I only leave this review because of the waste of time that was spent trying to figure this out for a simple whitening and the rudeness of the woman who handles the phone. If she didn't hang up on me, I would have simply rescheduled. Yes. She hung up on me. Stay away from whatever is going on at this location.

After seeing her twice for fillings, I decided to switch to Dr. Filipova, because I like her gentle and thorough approach. She is very encouraging and easy to talk to, and would be a great match for someone who has anxiety about going to the dentist. Some of my fillings ended up needing refining (with an extra appointment) and they were able to get me in quickly. Staff on the phone and in person have also been very helpful, especially Ian. They will give you an itemized receipt for FSA / yearly health care cost documentation if you ask. Their office is also really nicely decorated and maintained. Details on filling type: they have done composite (aka acrylic and glass powder that is UV light cured), and not metal/mercury/amalgam fillings, These look natural, and last from 7 to 10 years -or more. I'm not sure if they offer other/ pricier types of fillings like gold or porcelain. As for insurance, they do take at least some levels of Delta Dental. I have not had any issues with billing so far with that insurance and this clinic. Tip: A few of the dentists with the most experience and seniority (such as Dr. Farah) are in the Delta dental "Premier" group of dentists. This means their fees (even with insurance) and the out of pocket/after insurance cost to you will be higher (versus someone who is not a Delta Dental "Premier" dentist).

But I have to say, the COVID precautions at Oak Valley Dental are top-notch. They make sure you're not mingling with other patients as you move through the waiting area to your exam room. Each exam room has an air filter scrubbing the air. My hygienist and dentist are both vaccinated (as am I) and were double-masked. And they streamline the bill paying so you're not waiting at the front desk for payment to process. I was impressed both with how they adapted to the pandemic and to see that the first-rate skill and service I've come to expect from them had not suffered. And I can now relax back into my pre-pandemic 6-month schedule. Whoo-hoo!!

The person at the front desk (I think her name was Niki) was very helpful when I was filling out my forms and explained to me what was covered through my UofM grad student insurance, along with other logistics related things. I'm usually not good with paperwork, so her help was very much appreciated! After the initial examination, I learned that I had a filling that came loose and some minor gingivitis (which was expected since my teeth have been bothering me for a while now), and Dr. Ma explained her treatment plan for me in a way that I could actually understand. I should mention that I usually get very anxious when it comes to dentists, but Dr. Ma's gentle approach helped alleviate some of that anxiety. Oh yeah, and the hygienist was super thorough. Like, it felt like she got to parts of my mouth that I didn't even know existed. Quick Edit: my boyfriend recently went to Choice Dental after I pestered him about his dental health situation. He's just as weary of dentists as I am, so I was really relieved when he told me that he had a good experience with Dr. Kim. And everytime you'd go, different dentist. Nice. So, when I changed jobs, my wife and I looked for a new dentist. Little researcher that she is, she found Dr. Choi at Choice Dental, which is on South Main just across from the stadium in that office building with the parking underneath. Not only is the office pleasant and the staff very friendly and competant, but the service is just outstanding. Everytime I'd turn around, he'd have something new and techy, from the tiny camera he used to take pics of my teeth so I could see what was going on to the program he used to show my how my teeth were going to move. Better yet, when I went for my cleaning, the DENTIST did the whole cleaning. Not a 2 minute consult. The WHOLE cleaning. Long story short, this dentist will make you feel like you're back in time, with a dentist who's good at what he does and actually gives a damn about you. Old school. My post op instructions has a phone number no longer in use. Everyone is nice but the level of disorganization feels like it can and will affect your health. The day of my dental procedure I called and asked if I was suppose to be taking an antibiotic the front desk told me that was not necessary. When I got to my appointment I asked again and the dental assistant and doctor were both pretty shocked that I was told I didn't need an antibiotic. From my experience the quality of your care here will be dependent on how proactive you are for advocating for yourself.
