One of the best rides I have ever had. It was a two hour ride into the John Muir wilderness. Both of the wranglers were amazing and always looked over us so that we were safe. If you were looking for a place to ride in the Mammoth area this is the place. Some of the other ones in the Mammoth area weren't even open yet. read more

5 out 5 stars for McGee pack station. It was such a great time. We have done a few other pack stations in the area and this by far has been our favorite. Everybody at McGee was super friendly and helpful with making sure we had the best possible trip. Our packer Paula was awesome and she made the trip so much fun. Loved the mules we got to ride. McGee canyon is beautiful, there were so many wild flowers. Looking forward to booking again in the fall when the leaves start to change. Highly recommend McGee pack station. I would ignore the reviews of the owner being rude. She was incredible. Great customer service, communicated with us clearly and was just as excited for us as we were to go on our ride. read more

ALL WOMAN TEAM! Loved our experience at McGee Creek Pack Station! The wranglers were great with a wide range of rider (in)experience. Chloe was so warm with our toddler who rode pony Beans on a lead. I enjoyed a trail ride with amazing views of the snow fields and seemingly endless wild flowers. We'll be back on our next visit to the area! read more

This is my 4th ride with McGee Creek, 3rd in the Alabama Hills, and I love their animals and the whole operation--very customer friendly and efficient. Fantastic experience from booking to the final sad dismount and goodbye. Healthy, happy, sociable, reliable animals--I love the mules the most! Note that negative reviews are from many years ago under old management. Carissa and Tyler and Chloe are super! read more

Absolutely recommend. Gorgeous 2 hour ride to horsetail falls with our family of 6 (ages 7 to 13), two of whom had never been on a horse before. The owner, Miss Carissa, took us on our ride and was super patient with us and took the time to teach us about different things in the area. We learned about plants and crazy ski paths. We all loved everything about it, couldn't have been happier with the experience. Thank you!! read more

Could not have had a better time. My wife and I did the half-day trip. Neither of us had ridden a horse in over 40 years. The team made everything easy and we felt really comfortable. Larry was an amazing guide pointing out interesting plants and geography information. 10/10 experience. read more

We came as a group of 7 with kids age 8-12, for a 1 hour guided ride. We had a wonderful time, even wearing masks because it was Smokey. We got to ask questions about the horses and environment. We were COVID safe with distance, masks, cleaning hands with hand sanitizer. The guides took pictures for us - which was nice that they didn't charge extra for that. Also, we bought their branded bandanas and horse and mule shoes. Definitely will come back!! read more

McGee Creek Pack station is a hidden gem, I highly recommend it, and I will definitely be back Carissa, Gabi, Sara, Caymen, and all the staff were A-Mazing! They are so knowledgeable, experienced, and friendly. You feel like you are in very good hands. The ranch is run very well and sits tucked away with a peaceful creek flowing along the pack station, which adds to its remarkable beauty. My husband and sister chose to hike the McGee Creek trail and left from the pack station, as I chose the 2 hour trail ride. They absolutely loved their hike and highly recommend it! Carissa, Gabi, and Sara prepped us well before the ride and answered any questions we had. The terrain is incredibly stunning with so much to see. We even crossed a shallow stream in some spots, which was so beautiful. Gabi knew the names of the spectacular wildflowers blooming, and she shared some interesting facts as we rode. She checked on us frequently and lended help whenever needed. Sara did a great job in the back of the trail ride, and was right there to help out when needed. You can tell these people treat the horses and mules well. The staff are friendly and our guide was amazing! He talked about the different plants, helped us with identifying them, and he explained some history and geography. The scenery was beautiful. We had an amazing time. Staff were patient and personable. The kids (ages 13, 10, and 8) had a great time. Highly recommend.

Amazing staff, amazing experience! I took my sister and nephew for my sisters birthday weekend getaway. It was my second time horse back riding so I wasn't scared, my nephew however was super scared and didn't want to ride, Kane our tour guide and the staff were super encouraging and calmed him down, by the end of the ride he was In love with it and couldn't stop talking about it. Literally lol. I can't even describe how beautiful and extraordinary the view was. If you love nature I truly recommend going! Great experience and look forward to visiting in the near future read more

Just went on the 2 hour ride to Horsetail Falls and it was fantastic. We are a group of 3 mature women with varying levels of experience and we all loved it. Our guide provided us with lots of information about plants, the mountains and some history of the area. All of the staff were super easy to work with. Last, but not least, our horses (and one mule) were stellar performers and confidence builders for the less experienced. The beauty of this canyon is hard to match. read more

Absolutely incredible! I've been on my share of trail rides in spectacular locations and this one tops the list!!! The four-hour loop to Beaver Pond was unbeatable. Do yourself a favor and experience the grandeur and sheer magnitude of the John Muir Wilderness from the back of a McGee Creek Pack Station animal. I booked online several weeks in advance for my Tahoe trip in early June -- did this ride on my way out of the area. Review the suggestions and protocols on their website, and fill out the release form in advance to facilitate the process. More time for riding!! This business knows what to do to give you a safe and immensely enjoyable experience. Trust them to put you on the best animal, be it a horse or mule. I've ridden horses all my life; this ride with Snoopy was my first experience on a mule and I'm so glad I had it! Couldn't have asked for a better mount! Five stars to Lynn, my guide! The perfect balance of friendly and professional. Her longtime love of this canyon makes her the perfect ambassador to show visitors its stunning beauty. She was cordial with hikers we encountered on the trail, and educated me when I told her I'm interested in all the plants and tree species. She also kept us safe when one hiker didn't want to observe trail etiquette. Having Lynn was the icing on the cake of this experience! Thanks to all at McGee Creek Pack Station. I don't know exactly when I'll be back, but I do know that I will not forget this wonderful experience! read more

Note: This is my first yelp review ever. Truly awesome experience. We signed up for the 4 hour ride and it was a great time. The animals were great, the team at the pack station and the ones who accompanied us up were friendly, professional, and just all round great. We had experienced riders, with first timers and you never felt as though there was any disconnect. The view was great, the group was great, the company was great. Such a wonderful experience from start to finish! I did the 4hr ride to Beaver Pond in late Sept 2021 with 2 of my friends for my birthday. Highlights: friendly staff, awesome horses and mules, good attention to safety. Booking: Carissa (spelling??) was very friendly and accommodating during the booking process. They ask your level of experience, age, height, and weight of each rider to match you with the appropriate horse. We were matched PERFECTLY to the ones we rode! Location: Easy parking, clean ranch, bathroom available. Hoofstock: All looked healthy, good hooves (something I always look out for), well cared for, and well trained. They have horses and mules for beginners to experienced riders. The Ride: They start by talking about safety and give some riding instructions on how to handle your horse/mule. Safety seemed to be a top priority to them, which I loved! The scenery during the ride was BEAUTIFUL! Our guide (Sara) was very attentive to each rider and was great at pointing out peaks, land marks, and interesting facts about the area. We were on mules and they were perfect! So well behaved! I wanted to take my mule home with me I highly recommend Mcgee Creek Packstation! They helped make my birthday a memorable one! read more

I went in the slow time before kids were out of school. I booked a 2 hour ride to Horsetail Falls and was the only rider. My guide was outstanding! She pointed out and named the different peaks, several wild flowers and gave me a heads up before we got to water crossings or rocky areas. It was a breathtaking ride! I highly recommend this pack station. The 1 hour ride goes next to the creek and would be perfect for families with kids! I will be back! read more

This pack station was great! We had had reservations at another pack outfit that cancelled on us without notice. I called McGee to see if they had any available trips out that same day or the next day. The associates were so super accommodating and made reservations for later that day. My 2 8 year olds and I had never rode horses before. One of my twins got really scared to go on the horse but the team really encouraged her and we're so kind. The horses and mules were really fun with personalities that really shown through. The views on the trail were breathtaking. I can't say well enough about the team that helped us that day! read more
