It's always nerve-wracking taking your pet to a new and unknown vet or animal place of any sort (For the real pet parents out there). I needed to keep my sweet kitty somewhere while I stayed with family that's severely allergic, so we found McKee's for a few day kitty day care. The place was pretty clean and straightforward. They were super nice and it seemed that they took pretty good care of my cat. Plus, the price was really reasonable, so despite my uneasiness, it worked out pretty well. It took me a while to find a place that accepts aggressive looking dog like my dear dog Chase. They have a dedicated place for dogs like him. He stayed for 8 nights, he is 7 yrs old. First time I took him to boarding house was 5 years ago, after one night they called me to take him back. McKee Pet Place did extra effort to make him comfortable, I believe. 11 days now since I picked him up from this place and I think he is a better dog than before. I am planning to take him here once a month, maybe, if I have money to spare, just for him to be used to it and somehow be close to other dogs and humans. I was using McKees for daycare services until a couple weeks ago..I got a call from one of the staff that there had been an incident with my English Bulldog and another dog. My dog was left with a nasty deep cut in her left ear (pic attached). I was told that my bully was sitting by the gate area where dogs enter/exit and had got "caught" in the rush of dogs to the door. Staff wrote it off as minor and no big deal. I spoke to the manager Kim who was not helpful at all..said there is nothing that could have been done to prevent the injury. So she basically told me dogs will get hurt at her facility. I was upset, however, because in 3 years of taking my dog to multiple daycare centers she had never taken an injury like this. She is a super calm dog and never has gotten aggressive with any dog and vice versa. Because of this incident I find her a lot more nervous around other dogs..borderline aggressive. Will have to do some retraining to get her right. I don't trust McKees staff as it was either a supervision issue or just too many dogs period to ensure safety. IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS I WOULD!!!!! Apparently, after a year of my dogs going there, one of my dogs is now all of a sudden "banned" from daycare. NO COMMUNICATION whatsoever that my dog was needing to be "worked with." SPENT MOST OF THE TIME IN TIME OUT without ever telling me there was an ongoing issue. Upon pick up I was told that my dog had been in time out within 5 minutes of getting there. I drop my dog off at 730 in the morning and they did not call until 430. So my dog spent his whole day in time out and you couldn't call before then? All I got from the staff was "someone should have told you before." Not helpful at all. What a joke. Just wanting to take your money. Do not have your pets best interest in mind at all. I felt horrible for my dog. He drank four bowls of water when we got home and urinated for 3 minutes straight. Doggy day care has to be the best invention ever for people with busy lives and or disabled people like myself! I have been coming here for a couple of years now and my dog goes absolutely bonkers if I even say the word day and care in the same sentence! $22.00 for a full day of play, heated and covered pool almost an acre of room to run inside play area for rainy days not to mention the best staff ever !!! The whole staff loves every animal that comes here! They know them by name, they know each animals personality and how to deal with each one! You can tell everyone there absolutely loves what they do and every time I drop my dog off they greet him and make him so much more excited to be there he just losses his mind!!! Now mind you my dog was very skittish of strangers and didn't like a lot of affection and would nip at some people, since coming here he has really opened up and accepts hugs and petting from everyone even if he doesn't know them and he never nips at anyone of them. The best part, I am disabled and my lab is 85lbs and strong and very rough, which makes it impossible for me to exercise him or play with him enough, so it starts to make him a little nutty being cooped up all the time. So I started taking him here 1-2 a week and when I pick him up he is panting so hard and is so worn out from playing that when we get home he pretty much collapses and sleeps for a few days!!!!!! Not to mention he is very pliable and minds me until he gets all rested then it's time to go back. Dropping off is super quick and easy they have runners that immediately grab the leash when you walk in and take them to play with the group. Pick up is the same you walk in and of course they know immediately who you are and they go get them leashed up and bring them out by the time your done paying and your off! My dog gives me kisses the whole way there when we go to the point I have to bring a towel with me because I'm soaking wet afterwards!! FYI this is the ONLY time he does this EVER! I've been taking my bull terrier here for five years now. Not every stay is perfect, but for the most part they do a great job keeping my dog happy and entertained. It's clear that they care about their residents LOL and love playing with them. Very friendly staff and clean environment. I recommend getting your dog the suite, as it comes with a nice pillow top and glass front door. I love walking my dog around the complex and seeing all the dogs have a blast in the outdoor play area, which is quite big. I only wish their hours of operation on Sunday was a little bit longer, as flight delays occur regularly. read more

Beware! I have been an advocate of Mckees for 5 years spending hundreds of dollars in daycare, grooming, retail products and food. However, 3 strikes your out! Staff is a bunch of sweet kids managed by a gatekeeper Kim. Lack of veterinary care, inexperienced pet sitters and only interested in packing in the numbers. All of these events either were overnight visits or day visits: First strike, my dogs omega oils were massaged on his ears instead of placed on food. Once I discovered what happen because they didn't inform me, it was laughed off as a silly mistake by young staff member said Kim. Second strike, picked up my dog after a week long stay. 48 hours after being home stopped eating and acting strangely. Took him to vet and was diagnosed with severe UTI infection which then progressed to acute kidney failure. When I called Mckees to see if they observed any thing different about my dog that week of his stay. I was told they noticed he was drinking excessive amounts of water. I was not told this when I picked him up. Luckily he survived after $3500 in vet and animal hospital bills. Third strike, dropped my dog off for a bath only. They were backed up and asked if he could play in the meantime. He was not there more than 30 minutes and attacked by another dog. Kim called to tell me but didn't think it was anything other than puppy wrestling, my dog is 5 years old. After my previous experiences, I decided to come pick him up and see. He had a puncture hole in his neck. I took him to the vet and they confirmed he was bite by finding a second smaller puncture adjacent to larger one. He has two staples in his neck, antibiotics and another vet bill. I called Kim and she insisted he was not bite. No regard for my dogs safety. I was calling so she could notify other pet owner and take precaution. Instead my dog was labeled as hyper and made other dogs riled up. No apologies, no assistance with vet bill. Don't let the sweetness fool you! Beware! Business before best interest of family pet here. This relationship is over and the one who loses is the pet! read more

BTW whenever you board your dog anywhere make sure your dogs Bordetella vaccination is up-to-date that's kennel cough for dogs. This vaccination should be done every six months. I can not recommend this place and their wonderful staff enough!! We have boarded our puppies here several times, and had wonderful service each time! One of our dogs has lots of allergies and on medications for them. The staff is kind, makes sure she is comfortable, and gives us updates on how she is doing. My dog has been going to McKee's once a week for daycare for the last year and a half. He absolutely loves it there. As an only dog, I think it's a great way for him to regularly socialize with other dogs. There are separate areas for small dogs and big dogs. My dog is a corgi and loves to play with the big dogs in the large yard. We also use their boarding and grooming services. They've always taken great care of him! I especially like that I can request he is groomed before I pick him up from boarding and that they offer half-day day care + grooming so he doesn't sit around in a kennel waiting to be groomed like at a regular groomers. He gets to play all morning until they are ready to groom him in the afternoon. When we pull into McKee's parking lot, you can see how excited he is and he basically drags the staff towards the play room when I drop him off! read more

Very, verrrryyy conflicted on how many stars to dole out here. We have used McKee's for grooming and boarding. This is our "backup" boarding place when the vet is full. McKee's is expensive for boarding. Prices start at $28 for the "bare bones" accommodations. If you want to give your dog thirty minutes of play time, it's an additional $10 per day. This annoys me, because our vet's office charges less per night, AND includes complimentary play time multiple times a day. McKee's price structure really adds up in a hurry. The staff seems generally caring, and the facility always appears to be very clean from what I have observed. They do have an awesome play yard, complete with a shallow swimming pool, which my dog has no interest in. Go figure! My most recent experience with the grooming department is what gives me pause. I have been using Deanne for grooming for two years now, and I have always had a wonderful experience. She does a wonderful job shaving down my chow/border collie mix, and her rates are very reasonable. She knows exactly how I like my pup clipped, and I am always impressed with how good she looks when I pick her up. My most recent experience was very different. I want to preface this story with the fact that my dog has got to be one of the easiest animals imaginable to groom. She is elderly, and just sits there and doesn't move throughout the process. On our last boarding visit, Deanne wasn't working. A well-meaning employee convinced me to give "Missy" a try. I agreed to give her a go. Fast forward to pick up...Missy brings my dog out to the lobby, and informs me that there was an "accident". She proceeded to show me a three inch gaping gash sliced in the middle of my dog's chest. She stated that my dog must be "thin skinned", and said that she had tried to close the cut with "skin glue". I am not a veterinarian, but one look and it was completely obvious that the "cut" needed stitches or worse. I was shocked and taken aback I was that I did not receive a phone call to inform me of the "accident"; Missy did not report the incident to management, and to make matters worse, I had already paid my bill and left a tip by the time I was informed of what had happened. Off to the vet we went...and we left with four staples in my poor baby dog's chest. Upon further inspection, I was horrified to discover that Missy had (inadvertently?) removed several large skin tags I had been monitoring on my dog's head and torso. You know that had to hurt. Nobody called me to follow up on this incident. I had to phone McKee's myself the next day and leave a message for the manager, Stephanie, to receive a follow up call. Once the manager actually called me back, she was extremely apologetic, embarrassed, and accommodating. She did end up refunding the grooming, returning my tip, and ultimately, she offered to pay for our vet bill. Though I should not have been the one to initiate our correspondence, Stephanie took all the right steps once we talked in order to make amends for this incident. Based on the manager's willingness to salvage our relationship, and my five-star-worthy, past positive experiences with Deanne, I feel like it's fair to give McKee's 3 stars. I will continue to use Deanne for grooming- I mean, none of this was her fault. In conclusion, the entire reason I felt compelled to post this review is to issue a warning about entrusting your pet to Missy. As I stated before, my dog is very easy to work with, and I'm just trying to imagine what could have happened had she been a less cooperative participant. read more

With sadness, I can't recommend McKee's. If asked a few months ago what I thought, they would have gotten great reviews, but a lot has happened in that time frame. I will preface this, with saying, my problem is not the people who play and watch our dog Kaiser, out back in the play area. They have always been wonderful and seem to really love Kaiser. They were part of his growing up as we were at home. We will sincerely miss them not playing with him. My problem is with management and how they are handling aggressive dogs at the facility. Our puppy had been going to them since he was 4 months old and always seemed to love it. Then of course he got older and Kim the manager started telling me he was being disruptive. Kaiser is a German Shepherd who is now 15months old. I thought, Oh NO!, I need to see what I can do to fix this. So I decided to start spending some time sitting out in the parking lot after I dropped him off, to see what exactly I needed to work on to stop the behavior. I noticed something completely different. I noticed a Rottweiler that was continually chasing Kaiser. Kaiser would run and never turn to defend himself. When the Rottweiler wasn't there, Kaiser seemed to be fine. Never saw anything that was disruptive by him that is out of the ordinary than being a puppy.(jumping on people, pulling the leash). I was told by others at the facility that this particular dog is aggressive and that it had bitten people and other dogs already. I went in and talked with Kim the manager to tell her what I saw and to see what could be done about this Rottweiler. She said that this Rottweiler is just learning to play and doesn't understand what he is doing is wrong. She then pulls Tierney over and asks her about any incidents. Ternary says Yes, Samson is a bully and constantly harasses Kaiser and Kaiser will always try to get away from him, but Samson will continually follow him and be aggressive towards him. Kim then says that they have talked with the owners of the Rottweiler on different occasions and they are trying to work with him. I asked why is the dog still here if he is aggressive to people and other dogs. She really didn't have answer. We tried for awhile to do opposite days as the Rottweiler, but my job requires me to do different things on different days and I need to be able to drop him somewhere safe. We looked for another daycare for him and have found a really kind and gentle place. We were still sending Kaiser on Saturday's to McKee's, but after reading the latest review by Annette F, I just can't trust the management to make sure that all of the dogs are safe, not just my dog. So I am sorry to say that unless management gets the aggressive dogs out of there so that all are safe, I can not recommend McKee's. read more

Just received the most horrifying call from this location after dropping off my 8month puppy. Apparently the area where the dogs are allowed to run around is near a pool and my poor baby clipped his nail and was heavily bleeding. My dog being my baby I had many questions and the manager Kim was so disappointingly rude and unwilling to understand my concern. This was his first day there and now I'm not with him now and concerned about his safety. People please be cautious of this location as they don't seem to care that my dog feels pain also and any issue won't just be sweep under the rug. read more

Took my Boston Terrier Ace there for boarding on the recommendation of a friend. Due to a pet sitter canceling on me at the last minute, I had to go on a recommendation alone. I showed up at 12:30 PM on 7-19-18. I wasn't going to, but I decided to go back to see where he was being kept. When we walked in to where the dogs were being boarded the heat was oppressive. I kept saying to the lady how hot it was and that I was concerned. She mentioned that the portable AC units weren't running but once they were back on and as it got later in the day, it would cool off. Now it should be mentioned that Dallas was going to have some of the hottest days this year with temperatures between 105-110 degrees. At 10 PM it was still 95 degrees. I was truly concerned for my dog as he can't handle being in that kind of heat for too long. I had to go back to work but once I got off work I went back to get him to move him to another boarding facility with proper air conditioning. When I picked him up he was panting very hard and his eyes were bloodshot. Had he stayed there for 5 days, I fear he would have died of heat exhaustion. I will be fair and say I saw a lot of happy customers, and I think the day care was in the area that had proper air conditioning and it was pretty cool. Otherwise, if you have a dog that can't handle heat, do not board your dog here in the summer months. If your dog is good in the heat, go for it. It was a clean and nice large facility. read more

When we took our Golden retriever, Logan, he loved the people and was so excited to go each time. He had history with McKees prior to adopting him, so leaving him there always eased our minds when we had to go away. Upon picking him up he was always reluctant to even leave. the people knew him and loved him. that changed the last time we took him. he came home covered in bloody scratches and cuts on his ears, neck and face. Clearly he was attacked and they never let us know during play care. We figured, despite this, that we would give them another try, his experience was always so positive. We scheduled a suite two months prior to our vacation, this past December. Upon calling to confirm they lost our reservation. the people didnt care, they saw the mistake, but never attempted to fix it and gave attitude when we tried to push for the suite. We also have a 12 lb puppy mini Boarder collie/German Sheppard mix. we wanted to pay for play care again, but were told the puppy, who is a total of 12lbs would be placed with the big dogs and not the small dogs because he was a "bigger breed" dog. We thought this is was absurd, especially given the obvious lack of attention given during play care Logan experienced last time. We ended up calling other places as well as multiple pet sitters and all of them said this was terrible to put a 12lb dog with the adult large dogs. Needless to say, McKees has lost my respect and business. something has changed there, the people are rude and the well being of my dog is no no longer important. read more

I just picked up my dogs from a week of boarding. I called several times to check on them and every time they said, "they are doing great, having lots of fun!" I picked them up and my little white dog was covered from head to toe in poop. The woman at the front said, "oh goodness, looks like someone had a bad night." Our little dog never poops in our house or rolls in it. Also, both of my dogs lost weight during their week long stay. I had left a labeled bag of chewy toys for them to entertain themselves. It was unopened, so they never got to play with them. They were very busy over the 4th of July weekend, but should still have enough people on staff to properly take care of all the animals they accept. It is also pricey, which I would've been ok with had my dogs been well taken care of. read more

Although the staff seems very nice along with the facilities - McKee's has failed to keep our pets healthy, we cannot and will not return. We've taken our animals here on quite a few occasions over the past 3 years. No issues in the beginning or for the short stays at McKee's. However the past 2 times we've left our dog for more than a weekend there have been issues - she has a nasty kennel cough now (currently on 3 medications) and previously had a bad paw infection. Most recently, we went on a long vacation and our dog was at the McKee's for over 2 weeks. We picked our dog up and everything seemed fine. Once we were home we realized she had a bit of a cough. We called McKee's to see if they had noticed - they said YES they had written notes that she developed a cough FIVE days prior, which they failed to mention when we picked her up. She is now on three different medications as her cough has grown worse. This is absolutely infuriating, knowing she was sick for 5 days before receiving any medication. The first time there was an issues, which occurred a while back (I think last summer), our dog came home with paw issues. Initially we though it was just allergies, she gets bad allergies in her paws during the summer time. After a few days we realized this didn't seem like allergies, her paws were crusty and bleeding. We took her to the vet and it turned out she had a nasty infection in her paws. Our poor pup could barely walk around. The next two weeks were spent soaking her paws in medicine. read more

Wonderful place! I have a pup with horrible skin, multiple allergies and high anxiety that has stayed multiple times without any concerns. The last boarding he had developed a rash. I called to inquire about any changes that may have been made. The manager promptly returned my call and spent quite a while on the phone with me trying to rule out any possible causes and reviewing all the notes made during his stay. It was very apparent how organized this facility is ran as a business and the true concern that she demonstrated was very impressive. We have been using McKee's Pet Place for about 3 years--our dog, Ruger, LOVES this place and all we need to say is "day-care" before we get in the car and he goes bonkers! We have never had any incidents here and always know that Ruger is well-taken-care of and well-loved by Kim (the manager) as well as the other staff. It's such a comfort as a pet-owner to know that our dog is getting attentive care and being loved on whether he's being boarded or is just playing for the day. read more

We've used McKee's since they opened and have been satisfied with the exception of the last two times we boarded our dog. Now, we will not use them unless we are desperate. The last time we boarded our dog, she contracted kennel cough and ended up spending a ton on vet bills and medicine. The previous time she was there, she caught an ear infection which also cost a bunch. Both illnesses made our dog seem like she was uncomfortable and in pain. When she had the ear infection, we called McKee's and the response we got was that it is common for dogs, which left me feeling like they did not really care about improving their facility. We didn't mind paying McKee's higher prices because we liked their amenities. However, if they cannot keep their facilities clean and prevent dogs from getting sick while there, they will never get my business again. It is a shame because our dog loved going there. Good thing we found another place where she has never gotten sick. They don't have the bells and whistles, but at least this other place doesn't make our dog sick for weeks afterwards. read more

Horrible place! I brought my retriever there for daycare and they ran her playing ball on cement till her paw pads wore off and were completely gone and bloody. She screamed with every step. I brought her to the Vet and they bandaged all 4 legs and gave her antibiotics and pain meds so she could walk to go to the bathroom. I called McKees and they said it was normal wear and tear and they would not pay. What dumbasses! It takes 5 seconds to look at her paw pads to know they should stop playing for a new dog. My neighbor told me the same thing happened to her dog. read more

I boarded my two cats in the cat suite for several nights. The upside was that the enclosure was roomy so they had enough space to stretch and jump from ledge to ledge, and it had a window. The staff was friendly. I was not impressed with the cleanliness of the cage prior to leaving them. There was still remnants of litter and hair from the previous resident. The cat tree was supposed to placed in their suite but it was extremely hairy and dirty so I asked that it be cleaned prior to it being put in their cage. It was never put in their cage and when I came several days later it was still sitting in the same spot--- dirty with hair and dirt all over it. My cats looked pretty miserable but that is probably because cats in general don't get time outside of the cage at this facility. They are social and the isolation was tough on them. My cats usully board at Cat Connection which always gets my 5 star rating but they were full, so I had to settle. If in a pinch again, I would feel comfortable leaving them at McKees for a night or two but no more than that. read more

My dog was a regular visitor to doggie day care. He was SERIOUSLY injured and McKee's was clueless. I noticed he was bleeding when I picked him up. He required 2 sets of staples and subsequent stitches to repair the gash in his stomach. More than a thousand dollars in vet bills.
