We came as a group of 7 with kids age 8-12, for a 1 hour guided ride. We had a wonderful time, even wearing masks because it was Smokey. We got to ask questions about the horses and environment. We were COVID safe with distance, masks, cleaning hands with hand sanitizer. The guides took pictures for us - which was nice that they didn't charge extra for that. McGee Creek Pack station is a hidden gem, I highly recommend it, and I will definitely be back Carissa, Gabi, Sara, Caymen, and all the staff were A-Mazing! They are so knowledgeable, experienced, and friendly. You feel like you are in very good hands. The ranch is run very well and sits tucked away with a peaceful creek flowing along the pack station, which adds to its remarkable beauty. My husband and sister chose to hike the McGee Creek trail and left from the pack station, as I chose the 2 hour trail ride. They absolutely loved their hike and highly recommend it! Carissa, Gabi, and Sara prepped us well before the ride and answered any questions we had. The terrain is incredibly stunning with so much to see. We even crossed a shallow stream in some spots, which was so beautiful. Gabi knew the names of the spectacular wildflowers blooming, and she shared some interesting facts as we rode. Amazing staff, amazing experience! I took my sister and nephew for my sisters birthday weekend getaway. It was my second time horse back riding so I wasn't scared, my nephew however was super scared and didn't want to ride, Kane our tour guide and the staff were super encouraging and calmed him down, by the end of the ride he was In love with it and couldn't stop talking about it. Just went on the 2 hour ride to Horsetail Falls and it was fantastic. We are a group of 3 mature women with varying levels of experience and we all loved it. Our guide provided us with lots of information about plants, the mountains and some history of the area. All of the staff were super easy to work with. I went in the slow time before kids were out of school. I booked a 2 hour ride to Horsetail Falls and was the only rider. My guide was outstanding! She pointed out and named the different peaks, several wild flowers and gave me a heads up before we got to water crossings or rocky areas. It was a breathtaking ride! Do yourself a favor and experience the grandeur and sheer magnitude of the John Muir Wilderness from the back of a McGee Creek Pack Station animal. I booked online several weeks in advance for my Tahoe trip in early June -- did this ride on my way out of the area. Review the suggestions and protocols on their website, and fill out the release form in advance to facilitate the process. More time for riding!! This business knows what to do to give you a safe and immensely enjoyable experience. Trust them to put you on the best animal, be it a horse or mule. I've ridden horses all my life; this ride with Snoopy was my first experience on a mule and I'm so glad I had it! Couldn't have asked for a better mount! Five stars to Lynn, my guide! The perfect balance of friendly and professional. Her longtime love of this canyon makes her the perfect ambassador to show visitors its stunning beauty. She was cordial with hikers we encountered on the trail, and educated me when I told her I'm interested in all the plants and tree species. Such a wonderful experience from start to finish! I did the 4hr ride to Beaver Pond in late Sept 2021 with 2 of my friends for my birthday. Highlights: friendly staff, awesome horses and mules, good attention to safety. Booking: Carissa (spelling??) was very friendly and accommodating during the booking process. They ask your level of experience, age, height, and weight of each rider to match you with the appropriate horse. We were matched PERFECTLY to the ones we rode! Location: Easy parking, clean ranch, bathroom available. Hoofstock: All looked healthy, good hooves (something I always look out for), well cared for, and well trained. They have horses and mules for beginners to experienced riders. The Ride: They start by talking about safety and give some riding instructions on how to handle your horse/mule. Safety seemed to be a top priority to them, which I loved! The scenery during the ride was BEAUTIFUL! Our guide (Sara) was very attentive to each rider and was great at pointing out peaks, land marks, and interesting facts about the area. We were on mules and they were perfect! So well behaved! McGee Creek Pack Station is our absolute favorite. Our family has gone there twice to horseback (or muleback?) ride while visiting the Mammoth area. The owner, Carissa, is amazing with my two young kids and has been a wonderful guide. I called McGee to see if they had any available trips out that same day or the next day. The associates were so super accommodating and made reservations for later that day. My son and I signed up for the 4 hour ride up Mcgee Creek to Beaver Pond. It was the first time my son rode a horse. He's 11 years old and riding into the high Sierra up scree and over rocks with 10,000 foot (+) peaks all around could have been a little intimidating. We did a morning 2 hour trail ride at McGee. What an AMAZING time! We've been coming to Mammoth for years and years, and were looking for something new to add to our "to-do" list besides the usual trail hikes and fishing on the lakes. This is a definite must-do if you're looking for things to do in the Mammoth area. What a way to see the mountains!! The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and the horses and mules are so sweet and calm. You can tell they are well-fed and well-loved. Reba was trusty and plowed us along -- looking so cute the whole time (and sneaking bites of grass along the way -- a girl after my own heart)! I was so impressed with the trail leaders. Our trail guide, Greta, did such an awesome job pointing out the different flowers and plants along the trail. She was so knowledgeable, and made the 2 hour ride so informative and fun. We stopped a few times along the way to take a breather, and in those stops the trail guides ensured our riding equipment was comfortable. The half-day trail rides aren't currently running, but we would SURELY schedule one if they were. Next summer without a doubt! We can't wait to return. I had a wonderful half-day ride in the beautiful John Muir Wilderness with McGee Creek Pack Station! We rode to the beaver ponds amid breathtaking scenery on sure-footed mules (mine was named Buckwheat) with a friendly guide named Sara. I originally was booked for a 2-hour ride because there weren't enough people to schedule the longer ride. Well, Gabi called me the night before saying they had another person interested in the 4-hour ride and if I would change from Wednesday to Thursday it could be done. Talk about customer service! It ended up that one other rider and myself were able to take the ride and it turned out perfectly. I recommend this pack station highly for the customer service and the horses and mules which were so obviously well taken care of. read more
