We have only been in Nyhavn, Copenhagen for several days, but when you hit a gem, you might as well go back to try more things on their menu. Oops, but when you have one of the best meals, why not have it again? Our waiter, Ben, took care of us 3 nights ago. Steve and I both had a glass of wine (different) and we ordered their salmon. OMG, it was amazing. The weather was a balmy 54º but no worries: they have individual heat lamps right above your table, so you can control your set (or was that the Twilight Zone?), which was lovely and I stayed cozy warm. Anyway, tonight, our last night here, we returned. Ben was our waiter again and not only did he remember us, he remembered what we drank and ate. Seriously! This place is very big and very busy. I can understand if we were the only customers for days, but we definitely were not. Very impressive. We had the oven baked wild salmon again with the perfectly seasoned and cooked potatoes and their vegetables that had an unbelievable tomato sauce + yummy hollandaise. It did not disappoint. I've had a lot of meals in many spectacular restaurants, but this meal definitely has to be in the top 10. The only negative for me, but I know we are in Europe, is that the smokers smoke, is annoying and disgusting to smell. Ben: kudos all around. Do you Smorrebrod? Do you like it with salmon, herring, pork or chicken? With fries or plain? Two things on my bucket list planning my Copenhagen trip was to visit Nyhvn and to try Smorrebrod. "Smørrebrød, smørbrød "butter bread", or smörgås "butter goose", is a traditional open-faced sandwich in the cuisines of Denmark, Norway and Sweden that usually consists of a piece of buttered rugbrød topped with commercial or homemade cold cuts, pieces of meat or fish, cheese or spreads, and garnishes" After my Guru walk tour around the City Center, I decided I would lunch in Nyhvn and dine on? You guessed it Smorrebrod. This cozy bistro near the waterfront provided their patrons a slice of warm Danish heaven: open fire and pashmina scarf to keep warm as you dine. I ordered the fried chicken, avocado and greens Smorrebrod with fries. To wash it down, of course, a glass of Carlsberg beer. The chicken and avocado were delicious, the fries were plentiful and served with my favorite condiment, mayonnaise. The beer was out of this world; I savored every sip! The atmosphere is chill and to view the scenic waterfront as I dined was absolutely wonderful. The service was courteous and professional. This place sucks. The gal from Argentina is playing Argentinian music... at a Scottish Pub... in Denmark. Worse yet, it's a whisky bar and she admitted to not enjoying whisky or knowing anything about whisky. She didn't known the difference between a triple malt and pure rye mash bill. Here's the most offensive thing; she served my Stauning Rye whisky in a filthy glass, and she had the nerve to tell me that the glass was clean simply because "it went through the dishwasher." Yeah, I'm sure it did, but the crud and soap obviously didn't get rinsed off, so when you'd swirl the whisky in the glass a film of nastiness would develop as a result of the grime interacting with alcohol. There's potential here, but it won't be achieved with this gal as the bartender and with this crummy music. It gets a grade of F minus, minus, minus, minus. read more

Expensive place but comfortable and nice Scottish artifacts around the place. Didn't try the food but had a couple of drinks. Guinness was around €11! More expensive than the most expensive Temple bar pub in Du! read more

World Cup fever had us running into this subterranean pub in nyhavn. November is offseason but Nyhavn and it's markets are a must do. The pub was ideal and quaint. Old woods and brass taps give the warm European pub vibe your looking for. read more

A very cozy little pub with great music and a lovely atmosphere. Just popped in for a coffee because it was the only place in the area that allowed dogs, great price and very tasty coffee. Staff was very kind and even brought out a bowl of water for the pup! Very fresh and not to busy at the time. They even had outside/half outside seating with heat lamps which was great since it was rainy and cold. But the dog was even allowed inside the actual pub which was very much appreciated! read more

McJoy's is a mediocre, absurdly overpriced Scottish theme bar. From the street, it looks highly tempting. The interior is gorgeous, with dark wood paneling and cozy leather booths. In a city monopolized by Carlsberg and Tuborg, you can enjoy a properly poured Guinness. Yet, this is where the illusion ends. At 150kr ($23US+), McJoy's serves the most expensive Long Island iced tea ever made. Even in Tokyo and New York, I've never seen a basic cocktail this outrageously priced. Yes, imported liquor duties are high in Denmark, but this isn't the St. Regis. It's a tourist pub with Sade and Tracy Chapman playing on a loop. For such regal prices, service is spotty and distracted. During my recent Valentine's Day visit, uncleared glasses and crusty plates cluttered two booths. There's nothing less romantic than sitting down to a table of crumbled napkins and filthy pint glasses. C'mon, guys. Get it together. read more

probably the worst fish and chips I've ever tasted. the beer saved them a star.

How do I begin! Last night we went there for dinner and drinks. The food was good, fish and chips and great hot dogs. Who can argue with the canal view. The wait staff really had a hard time. This is a Scottish Bar and they could not describe the taste of a scotch???? Ok we let that go. We had 1 beer and 1 shot of whiskey we knew. After dinner we wanted another. Another waiter was then taking care of us. He said they were out of the Whiskey we wanted. Mind you these are 4cm pours at a busy restaurant. Ok we said we would try another. He came back and said they were out of that. We thought it was very odd. The bill then came and there was a charge for 6 glasses of wine we did not drink!!! I disputed that and they took off the charge. After we left we figured we may have been cut off!! Please train your staff better and patrons check your bill. read more

So only because I'm a scotch and whiskey lover do I give this place 2 stars! Sign outside reads "large selection of Scotch, Irish and American whiskey" but it sure doesn't have this! We asked the bartender for a few whiskey choices including danish and Irish whiskey, but ended up with a blended scotch, one I enjoy also, but very short pour and pricey. Cute little pub with a friendly bartender. They interestingly had a student discount on a few types of beers, which was a nice discovery. I was in here very late and it was nearly empty, but was a great place to warm up, grab a drink, and relax before heading home for the night. read more

McJoys became our every day tradition whilst in København. It is a quaint little pub that offers a variety of lunch and dinner options. We would come here just to have a Carlsberg beer after a long day of touristy activities. We picked McJoys because it was not crammed in the centre of other restaurants along Nyhavn harbour, so it was calmer and quieter, making it easy to have conversation and unwind. We did try to order some food once but WOW...the prices. Denmark in general is insanely expensive but a Caesar salad came up to be a whopping $30 CAD!!! What!?! This leaves room for the imagination how expensive a hearty steak dinner costs. The prices are very high, so unless you are prepared to pay up I would recommend one of the restaurants you can find nestled on the small side streets near Nyhavn. It's a nice place to come if you'd like a beer and good conversation, but nothing more. Thumbs up for friendly servers! read more
