Blatant disregard for clients when recommending services - telling patients that services are covered when they are not and then sticking you with the bill. I used to go to this practice but decided against going back when they consistently over billed for services and finally told me that my son had 27 cavities that they had seen using their "mouth camera." 27 cavities - really? The final straw was when Dr. Hall and her assistant began talking about how Dr. Hall's dog was "raped" by another dog and how now she would need to abort the puppies. That conversation was way over the top - nothing I cared to listen to while looking at my teeth. I have since found the most wonderful and honest dentist in all of Michigan - there are still good people out there who are not trying to rip off the consumer at every turn. read more

The good: it's always easy to get an appointment here (broke a tooth last week and got in the same day) and the people, all the way from the receptionists to the dentists, are very nice. The atmosphere is clean, warm, and calming. Can't complain about any work they have done on me. Not so good: Progressive is very quick to recommend expensive procedures. On my first visit there, thirteen years ago, I was told a bridge I'd gotten two years earlier was nearly worn out and I should start making plans to replace it, preferably with implants (not covered by insurance). I said I'd hold off, but they warned me not to hold off too long. Remember I mentioned this was 14 years ago? I've still got the bridge and it's just fine. More times than not I'm told I'm going to need some kind of procedure that will require a large copay--sometimes I get them, sometimes not. The pressure is almost always there. A couple of times, my hygenist has seen something she thought was ominous and all but assured me I was going to need some ghastly expensive treatment, only to have the dentist look at me later and tell me nothing needed to be done immediately. That was nice, though it suggests to me a pressure on employees to sell, sell, sell. Why have I kept going? It's close to home, and the people there are pleasant to deal with. But I'm looking into changing dentists now. read more

This office is horrible, went in for general cleaning and got talked into getting a crown for a tooth that was perfectly healthy. In the end had to get a root canal due to the dentist (Dr. Hall) terrible job. I went back to my previous Dentist in New York City who clearly stated that no worked needed to be done in the first place and that the root canal was not even up to par. My advice to everyone out there reading this, DO NOT listen to this dentist, definitely get a second opinion, and after you get a second opinion, find a dentist who actually cares about your teeth and not his own wallet. read more

Makes going to the dentist like going to the amusement park (kind of). Love this place. Everyone is nice. They always have amenities and also wifi! Karen was fabulous and took the time to explain and advise. Dr. Derry was friendly and helpful. Their equipment looks very new. They took snapshots of my cavities and put it on the screen in front of me! Place is comfortable also. 1/25/16: New review: last time I went they went through the process of making a mouth guard for me because I grind my teeth without me knowing (I was only in to fill my cavity). When I went to check out, I was told to pay around $2000, money I didn't have. I was so surprised and had to tell them I didn't want it. All the workers' mood turned at that point. They made me felt like I had wronged them but actually I was never told about the mold for the guard was being done. I feel like you should ask and confirm before you start something. If you don't have money, don't go here. I have a feeling you won't be treated too kindly once they don't get their way. read more

This dentist in one appointment gave me around seven fillings without adequately asking if I wanted to receive these fillings beforehand. I believe that I not only didn't need these fillings, but also that my mouth could not handle all of these fillings. I also believe he solely gave me these fillings so he could take the extra money I had on my insurance premium. I believe he is a misaligned dentist that only cares about making money and cannot be trusted. When I went in for my cleaning, he told me that I needed two cavities. A week later when I went in to get the two fillings I was immediately injected with an immense amount of novocaine, it was by far the numbest I have ever been. After all this novocaine made me drowsy and not able to think clearly in my head, he came and announced he was actually going to give me seven cavities, and without explicitly asking me or giving me any time to think proceded to start the operation. Afterwards, I was furious and the only explanation I recieved was that he decided that morning to reevaluate my x-rays and decide that I need what was coincidentally the perfect amount of fillings to use up my insurance premium. To make matters worse he did such a terrible job I couldn't eat solid food for months. I had to go back multiple times as he readjusted my fillings over and over again, almost weekly. However, there are so many filings that nothing can fix the damage that was done. Even to today, I can only eat out of one side from my mouth. I am no longer seeing this dentist, finally found a new one so I felt free to make this post. Like many other reviewers, I had a TERRIBLE experience here. The only two positives: the office was beautiful (seriously - the fanciest dentist office I've ever seen) and the hygienist who cleaned my teeth was nice and did a pretty good job. The negatives: the administrative staff was HORRIBLE. Before choosing to have my teeth cleaned here I called and they claimed to accept my insurance, but only AFTER I had the cleaning did they tell me that they were a "premiere" provider. This means they can charge you whatever the hell they want and your copays are more than twice as much (50% coverage for a crown, when my insurance usually pays 80%). I got my PD/bill after my cleaning and saw that for my fillings and a crown it would be close to $1000. Once I found out that they weren't PPO providers, I called to cancel my next appointment. The office manager told me she would give me the PPO insurance rates, and reduce my overall bill to something around $300. This seemed like such a significant discount on their end, that I simply asked for it in writing to ensure I wasn't charged $1000 AFTER the services were provided. Wouldn't you know...they called me back a few minutes later and told me it'd be better to have my fillings done somewhere that does take my insurance. This was especially skeevy because I think they were just going to charge me the full rate and I would have no proof of what the office manager offered over the phone! It was definitely a SCAM. I found another dentist and he told me I didn't need HALF of the services recommended by Dr. Hall. She told me I would need almost all of my silver fillings replaced, and the new dentist told me they were still perfectly in tact, and that changing them would create unnecessary trauma for my teeth. Like the other reviewers have said, Dr. Hall will recommend as much as possible - only caring about the bill and not the integrity of your teeth. DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST...EVER! read more

Beautiful office and fresh fruit is a nice touch. Pleasant staff. However, do NOT DO a dental implant here. Go to a specialist.The treatment was bordering on abuse, and Dr Hall could have scraped me off the ceiling I was in so much pain! I had a root canal and crown done by Dr. Meredith Hall in Ann Arbor, got infected, and I asked if they would reimburse me for the failed root canal..the answer was NO. Then they charged me again and pulled the same tooth, placed a dental implant and she literally broke it off my jaw bone when installing the crown abutment. Ouch! And never reimbursed me the money ($3000 and $9000 respectively) paid by insurance, and she kept the dental implant. It would have been nice to use Dr. Hall's payment to pay my new dentist. Of course I had a huge infection after the dental implant was broken by Dr Hall and swollen gums and face. Not pretty. Another dentist in Milford did a full crown set on my bottom teeth..allowing me to eat normal after 15 years of pain. My new dentist charged $8,000 and insurance paid a small part of it. My gums and teeth are very healthy now. Still no pain a year later and doing much better. Since this covered the same tooth Dr Meredith Hall literally screwed up several times, I think she should pay me back part of the money, say nothing about pain and suffering. Mr. Bart Hall the other dentist at Progessive, had suggested a bridge and crowns which I eventually had done in Milford, but Mrs. Meredith Hall got angry when I requested it and then proceeded to take her anger out on my poor dental implant. A simple x-ray could have prevented this mistake if it was not ready to be crowned. My new dentist was a huge improvement over Dr. Meredith Hall. DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST, Meredith Hall. OUCH!!! DO NOT LET her PLIERS get near your teeth. If they ever do a dental implant, I recommend having their specialist Dr HO, an endodontist, complete the abutment work to ensure safety so you will not have to be scraped off the ceiling in pain too! PS: Still waiting for my money back on this botched dental job a year ago. read more

I had a dispute with the office because during my last visit, they failed to even tell me that the dentist was not in. In the dispute that resulted, they disclosed two pages from my "RECORD OF MEDICAL TREATMENT" to the BBB. The BBB had ruled against them, so they did so in retaliation. From the BBB complaint: "the BBB has determined that the company's response does not adequately address all the issues or make a good faith effort to resolve the dispute." I have been requesting my medical records from them for months, and they still have not provided them. read more

I started going to Progressive Dental around 2007, and for four years I was a very happy client. Everyone from the front office staff, to hygienists, to the dentists were fantastic, and best of all not one error was made in billing. Unfortunately, over the past couple of years almost every person is gone and I don't know why. A couple of hygienists stayed along with Dr. Meredith Hall, and now there is a Dr. Bart Hall, but that's it. The new hygienists don't seem as experienced as the past ones, and several billing errors have been made since the turnover. One person in particular at the front desk (I can't remember her name, ugh!) was condescending and rude to me at my last visit in 2013, most likely because I pointed out the billing errors and requested they be fixed (as of today, they haven't been corrected). Because of all of this, I chose to leave and will find a new dentist. read more

Once again I am compelled to write a review for Progressive Dental. It seems like only the people that want to complain bother to come write reviews any more. I was just in the office for my cleaning again and what can I say... I Love Love Love this office. I have been a patient here for nearly 4 years now. I always find the staff friendly and helpful. If I have had a question about my bill or treatment the staff has always taken the time to explain it to me and go over my insurance statement. Karen, my hygienist, is the greatest. She always makes me laugh when I am in for my cleanings. Great Staff! Great doctors! I highly recommend Progress Dental for anyone looking for a dentist in the Ann Arbor area. This place is immaculate. Probably one of the nicest dental offices I have ever been to. The staff is friendly and the dentist was nice. BUTTTTTTT all the good ends there. In my opinion, the reason their office is so nice is because they get you to do (and pay) for things that aren't necessary. I was told I had blatant wear from grinding my teeth that required bite splints to be made and had two small cavities that needed filling (I've never had a cavity in my life). Anyway, stepdad is a dentist out of state and sent the X-rays to him and he couldn't believe they wanted to do work on my teeth. He said the spots could have easily been there my entire life and he even had a veteran hygienist in his office confirm how ridiculous it was to fill the "so-called" areas. She agreed. Lastly, I went to another local dentist 6 months later (just today) and they stated I had no signs of grinding my teeth and no cavities or even any suspicious spots. In summary. Be wary of what they recommend. But if you have the money and want to go to a really decked out dental office, by all means. I'm sure not. read more

Agree with the other reviewers that Dr. Hall provides great dental care, but that the billing process at this practice is shady. I wasn't informed that the procedures Dr. Hall was going to perform, had large co-pays and I was unexpectedly out close to $1000 after my visit. Especially concerning since the procedures were not urgent and I could have spaced them out in order to save up. Needless to say I will not be back. read more

If I've learned anything from my experience at Progressive Dental, it's not to pick your new dentist based on a flyer in your mailbox promising a $50 gas card. I never had a simple cleaning appointment - each time I went in, I was told I had lots of complicated (read: expensive) issues that needed to be dealt with immediately. The office is very clean and high-tech, and gives you the impression that they have access to any drill/specialist/tool/laboratory/etc under the sun and can offer you all the complicated and expensive care they insist you need, right away. In spite of all the technology and resources (and staff members - you will rarely see the same person twice) they are disorganized and unprofessional. They will tell you that you are in need of thousands of dollars' worth of work, that more reputable dentists will deem completely unnecessary. And to cap it all off, at the end of the year they will check your dental insurance to see how much money is left and will send you something in the mail letting you know what you could still spend on dental care before the end of the year. So if a disorganized, overly aggressive, unprofessional attitude held by a revolving-door squadron of hygienists under the oversight of dentists who are rarely present is what you want, Progressive Dental of Ann Arbor is the place for you. If not, please, please, PLEASE do not go to this dental office. If there were fewer dentists like this in operation, insurance costs would go down for everyone and there would be more respect to be had for the profession. Beware of this place. After reading these reviews, i am compelled to chime in w/ my experience. At first, it was great- beautiful office, friendly front desk person (who is not there anymore) and good hygienists. I had a needed root canal that went smoothly- minimal pain, all good. I went every 4 months, as plaque builds quickly on my teeth. Fair enough. I knew this to be true w/ other family members- its genetics. The up-selling began fairly quickly- i desperately needed an occlusal guard- i clench my teeth. I said I couldn't afford it, after finding out that insurance paid only a small portion. Do you know I was mercilessly pressured to get this 3+ times a year for the next three + years? I finally lost my temper and called them out on it- told them not to talk to me about it again- and I would let them know when and if I was ready. They acted hurt and sulky about it- then they did a second root canal and that time it was sheer insanity. On the day they kept looking at the wrong tooth- i must have told 3 people a few different times that it wasn't that tooth- even the actual dentist. Can you believe they were all looking at the previous root canal, nicely capped crown? The new one- It was too long- i told them it was and they just acted mystified at what I was saying. Then they sent in someone to sand my lower tooth down so it wouldn't bother me. Wow. Then they volunteered to put a cap on a lower tooth that didn't need it and I knew then I needed to get out. Meanwhile, they talked my husband into an occlusal guard, which he probably needed, so whatever. It resulted in a high bill which they began to harass ME about every single time. We made payments on a regular basis, but balance never seemed to go down much. We missed a month or two but always communicated- last time I was there they actually told me that they would take me to court as I was headed back to get my teeth cleaned! This was over a matter of about $600 at this time, I believe. They never once said a word to my husband about anything- one day I went in and they started in on me and I knew my husband had just made a pretty significant payment the week before. So I say, "didn't we just pay a few hundred last week?" They look and they say "that went towards HIS bill, not yours." However, the bill for both of us is joint. It's ONE bill, w/ both of us on it. So he makes payments and since I know he is, I dont. I get harassed, he gets a "have a great day!" Its so absurd we laugh about it. I never went back and have since changed dentists. But honestly, these people are major manipulators- beware beware beware! read more

I would honestly recommend people stay away from this place. The upsell of unnecessary procedures is stunning. After switching to another dentist, without being prompted, the new dentist was surprised that some of the procedures had been performed. At Progressive, the response to the question, "Do I need this procedure and why?" often starts with "Do not worry, your insurance covers it." Also, because Progressive is so monetarily driven, not only do they not explain the need for procedures and perform unnecessary procedures, but also schedule multiple procedures in one appointment (e.g., 3-4 fillings at a time), which leads to excruciatingly traumatic experiences during and after. read more

Be careful of this dental practice!!!! All That Glitters Is Not Gold! They may have beautiful offices and state of the art equipment but underneath bad customer service and very poor dentistry. I was not going to review this but after receiving numerous "miss you cards" inviting us back to the practice with a $100 gas card I just had to jump in and say something. We went to this practice from 2007 to 2013. After 6 years and about $25,000 later for family of 3 we finally decided to seek second opinion as we always left our visits with recommendations that our teeth needed work and always turned out to be the most expensive procedures.(I am sure some would say how stupid of us to stay that long but we were fooled by all the friendliness and all the glitter!!!) That is until some serious dental issues came up and we started questioning the amount of procedures, expense and necessity. There also was a major change in the office management and a new office manager starting working there. I must say I have never ever experienced such an unpleasant person in my life before. She definitely does not know anything about customer satisfaction and in my opinion acted very unprofessional on many occasions. Our insurance company was billed for procedures that we were assured would be paid in full and no cost to us only to find that we owed $4000 out of pocket. A procedure not covered by our dental and then resubmitted to our health insurance which was also not covered. Fast forward 2016 most of our dental work had to be redone at our new dentist and we now have functioning teeth, healthy mouths and happy hearts.But most of all we are not being ripped off. Please save your money for a lovely vacation and find a practice that will be honest and do what is necessary for your well being not theirs. read more

The office is nice, the hygienists and assistants are nice. The doctor herself is rude and unprofessional. Do NOT recommend this office at all. I had a severe problem with a tooth and was brushed off and treated poorly, accused of calling too much and asking for medicine that I did not ask for. I was insulted by the doctor for simply calling with a concern. Then when I voiced my displeasure, my appointment with a different doctor in the office was cancelled by the office. read more

My new dentist told me that the work performed by Progressive Dental was unnecessary. They insisted on copying not only my dental insurance card but also my health insurance card and driver's license. When I balked and said I would allow them to see the health insurance card and driver's license but not copy them, they claimed that they are legally required to have these copies on file. I have since been told by other dentists that this is untrue. They are constantly upselling. Beware of the "deep cleaning" when they insist you need it - very expensive for three extra scrapes in each quadrant. Seemed like a good place when we started going there but things have changed. read more

Been going here a long time but am now officially looking for a new dentist. Pushy staff who start selling things to you the minute you walk in (I think they recruit staff from used car dealers) who are also some of the most phony people I've ever dealt with. Fake, forceful cheer and small talk which I guess is supposed to make you feel at home (has the direct opposite effect on me) but only sets you up for their sales pitches on unnecessary purchases and procedures is embarrassing. Nice office at Domino's Farms which I assume is very expensive, and probably the reason they are always selling you something. I'm done with this place. read more

There was a time when this place was amazing but its all new faces now and they might have the worst billing system of all time! KEEP ALL OF YOUR RECEIPTS/ESTIMATES. Doctors and nurses are nice but every time you sit in the chair your not sure if its free or $700 dollars and every time you ask you will get a different price. Everything that other people are saying about the divisive ways of this office is true! I too experienced dentists here telling me I had cavity after cavity. Unfortunately I believed these 'dentists' and kept having them filled. Finally after about the 6th visit and the 8th 'cavity' that they found, I turned and looked at the dentist and said "I've never had so many cavities in my life!" Well, he walked out of the office pretty quickly and I went to have a second opinion. Guess what? The three 'cavities' he pointed out didn't even exist! These people that work here are SICK! I finally found the most excellent dentist and guess what? I haven't had a cavity in five years. Beware! Do not let any dentist here ruin your mouth. This office was horrible! It was clean, super clean and the people are super nice, but the experience as a whole was the WORST I've ever experienced. I had an 8:00am appointment, so I arrived early before the office was even open. I filled out paperwork, told them it was done and was called back to the chair at 8:30am. Then, my teeth were looked at, but the computer system was down and so was the x-ray machine. At 9:00, I was told I would have to make another appointment because they only schedule an hour per person. They didn't have any available that week, so I would have to take time off work next week to get in. When I went to the front desk, I was charged a full appointment cleaning and had to pay $30. I received another bill in the mail two months later for more money. I will NEVER return to this office. My husband also had a bad experience, but I'll let him post that under his user name. I would HIGHLY recommend another dentist office. read more
