I chipped two teeth one a front tooth on Sunday. I called Monday morning and they were able to see me at noon on Tuesday. Dr. Tim Schafer and his assistant Tonyaa performed magic! I truly love going to Arbor Dental. I have been seeing Dr. Jaffer for years now. I've been through Invisalign and more complex dental procedures with him and have always enjoyed his willingness to sit down next to me and teach. He explains what he is doing and why and will even pull up examples on an Ipad or a monitor to ensure we are both on the same page. He is a giant with an incredibly gentle demeanor. I convinced a friend who is dentist-phobic to be seen by Dr. Jaffer and it ended up being a positive and non-judgemental experience after avoiding the dentist for many years. I feel he is exceptional at reducing anxiety and managing pain. If I have a concern, I am able to get in quickly and I appreciate that I don't have to convince anyone that I need to be seen. I never do reviews!!!!!!! But, I felt compelled to tell you about this experience with Arbor Dental. I brought my 17 y/o, extremely nervous son, into Arbor Dental today for extractions of all four wisdom teeth with IV sedation. We came to the office from Jackson, about a 30 min drive. And I am SO glad I did!!!! The staff was extra helpful in keeping us both calm, informed and reassured. Midway through the procedure, they let me know how he was and how far along they were. I just received a phone call from Dr Jaffer himself, to check on my son. Whom, by the way, is in NO discomfort what so ever, and doing just fine!!! From our first initial consult visit to after care from surgery, this office was TOP NOTCH!!! We highly recommend Dr Jaffer and Dr Tim for ANY and ALL dental needs. Inconsiderate and Rude. I was there for over an hour in a waiting room before Dr. Jaffer came in and told me they were too busy to have a hygienist see me and I would have to come back for a cleaning. What? Why didn't they tell me when I got there? Why didn't anyone call me and tell me not to come? How is this acceptable? I was trying to find a dentist that accepted my new insurance but I would rather pay out of pocket for a cleaning elsewhere than come back to an office that does not value my time. Money hungry, unorganized terrible dental office. They quote you a price, ridiculously overcharge what you are expected to pay, took 3 months to finally order the bite guard they pushed on me. I had to do three impressions because the dental hygentist didn't take the Impressions correctly. I have to call them multiple times to ask if my $600 plus bite guard was in. They sent me another patients bill attached to mine (no I'm NOT joking) itemized and all. They fixed a chip on my tooth and it chipped a few months later and they refused to fix it without me paying $350 again. Did I mention I have insurance but they maxed it out on first visit? The saga continues: In November, I went to arbor dental and they informed me that all of my prior fillings needed to be replaced. Out of blind trust, I believed them. Two root canals and $6,000 worth of dental work later, I realized that they removed fillings to make a profit, hit nerves and basically ruined my mouth for life. It's astonishing what medical professionals will do to make quick money. Lesson learned: ask for second opinions and don't go to this practice. read more

During my exam, Dr. Jaffer (Arbor Dental's dentist) said that there were a few worrisome spots on my teeth and that one needed to be filled. The receptionist went to set up an appointment for the filling. It would be $152 if I paid right then or $160 if I paid later. This payment set-up made sense from a business perspective, but it felt coercive. And because the price tag seemed high, I opted not to pay right away. That turned out to be the right decision. A few months later, I moved out of Ann Arbor and visited another dentist. I asked Arbor Dental to transfer my file, but they said that it would cost $120 to do so. As a result, the new dentist did his own exam. I alerted him to the spot that Arbor Dental wanted to fill. But, after examining the tooth, the new dentist told me that there was no cavity. This dentist could have easily charged me for a filling by rubber stamping Arbor Dental's diagnosis, but he didn't. This led me to conclude that Arbor Dental entices customers into unnecessary drilling. I later found out that Arbor Dental used laser technology to detect my "cavity." After my cleaning, the hygienist had put this laser device into my mouth. And, basically, because the device had read above a certain number for a spot on my tooth, Dr. Jaffer recommended a filling. I guess you could view this as early cavity detection or as a way of harvesting revenue from patients. Maybe it's both. Regardless, after my exam at Arbor Dental, I had no idea that other dentists would disagree his recommendation, and I wouldn't have considered a filling had I known as much. Dr. Jaffer called me in response to an earlier version of this review (which I've since edited). Over the phone, he defended the laser technology and asked me to retract this review. I told him that I would do so if he allowed my new dentist to see my X-rays in order to determine whether his diagnosis was reasonable. He wouldn't, not unless I paid his transfer fee. (I used a Living Social coupon, and apparently the transfer fee was in the fine print.) I'm still convinced that Arbor Dental uses the laser technology as a revenue producing tool. Of course, I know nothing about dentistry, so don't take my opinion for more than it's worth. read more

This is a great dental practice...I called on a Monday and they were able to get me on Wednesday morning of the same week for a checkup and cleaning. They have digital x-rays, which shows they have invested in modernizing the practice. They also have tvs in the exam rooms where they can play you short videos about the procedure you will be having, or about general dental care such as brushing and flossing. Leah, a hygenist, was great, my teeth felt really clean afterward. Dr. Miller checked me out after my cleaning. She was really nice. Certainly the friendliest and most efficient dental office visit I have had. I recived a call prior to my visit to make sure I did not have any concerns or special needs. The office staff was warm and welcoming, with a welcome sign; certainly a big change from the last office I went to!!! The paper work I needed to fill out was ready and waiting for me to complete, and the hygientist was the best I ever had, she explained every process, she was quick and thorough with a gental hand, she's a keeper, if she leaves I will follow. I went here for a few years, until a dentist there took a brief look at an x-ray and told me I needed a root canal. I had my doubts about the accuracy of that diagnosis, so I saw two other dentists at different practices to get other opinions. They both said my tooth was fine, and that I had an infection in my gums, not the tooth. I did not go back to Arbor Dental. I got treatment for the gum infection from a new dentist and years later, my tooth is still fine. If I had listened to the dentist at Arbor Dental, I would have had an unnecessary root canal and had to pay for a new crown. read more

The visit was extremely painful. Although I winced and scowled throughout the procedure, the dental hygienist continued on in a not so gentle manner as if she was on the expressway to the next customer. For instance, when she flossed my teeth, she did not try to move the floss back and forth in order to gently insert in between my gums, but instead jammed the floss down to make instant contact with my already sore gums. I spent my visit enjoying the taste of my blood, as she kept scraping instead of taking breaks to rinse and sunction out the liquid. My gums were sore for the week after due to the lesions near my teeth. When I stood up and took off my bib, I noticed that it was splattered with blood. Perhaps it was because it was near the end of the day or the recent Groupon deal increased demand, but neither of these reasons made up for the lack of care. Before the dental hygienest left, she told me that my teeth looked great and I had strong teeth. The main dentist then entered, glanced at my teeth for less than 15 seconds, and told me I had two, maybe three cavities. I was surprised to hear that, as I gotten my teeth cleaned 5 months prior without a problem and the dental hygienist gave me an okay without scratching at my teeth to suggest a cavity. So I asked him to point them out to me, and he fingered to a general area instead of pointing out which teeth on the xray or in my mouth. He then changed from "two, maybe three cavities" to saying, in a matter of fact manner, you have three cavities. Although I pre-paid for a teeth whitening (as part of an extremely cheap Groupon deal), I was told to come back, pay an extra $180 to take care of one of my cavities, and then they'd do the teeth whitening. I hate to admit it, but it kind of sounded like they were trying to charge me more in order to make up for providing such a good Groupon deal. Even if they were right about my cavities, I'd rather go to another more gentle dentist that is willing to specifically explain to me my dental problems. Later, I received an email from Arbor Dental to write a review on a website called "Demand Force." I wrote that the visit was extremely painful but left out my doubt regarding the cavities. I clicked submit. A few days later, I returned to the "Demand Force" website and was shocked to see that my review was not on the website. Perhaps I didn't click submit or the internet had a brain fart. But now I also question if Arbor Dental screens reviews. Perhaps. I promise, I'm a real person. I'm not receiving any incentives to write this review. .......... although it would be great! ....hint...lol, smh, jk! FYI.. I never write reviews, this is genuinely my first, brace yourselves! This is a real person/testimony! After consulting multiple Orthodontist (over a period of years), I was given the same story. I was told that I'm considered to be one of the worst cases possible (under bite, mix of baby teeth & permanent plus more). I was notified by all providers whom I sought consultation, prior to, Dr. Amin Jaffer that I must have a (non optional) surgical procedure performed on my Jaw. This would have to be performed in an outpatient hospital setting by an oral surgeon. I was informed that there would be a painful recovery process. I also received from those same providers a recommendation of required extractions, prior to, the surgery ranging from 4 -6 teeth minimum (likely more) to be removed at yet another location. The approached used be these providers was that "we'll see as we go approach," never decisive. In the end, I would have been in the hands of multiple providers at various locations to get to my end goal of braces or invisalign. No surprise to me by this point (but on top of all of that) all stated that invisalign was not an option: braces were required. I was made to feel more insecure (at times) than I felt I could handle. Some made me feel pressured, like if you don't change it now, you'll never be able to. Or even worse, you will be older and it will be much more painful and even more complex. I am grateful that put all that aside and overcame my worries and insecurities with time. I did not give up, thank goodness! There were times previously were I would say to myself, "maybe your not meant to see yourself at your best or maybe it's just not meant to be for you." Some people are meant to have nice smiles with aligned teeth and some aren't. Is it just me, or have you ever found yourself saying those things or questioning, why? Well, please do not, I was wrong (and so are you). It's life changing experience in the sense that, yes, there is a major confidence boost! It's possible and more affordable than ever, with lots of options! Please never give up instead, research, plan and stick to it! I met Dr. Amin Jaffer on one occasion, prior to, receiving invisalign (at his former office). I was in search of a cleaning/ consultation(Ortho.). I recalled years later how he used a direct and honest approach. I most appreciated, his recommendation, of no surgery required. My hesitation to move forward at the time came from his additional recommendation of multiple extractions. Despite my fears, I remembered how well informed I felt about my possible treatment plan. Equally, he was upfront about charges, no hidden cost/fees. I returned to his new office which happens to be in a very convenient location! The office staff members are welcoming and the atmosphere is professional and friendly! Dr. Jaffer is a professional, he's kind with a calming demeanor! In my experience he has tried to accommodate me (hours, mishaps, follow-up, etc.!) His new locations is very clean, inviting and has great decor! Definitely an upgrade! I feel so strongly about the service that I've received simply because it's really working! Not only did he recommend- no surgery, the extractions went so well! Yes, there were multiple (same day). He used precision and patience to remove my teeth, even though one gave a bit more resistance to part ways. Yes, there was some discomfort following the extractions but I healed over the course of a few days. Lucky for me, it was nothing that OTC pain relievers (taken at recommended dose, of course) couldn't handle. The extraction process was overall fast and not nearly a frightening as I thought it would be. Please know, discipline is required for fast healing! As far as my invisalign process goes he listened and was more inclusive! I was able to receive my preferred treatment plan, at least for the majority of the process. I am not quite finished with my invisalign treatment but I very satisfied with my overall process! I am still satisfied even despite learning recently (tray 38 of 41 total) that there is a new recommended revised plan. I will be receiving traditional braces on my lower teeth only (for a period of 3 - 6 months). It's easy to be satisfied with the revision because he has been transparent and informative, since the beginning. I can see the transition, I can equally see the need for additional measures to complete the process giving me an amazing smile, in the end! I already feel much more confident than I ever did before! Dr. Jaffer stands by his work and will be sure to see your treatment plan through to completion! You should know that you'll be in good hands! You will receive honest, affordable care from a knowledgeable provider, if you select Dr. Jaffer! I do hope that you receive the same experience! read more

Although very nice gentlemen, I must be honest that the results of the procedure I had done were not the best. I felt as if my concerns were not understood or listened to. Every time I had an appointment, it was like they had an agenda they had to stick to, and they didn't take my input seriously. I will not claim to be an expert in dentistry, but as a health professional I do the research and have a good understanding of what was going on with my mouth. I am a difficult patient. Nerves that go everywhere, difficult to numb, sensitive to medication, don't like things near my neck, can't have the chair go up to quickly, or I get faint. All round, I am a difficult patient. Dr. Jaffer and his team are the team for me. They always listen to my concerns, and they do things to make me comfortable. I know I can trust them. His staff are beyond frendly and approachable. I recently had trouble with a tooth and had pain in my mouth. They fixed one tooth, but suspected the issue was with another tooth. I can never tell where the pain is coming from. Does that happen to you too? I am luckly if I can tell if it is on the top or bottom! Well Dr. Jaffar and his team worked with me over several visits until we resolved the issue. I finally had the troublesome tooth removed and I am waiting to have a tooth implant. My first, and although I am not excited to have one, I am very happy about two things. First, no more pain! Second, that Dr. Jaffer has so much experinece in this field. Beware! This dentist office likes to charge unnecessary *fees* and tell you you have cavities that aren't covered by your insurance (when they should be 100% covered)! This morning I called to cancel my cleaning appointment because I am sick. My tonsils are literally touching each other. I made an appointment for 10 days from now (the soonest they could get me in). Just before getting off the phone I wast told "Just so you know there may be a $25 cancellation fee." I challenged this (because I am sick) to which the receptionist stated with an attitude "Well I'll state your case, but they will likely charge you anyway. Hope you feel better!" I could have chosen to go in anyway and get their staff sick, but I thought I'd keep my sore throat to myself. I rescheduled for a week later! I didn't tell them I wasn't coming in at all... Beware of this office. I find the dentist personable, but they like to charge fees unnecessarily and the rest of the staff isn't very personable. I had a root canal that needed to be done, and the first time it was done (from somewhere else) - it went all bad, so for my second root Canal I decided to go to Arbor Dental- Flew From New York to Ann Arbor for the procedure - and it was Amazing- Felt no Pain - as the Doctor did a good job Numbing my mouth, and was taken care of like a family member- Very Hygenic :-)) I was impressed with the cleanliness of the facility and with precautionary health measure (gloves, masks, etc.) Dr Jaffer Assured me that I will be taken care of and that put me at so much ease just by the word and procedure was a bonus! My daughter needed extractions for her braces and they charged me 3 times of what the oral surgeon had charged me. I learned there are certain codes specialists are allowed to charge. Do ur research. Obviously i went to an oral surgeon and couldn't be happier. Seek a specialist who went additional schooling to perfect their skills if u need braces, implants or oral surgery. It's the worse thing I've ever tried in my life, Dr Preeti who did my fillings and I had serious painfull after that I went back to her three times and telling her that I couldn't even bite normally. Some of them higher than others. Every time I go she could not make it up and she said just let's wait and see what will happen, I was waiting for weeks and it is the same feelings. I am still having painfull until now and when I did it was I think on July 2017. she is not professional. Also the front desk are so rude. one day she closed the phone on my face because I was asking her too much about the schedule that It can fit me to make an appointment. I've been a patient of Dr. Jaffer for years and have experienced excellent care by him and his team of hygienists. They go the extra mile and make my dental appts. much more comfortable. I am toward the end of an extensive Invisalign treatment and, so far, couldn't be happier with the treatment and the care I'm receiving. I also had to have a last minute root canal before a long flight and Dr. Jaffer made sure to get me taken care of in a very timely manner and made a great effort to comfort me as I was very nervous. I have no complaint with the quality of work or the expertise of the staff - they are exemplary. But... watch your checkbook. I have had several crowns put in - on back molars - where I told the staff I did NOT want ceramic, cosmetic work because my insurance would not pay for it. If I could give them a zero rating I would. This is my first experience ever in going to the dentist consistently my entire life that I walked out of the office feeling taking advantage of, having pain in my mouth and my teeth do not feel clean. I have NEVER had a cavity or worrisome exam from the dentist ever. I actually had a dentist once warn me since I would be living afar and possibly seeing other dentists that many dentists take advantage of saying you have a cavity and want to fill when it is not necessary and it's just a way for them to make money considering you pay upfront at their office for upcoming treatment. I am pregnant so I can not have any xrays. I simply went to the dentist for a teeth cleaning only. The many things this dentist (Dr. Jaffer, Arbor Dental) wanted to do from filings to fluoride treatments to retainers was going to add up to a very large amount of money. I have dental insurance so most of what this dentist wanted to do would be covered but I had a very uneasy feeling about the many money-making things he was suggesting. I've done my research and even read the other reviews on this dentist since leaving my appointment and it seems very on track with this dentist saying you need unnecessary treatments so he can charge money to make money. The dental hygienist was rude, terrible bedside manner and terrible at cleaning teeth. I have never had a teeth cleaning that actually hurt and I am still hurting from her unnecessary aggressive cleaning. I actually feel as though she might have damaged some of my teeth. I am going for a second opinion to my dentist from my home town that I have been going to for many, many years. If he sees any damage from her terrible cleaning today I will turn this dental company into the Michigan Board of Dentistry, fill a complaint with the board and possibly file a law suit. I value my teeth and have taken very good care of them, I don't appreciate how I was treated today. I completely agree with reviewer Tina H. as she describes how her teeth were flossed, I experienced the same thing. She was in such a hurry, she just jammed the floss down, she did not move the floss back and forth in order to gently insert it. I was almost an hour late getting back to the dental chair because of the front office's lack in knowing how to verify insurance. The dental hygienist told me she was frustrated with the front office too because now her whole day was behind and this would cause all her appointments for the day to be behind. Hence why she rushed through my appointment, doing a very poor job of properly cleaning and causing me much pain as she rushed and was so violently aggressive with her cleaning. I'm not sure she would have been any better if things would have been on time, I think she is just a very unskilled hygienist with poor technique. I'd like to see how she'd feel having the same treatment done in her mouth! The receptionist staff was disorganized except for one girl working and I wish I knew her name to compliment her. She seemed to be the only person in the reception crew who knew what was going on and had a professional manner. I have had this appointment scheduled for several weeks and they waited till right at my appointment time to check and verify my insurance. They had no idea what they were doing and I waited an hour before I could be seen because they hadn't verified anything prior. I was the only person in the waiting room so it wasn't as if they were behind or busy for me to wait that long. I am in the medical field so I truly understand having to wait when things get behind because appointments go over or there are unforeseen needs and emergencies. This was lack of efficiency as they should have had all the insurance needs done prior to my appointment. At one point in her unsuccessful attempt to figure out my insurance she told me her office manager would be back in about an hour and a half and why didn't I just come back then for my appointment. Did she think I had the whole day off to spend waiting on the dental appointment. Terrible, terrible, terrible customer service!!!! Who does that? Tells someone to come back hours later when they have had an appointment scheduled for quite some time. I would have understood if there was some emergency in the office and I would need to reschedule but don't ask me to come back hours later because you haven't done your job and don't know how to do it. Best dentist in Ann Arbor, or anywhere in my experience. I have been with Dr. Jaffer for the last 2 years after relocating to Ann Arbor. He is extremely gifted at dentistry, and an expert at administering anisthetic. I'm a little fearful of needles, but I felt almost nothing when he prepared me for my fillings. Like I said, extremely gifted. The office is run very well, and uses technology I have never seen in any other dentistry practice. My teeth are documented on film and also in digital picture. I get to view through photos any issues noticed when cleaning, and any recommended procedures are well explained so that I can make an educated decision. I've never had trouble getting prompt appointments, and I am always greeted by my first name when I walk in the door. Great attention to detail, and extremely skillful professionals. read more

My husband and I have been to Arbor dental a few times now and we have had a great experience every single time! This office really goes out of their way for their patients. The first time I went, I had a cavity chip and they were able to get me in within 24 hours even though I had never been to the office before. Now, I need to have my wisdom teeth removed and they have an oral surgeon come in to their office who I am sure is fantastic. However, since he is not covered under my insurance, I asked if I could go to a different oral surgeon. Not only was Arbor Dental very patient with me as I scheduled then canceled an appointment with their oral surgeon, they even bent over backwards to help me find an oral surgeon that is covered under my insurance plan. I am incredibly impressed with Arbor dental not only for their high quality dental care, but also for their willingness to go the extra mile to help their patients out!! read more

I have nothing nice to say about this place. The staff was very incompetent and unfriendly. They were very slow to get me into my appointment. They then said I had all these problems with my teeth and required $400 worth of repairs, which I found very suspect because I have very nice teeth and have never had any problems before. I declined the procedures at that time. Thus, I went to a different dental office a few weeks later and they said I had nothing wrong with my teeth. Arbor Dental was just trying to "create" problems so they could charge me more money. Then, after a few weeks Arbor Dental sent me a bill for $385 dollars, all of which was supposed to be charged to my insurance. I called and they said they would clear it up. After another month they sent me another bill, this time including a late fee. After arguing with them for an hour they finally said they would submit it to my insurance. Then, if that wasn't bad enough, they sent me a new bill for $30 for a fluoride treatment I never received. I finally just paid it because I was tired of fighting with them.
