There is no lifeguard on duty but there is always some one from the department patrolling for other violations. Talking about violations. NO alcohol/bottles, No animals. Plenty of parking. The sand, grass area, water is clean and well maintained. It does get dirty during peak hours but they do come clean few times a day. This pond is isolated from other water bodies around it. Keeps it little cleaner. Makes it good for scuba diving and there is some fishing as well. The have amazing trail system in the park for cycling and hiking. There is a trail around this pond. If you hike to the back of the pond, there is some water access (private beach). Or a spot to take your girl friend. There are two sand volleyball courts with net. One shed which can be reserved. This park is ideal because it's away from the crowded beaches around the area. Only thing, there could have been more trees in the lawn area for shade and tie your hammock.

One of the posts said that this is because of the amount of geese that have been frequenting the lake this year or because of runoff from rain. We went once before we knew about the e coli issues and actually had a great time. The beach (we thought) appeared clean and the water was the perfect cool temperature on a hot summer day. The swimming area went deep enough that we could float away from the littles on the shoreline. There were two life guards on duty. They have really amazing facilities where a get together was being held under the pavilion. They have a snack station, but we brought our own chips and sodas. They also have a splash pad with water slides. This area was closed when we went, and you have to pay a little more to access this area. They also have some cool trails and a frisbee golf course. You can bring dogs, but not to the designated swimming area. I hope they figure out the e coli issues because we would love to go back.

The city of Brighton has done a really good job of building and maintaining this play park and the location being in the center of downtown is walking distance to all the wonderful business that this city has to offer. I have yet to see a concert there since the updates, the weekly car show along with Sunday concerts were a long standing tradition and fantastic. It is a shame to see the park theater empty of any entertainment like it used to be. Make the price affordable or free to use, after all it is tax dollars that paid for it.

Integral with this park you will find a very nice large children's play area with multiple wooden structures, Outdoor fire pit, Veterans memorial, and outdoor concert area. Overall it is a very nice and well thought park that really adds a lot to downtown Brighton and is a great example why this small city is so desirable and a destination spot for spending a day or nite downtown. One of my favorite things to do when visiting my son who lives downtown is to walk to Mill Pond with my grandkids, let them play at the park and end up eating lunch there and/or getting them ice cream. This community effort has resulted in a fine museum and charming, historic village that attracts many visitors, weddings and events. The Museum is open Saturday and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Special tours can be arranged by contacting the Historical Society at (248) 437-9929. The Witch's Hat Depot in Historic Village Depot The Witch's Hat Depot functions as a museum and the gathering place for the South Lyon Historical Society. It's distinctive roof line gives the building it's name: The Witch's Hat. The building was moved from the original location on East Lake Street to McHattie Park in 1976 as a bicentennial project and it now serves as the focal point for the historic village. The interior of the depot has been preserved to show what a turn-of-the-century train depot would look like. The Historical Society uses the Depot and the nearby Freight Building to store historic documents. The Depot is an excellent resource for railroad buffs or those who simply want to know more about the history of South Lyon. This website gives a more comprehensive history of the building, including its role in the state railroad system and a photo of the depot under construction in 1909 as well as a photograph of the depot in the 1970s before it was moved to its current location in McHattie Park. Historic Village Depot Caboose The caboose is fun for all, railroad buffs, children and the simply curious. It is a Chesapeake & Ohio caboose dating from 1926. The interior is furnished as much as it might have been when in daily use by the rail road workers. The caboose was moved to the museum site in 1982. Freight House Historic Village The freight house was built in 1984 to provide a much needed community meeting area as well as additional museum display areas. The basement is the museum's archive. The building design compliments the Depot. Funding for the freight house was provided by the City and the Historical Commission. In addition, all of the interior finish work was done by volunteers both amateurs and professional, making this truly a community building. It is an attractive, comfortable place to hold meetings and special events. Historic Village Washburn School Washburn School District #5 in Green Oak Township, Livingston County, was built in 1907 to replace a log school building. It served the families in the area until 1953 when the district consolidated with South Lyon Schools. The building was donated to the City of South Lyon in 1984 by the Gordon Wood Family. In the interim, it was used as a church and for a short time as a home. The City, in conjunction with the South Lyon Area Historical Society moved the schoolhouse to its present site in McHattie Park where is serves the community as part of the museum and the historic village. School children hold day-long classes in the building giving them a "one room school house" experience. The school is open for tours as part of the museum complex and is available for meetings and other community needs. Little Village Chapel in the Historic Village The Little Village Chapel is the most recent addition the Historic Village. This 1930's era "kit building" was donated to the City by the congregation of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. The building was moved in 2001 from East Liberty Street to its current site. Historic Village Gazebo The gazebo in the McHattie Park Historic Village was built in 1991 to compliment the circa 1900 village. It is used by the community for band concerts and other entertainment. It is a welcome shelter for these wanting some shade or just a comfortable place to sit while visiting the Historic Village. More than halfway into the trail, splits with an option to bike towards Island Lake recreation area of Kensington Park. Path is nicely shaded but if you opt to head towards K. Park it is mostly sunny and straddles a highway before reaching the park. Starting in Lyon the path starts across from the Paul Baker Memorial. This is a rails to trails path and still has an operating line.
