One of the coolest pubs I've ever had a pint. They actually have hand pumped non-carbonated draft ale from the cellar. Black Eagle Brewery, Westerham, England - 200 years of brewing excellence. Cheers!!! And friendly service. Wishing my neighborhood had a pub like this. read more

Copenhagen's only real ale pub. This is not a place to come for a taste of Copenhagen. On my visit I was pleased to find a couple of Cornish beers for example. The cask marque chaps have even been over to sample it and have given it their seal of approval. This is a small and narrow bar, so I would advise arriving early in the evening if you want a table. The small bar can make for a good atmosphere though. They have 6 ale pumps.but only 3were on when I visited towards the end of the night. Normally this is the kind of thing that might be worth a docked star, but that seems unfair when nowhere else in the town even serves this kind of beer. Tiny treasure box of a beer bar. Not too much space in here, but that adds to the charming, cozy feel of the place. Easy enough to find seats for two people, but expect to get creative on seating if you're a larger group. Fabulous selection of brews. They've got Greene King cask ales of which I quite like the Old Crafty Hen (malty ale, slightly sweet, my kind of beer), Porterhouse, and a couple of ciders. Found an unusually good, strong cider in Westons Old Rosie - none of that watery sweetness common to ciders, but cloudy, peppery, and strong. Prices are around 50kr per, which I think is very reasonable for a full pint of quality beer. No food served in the bar as far as I can tell. And if you need something to read while waiting for your friends to show, they actually have copies of Beer Advocate and satirical gossip mag Private Eye (very British). I think this will be a new favourite of mine. read more

When someone said that he wanted to visit a British pub in Copenhagen, my thought immediately went to Charlie's Bar on Pilestræde, especially when it's late at night and we all had too much drink. Not saying anything but I have heard that Charlie's Bar is notoriously small place, so even if it was crowded, I guess we weren't going to be THAT disappointed knowing that we probably had had enough beer anyway. Surprisingly the place was quite empty on a midnight - perhaps the fact that it was a Thursday night instead of a weekend night plays a little role - but we didn't have problem ordering and got a seat. Now this is much of an ale place and ale is something that I drink, but not a huge fan of (my love goes to the darkest selection of all beers, gimme good quality porter or stout and I'll die happily), so I ordered something from the friendly bartender that I found it drinkable. Ambience-wise, this probably is a nice place to hang out, down a couple of beer with good friends and walk home in not so quite straight line - if you know what I mean. It's a cozy place (almost feel wrong to say hyggelig for a British pub) and I would probably go back. Not for the beer, though, but for the ambience. read more

Oh yeah! Real beer paradise. If you don't know the brands, ask at the bar for flavours you prefer on your beer and the'll guide you to the right choice. Friendly staff, friendly costumers, nice atmosphere. The bar is quite narrow, so you may have to squeeze with others... and make new friends. Tip: if you want to have a seat at a table, be there early! read more

In terms of British pubs in Copenhagen (as I wrote previously); First, a place that is just like a British-themed American bar, that is Swedish owned and in Copenhagen - Bishops Arms. Second, a Costa Del Sol English theme pub, which is Skt Nikoli (a little harsh, it is an OK place). Third, the slice of England in Copenhagen, which is Charlies Bar. However, it is not dominated by the English, but by people who know their beer. Cask ale here actually tastes good, like it should (I write this to Americans, where craft ale in cask often tastes worse from lack of familiarity with caring for cask ale). Limited food, but for there for the beer. read more

Whenever I visit my friends in Copenhagen this joint is a must for an afternoon pint. The atmosphere is lively and the staff is friendly.

If you're shopped-out in Centrum and want to rest your feet, Charlie's Bar is a good bet; IF there is room. This closet of a bar is very cozy and offers nice beers as well as great ciders. I'm not talking Somersby. The place is decorated with a lot of coasters and beer signs but it feels more warm than kitschy. And no smoking allowed, thank goodness. It's hard to find a seat sometimes, but they don't serve food so patrons will get the munchies and have to leave eventually. read more

An absolutely great bar. Superb range of beers from across Europe. The place manages to be 'English' without any of the naffness that such a description might suggest. There's usually a good mixture of Danes and Brits in there. The staff are always helpful and knowledgeable about the different brews. Copies of The Times Literary Supplement and Private Eye are usually available if you want a quiet read. And - unlike so many other smaller bars in Copenhagen, (aptly described as the cancer capital of western Europe), it's smoke-free (although you can be unlucky in the summer when the front is opened up and the smokers congregate.) read more

Very small place with no music. The place was packed on a Friday night and felt suffocating with all the smoke and talking noise. The beer variety was alright something new for KBH but not worth it for the price nor the place. I had to take my glass and drink it outside in the cold. Avoid it. read more

Just went there on Friday and overall I liked it. It is a bit cramped, but I didn't mind. It can also get a little steamy in there, but that's to be expected from a small bar. The clientele was diverse, as was the beer selection. The IPA on tap (Green Hill, I think) was lovely...hoppy but light.
