in place to avoid $5 and $10 claims and that essentially "no move will go without some damage". Then he equated it with an auto accident and the existence of a deductible. Trouble is - in an auto accident - whoever is at fault covers the deductible. I had no fault here and yet here I have to pay to fix damage they did. They are legally right, but morally wrong.
