Dr. Kim and Dr. Shin at Tree Town provide some of the best pediatric dental care in the state. One of our sons has had a long-standing condition that other general practice dentists and our primary care physicians did not seem too concerned about. However, Dr. Shin immediately recommended a qualified specialist and my son has been able to finally receive treatment. On a different occasion, I was told by several other dentists that my child did not require braces. I was therefore surprised when Dr. Kim recommended that we consider that kind of treatment for our child. When she noticed our surprised expressions, she carefully guided our family through the various reasons why braces would be beneficial for him. She was even willing to help pay out of pocket for us to get treatment at another ortho practice when she realized that finances were a concern for us. In my experience with the dentists at Tree Town over the last couple of years I have received up-to-date professional advice for the oral care of my children. The dentists strive for excellent care that takes into consideration the long-term health of our family and not just immediate temporary bandaids. Sometimes the advice is not what we may want to hear, but I have to remind myself that I would rather have professionals that know their craft and always strive for the best long-term care than others who only want to make me happy so that I can give them a good review. I have heard only positive feedback from others that I have referred to Tree Town. Families are so satisfied with their care that they continue to drive more than 1.5hrs for pediatric dental care at Tree Town. We went to this office for my son's first appointment at 20 months. The hygienist asked me how he's doing with brushing his teeth. I answered honestly, as it's a bit of a struggle to brush a toddler's teeth - he will brush a bit, chew on the toothbrush for a while until the toothpaste (with fluoride) is all gone. He does not let me brush for him. I was then told I had to force him to let me brush his teeth, and the dentist would talk to me more about it. Then, the dentist came in. She explained how we would secure his arms to pin him down so that she could do an exam and brush. It was barbaric and traumatic for both myself and my child who screamed the entire time - I have never seen him scream and cry like this before. She threatened that I must brush his teeth like this at home - with my husband or I holding him down while the other brushes - and if we do not comply, he will end up with a mouth full of cavities and may need teeth pulled. "There is no other option," she said, "this is what you must do." I will not be taking my child back to this office. read more

Use caution. Last year our dentist recommended that we take our child to a pediatric dentist for ONE cavity on the back molar because of how crowded the teeth were in that area. Our dentist said we would likely need one filling and *worse case scenario*, a crown on that one molar depending on how it looked upon examination during treatment. We went to Tree Town for a consultation and x-rays & they told us our child would need a MINIMUM of EIGHT SILVER CROWNS on all molars, with additional fillings on the other front teeth, including two loose ones that were barely hanging on by a thread, "because the teeth were severely decayed". WHAT? We were shocked. Our dentist had never mentioned any of this to us before. We went to Ann Arbor Pediatric Dentistry for a second opinion, and they confirmed to us what our dentist had originally said. Our child ended up needing only one crown for the molar in question and has had two cleanings since with no cavities and a healthy smile! Tree Town tried to scam us with no regard to the impact that unnecessary treatment would've had on our child. Absolutely insane. read more

Like the other reviews have said, be cautious. We've been going there for at least 5 years. When the practice changed dentists, its been different. This was the first time my 7 year old was told she had two cavities. Never before with the previous dentist there. She said the one was small and didn't have to do anything right now. The other in question, she said she wanted to do. Because my daughter is young and we don't really want her to go thru that at this time, we got a second opinion. Guess what????? Just like other reviews, she DOESN'T NEED TO GET IT DONE!!!!! I was told the one in question was really small and didn't need to be filled. I was told it could wait 6 months and to take another xray. Was even told it could be fine until she loses her tooth. Was told unless it gets bigger, to not worry about it. Saved us $135 !!!! at least for now. With that being said from the second opinion dentist, we now have cancelled our appointments and going to the new dentist. It's all about the money for dentists and doctors. Plus, the new dentist is charging less for flouride!! It cost us $132 here for flouride for 3 kids. New dentist, doing the same procedure, $75. ALWAYS get a second opinion!!!!!!!! read more

She was crying hard every time we go to see a dentist. But Dr. kim treated her so nicely and gently. It was first time she was not crying. Super awesome dentist! I've been holding off on writing this review, hoping I'd calm down a bit, but since that's not happening, I'll go ahead now. We had a TERRIBLE experience here a little over a year ago. We are new to the area, read the glowing reviews for this practice and felt like it would be a good fit. Kids had cleanings that were uneventful, though not as warm and fuzzy as you'd expect from a pediatric dentist office. We were told my son had 3 cavities that needed to be filled. When we arrived for the appointment, I told them I wanted to split the work into two visits, because the cavities were on both sides of his mouth, and I didn't want him numb on both sides, that it was too much. Once the dentist reviewed my son's records, the 3 cavities changed to 4 cavities. I asked to see the xrays. She pulled them up and pointed to a few different areas, that didn't look any different from the rest of the teeth. One of my son's teeth had a broken filling and the area was a bit sensitive, and I was concerned about her messing with it so close to Spring Break when we'd be out of town, as I was worried he might need a root canal if she went too deep and irritated the nerve. She then told me that the other tooth was the one I should worry about. (All of this is being discussed in front of my son.) She put some numbing jelly in his mouth and gave him at minimum 4-5 shots, on BOTH sides of his mouth. Despite me just telling her NOT to do that. Right after giving the shots, this sadist sprayed cold water on the sensitive tooth/area. I saw my son's whole body tense up, and he immediately started sobbing, he was in so much pain. He nearly vomited. Neither the dentist nor the assistant tried to calm him down, or reassure him in any way. These "professionals" then told my son he couldn't have laughing gas because he cried. Which he wouldn't have done if she hadn't shot cold water on a tooth that hadn't been properly numbed. The dentist then told me that he needs sedation. I told her to get away from my son, and we left. Fast forward to this week -- I was finally able to get my son to go to the dentist again. Had a wonderful experience, and got some interesting news after xrays were done. NO CAVITIES. And the tooth that had a broken filling? It's a baby tooth that will be coming out on its own soon, so there is no reason to fill it. Steer clear of TreeTown - they have questionable business practices and ethics. The dentist we saw has no business seeing children of any age. I am shocked that she chose pediatric dentistry, as she has zero patience or empathy. Do not trust your child with these "professionals." read more

AVOID THIS PLACE!! We had a horrible experience here about a year and a half ago and I resisted writing a review however they just recently dropped off flyers and gift bags at our daycare center and now they forced my hand to write this review--I don't want anyone to be exposed to the terrible care that is offered here. Just to be clear, from what I've heard, this place used to be great however the head dentist moved on and went, I think, to the dental school? Now there's a bunch of misfits running this place. To make a long story short: They told me my five-year-old needed two cavities filled. One cavity they filled and they did an absolutely horrible job--during the procedure they scared the life out of my poor five-year-old while they were doing it, then tried laughing gas which didn't even work, the dentist barked at me and said that I shouldn't talk with my son to comfort him and told me to stand back and then they started yelling at him to stay still - it was a horrifying experience. After "filling" the one cavity they said they couldn't do the other one and I would have to come back another time at full charge and we should consider sedation. I said never again and I went to another dentist across town (I'm not posting their name for risk of bias but they are on the east side of Ann Arbor and I'm sure you can find them on yelp (highly rated))-- there they said the second cavity didn't even have to be filled and he's been fine for the last two years without the second cavity being touched. (Baby tooth). Never ever go to TreeTown dental. They're the worst and they should be ashamed of themselves. read more

Excellent dental care for kids! The whole staff is amazing, patient and knows how to talk to kids. The dentists are very friendly and obviously competent. The office runs well, and we never have to wait long. Although we've moved to Plymouth, we continue to come to Tree Town for our daughters' dental needs! read more

I'm writing mainly in response to some of the other reviews that relate unfortunate experiences here, because they couldn't be more different from our own. We'd been taking our son, now 11, to the dentist who previously practiced there, but were considering moving on, since she notably lacked bedside manner (putting it mildly), and diagnosed FOURTEEN cavities (nine of them root canals) over two visits and proceeded to do extensive work on him that we strongly suspect, based on later second opinions, were not fully needed. In any case, our experiences with Drs. Kim and Boynton couldn't be more different, and positive. Both were exceptionally professional and had a way with children. Perhaps they are better with older children? I simply don't know. But our son, who used to dislike going to the dentist, now actually doesn't mind it at all, since they've worked so well with him. And their main hygienist is really wonderful. read more
