Given that neither of us had ever had a cavity prior to this dentist, she thought that was fishy and went to get a second opinion, and lo and behold, she didn't have anything resembling a cavity. I don't have proof for me personally, but I suspect they did an unnecessary filling for me and definitely were about to do the same for her. Apparently this sort of unnecessary work recommended by dishonest dentists does happen. Avoid this dentist if at all possible, but if you do choose to go here and get a recommendation for a filling or more invasive procedure, get a second opinion before proceeding.

I have a very high pain threshold and I almost passed out (but that might've been from the scariness of the drill-like sound). Very traumatic. They also said I had several cavities and scheduled a filling for the next month. I ended up waiting and going to my childhood dentist who has always been amazing and he said I didn't have any cavities, so I'm not sure what happened with this place. The reason for two stars instead of just one is because they were very helpful in getting the exact amount my fillings would cost from my insurance company. The person at the front desk (I think her name was Niki) was very helpful when I was filling out my forms and explained to me what was covered through my UofM grad student insurance, along with other logistics related things. I'm usually not good with paperwork, so her help was very much appreciated! After the initial examination, I learned that I had a filling that came loose and some minor gingivitis (which was expected since my teeth have been bothering me for a while now), and Dr. Ma explained her treatment plan for me in a way that I could actually understand. I should mention that I usually get very anxious when it comes to dentists, but Dr. Ma's gentle approach helped alleviate some of that anxiety. Oh yeah, and the hygienist was super thorough. Like, it felt like she got to parts of my mouth that I didn't even know existed. Quick Edit: my boyfriend recently went to Choice Dental after I pestered him about his dental health situation. Little researcher that she is, she found Dr. Choi at Choice Dental, which is on South Main just across from the stadium in that office building with the parking underneath. Not only is the office pleasant and the staff very friendly and competant, but the service is just outstanding. Everytime I'd turn around, he'd have something new and techy, from the tiny camera he used to take pics of my teeth so I could see what was going on to the program he used to show my how my teeth were going to move. Better yet, when I went for my cleaning, the DENTIST did the whole cleaning. Not a 2 minute consult. The WHOLE cleaning. Long story short, this dentist will make you feel like you're back in time, with a dentist who's good at what he does and actually gives a damn about you. Old school.
