The solenoid went out on the starter on my pick up truck and I didn't want to risk driving to a shop not having a starter and towing would be $100 each way. So I called these guys and scheduled an appointment. I didn't know they were located in Salem, with me in Eugene , I was ready to keep looking but they were open to scheduling for the following week, the truck had been sitting for 6 months so it didn't much matter to me. They communicated and were on time with all encounters and the job was completed and all I needed to do was to replace the two batterie$. I would recommend their service and would use again. I don't recommend this shop to anyone looking for a shop with integrity and looking to just put money in their pocket! On 1st visit with out even doing a physical check especially around the starter since I had mentioned I had replaced starter. At end of visit I was told clutch switch needed replaced. 2nd visit switch replaced then I was told ECM was bad... What?! How can they say that's bad but after fixing something that cost me almost 800. Long story short I went 7 months no vehicle and about to scrap my car u till I had a second opinion mechanic come and all it was is the pin where starter connects to cable wasn't on all the way. I was told 2 weeks, it took 7. Multiple missed appointments with no communication and no communication about the delays on the part repair. I was told $5500 worst case scenario, it came out to $8800. They caim that the estimated $5500 worst case was only for the part repair, not the whole job including labor. I had to text and call multiple times a week to get updates of any kind on the ever growing timeline. Newly made appointments to repair would come and go with no contact. Had I not been so proactive, I imagine my truck would still be broken down. And when I pushed back on all of this, I was met with combative, unprofessional replies and a refusal to take any responsibility or really even acknowledge that I had anything worthy of being upset about. In the end, my truck works, but there are plenty of mechanics that could have pulled that off, likely for less money and less effort on my part. As a business owner, I know that acknowledging when you've screwed up goes a long way. Had I been met with even a small bit of understanding or proactive communication along the way, I wouldn't be taking the time to write this review. Get anyone else to fix your truck. So I have An onan generator on my Fuzion fifth wheel trailer. The generator would run for about 15 minutes and then shut down. I then set up an appointment for them to come to the RV shop. At the RV shop Sam the mechanic called me and stated the carburetor on the generator needed to be cleaned and that was the issue and that would cost 412.33. That seemed high but I wanted my generator fixed and I said go ahead and get it done. A few hours later I received a call from Sam and he stated the generator now needs a new fuel pump and they would call me later with a cost. I finally received a call from Alice a few days later and the cost to RR the fuel pump was 668.00. I then asked to have the cost of the fuel pump and labor. The cost of the fuel pump was over 200.00 and the rest was labor. I then stated I could get the pump online for 30 dollars and its should take about an hour to RR. Alice then change thee cost to 185.00 to RR and the cost of the part stayed the same. I decided to move on and look for someone else. Now I'm out 412.00 and my generator still does not operate properly. The main issue I have is when I called to set up the first appointmeant I told them I had just replaced booth fuel filters on the generator and it most likely needs a new fuel pump. During the replacement, the technician lost/broke the positive terminal battery bolt. I learned this when I took my car in for maintenance due to the check engine light being on after battery replacement. I was charged xxxx from the Carr Chevy dealership to fix the damage. On 8/11 I contacted McFarland's and spoke to Jimmy (?) and asked who I send the reimbursement claim to. He told me it was not their concern, I should have taken the car to them. Why would I take my car to the place that created the damage rather than the trusted dealership I have a relationship with since the damaged was caused by their company? How was I suppose to know they broke off a piece? read more

These people are dishonest - PERIOD. They are still chasing me for work they never did in June of 2017. NO DIAGNOSIS, NO REPAIRS. I diagnosed the problem before I called - a broken weld on the tail pipe. The tech refused to weld a tail pipe because it was raining. He refused to fix a pan gasket because he said the part was not available. I bought the part at Autozone and did it myself. They billed me for showing up. The manager told me they didn't charge for a service call if they didn't do anything. There staff now says: "You scheduled the job and received the expertise of our tech in the form of a diagnosis. It is your responsibility to pay. The tech we sent three years ago is still with us today and is a very valued member of our team. He has never been concerned with rain in the slightest. We will always charge for appointments, and nobody here would say otherwise. Again, and this is the most important part, we are not the company contacting you. We sold your unpaid invoice several years ago and are no longer in control of any collection attempts. Even if we agreed to reverse the charge, it wouldn't cease or desist any collection attempts. I'm giving this 2 stars because the staff is nice, but I want to share our experience as an FYI in case you are looking for a pre-purchase inspection. We called, spoke with Zoey, and she scheduled our appointment quickly which we appreciated because when interested in a car, a seller isn't going to wait a week for you to have an inspection/make a decision. A mechanic was sent out, he was polite and called the seller prior to showing up. He inspected the car and he called us with the results and was going to email the report which we did not get until 2 days later after calling to request it. The verbal made us feel comfortable with the purchase. We were told we needed all 4 brake pad replaced, the A/C recharged, new wipers, oil change, and at some point in the future a new battery, steering components, timing belt, and water pump. Most everything else was good with the car -- he even said the car is in the best condition he's seen for the year it is. We got a hold of the seller after speaking with him and expressed some concerns with the points he brought up. The seller informed us that he had spoken to her already, told her it was in the best condition he's seen for the year, and showed her a report that she read as being perfect. We let it all sink in, figured out how much brakes were etc, and the seller came down a few hundred dollars. We bought the car and took it for an oil change immediately and I asked if they recharge air conditioners -- and they did. After changing the oil, they came to me with the serpentine belt in half that had been melted to the engine and not where it was supposed to be. They told me that is probably why A/C is not cold and put a new belt on it. The A/C blew cold without the recharge but the A/C compressor was shot and making a terrible noise. This noise is going to cost us around $1000 to fix. Our concern is he didn't see the missing belt and he didn't see the belt stuck to the engine. This belt is right by the radiator in full view when you open the hood. Another issue with the inspection that worked out in our favor, but make us wonder about the competency of the mechanic sent, is he told us we needed 4 new brake pads. We took the car to Les Schwab and they were good upon inspection. After getting home from a long day with the car, we called and requested they send the report we were supposed to have received. When we got the report, some points were contradictory from what the mechanic verbally told us -- report said brakes are fine. But, he did not report the A/C belt was stuck to the engine, reporting it needed a recharge. We called and discussed it with the company and their response was "it's a visual inspection, and it's not an in depth inspection" and asked what our purpose was for the call. We told them we wish the car would have been properly inspected and we don't expect that they pay the price for the A/C compressor, BUT we did as for our money back and that did not happen. I would recommend another company for your pre-purchase inspection. The people are nice, but the service isn't there. He's disrespectful, doesn't let you finish your sentence and really has no business in the automotive industry. He brags about "oh we've been in the industry for over 11 years" lol, doing what? Wasting people's time? I asked for an estimate for my Mazda and this dude took forever to get back to me. Then when I call the office to check and see if he's got anything for me, he says give me some more time to look up parts and prices. I gave this dude over a day and he wants to act like I'm inconveniencing him? For an estimate to do business with them? What a clown. I called Wrench right after this and was able to get professional customer service, an estimate for my vehicle and the work done all in a timely manner. Nothing but great things to say about McFarland's Mobile Mechanic. In a freakish feat of strength (I say that jokingly, but it really was an unusual occurrence), my column shifter was having a hard time coming into gear and when I tried to force it a bit, I ended up snapping it. But I didn't snap the shifter; I actually snapped the solid metal housing that was holding it completely in half. I tried to research it, but it just doesn't seem like a common thing... so much so that the manufacturer doesn't even sell that part separately (which was really annoying trying to procure one from salvage because I ended up having to buy an entire steering column). My first experience with McFarland's was to get this issue diagnosed and to see if there was anything that could be done to repair it. Jeff came out and was good to work with, although admittedly, there wasn't much he could do. He even tried to find the part online, with no success. Based on the literature he could find, the only fix was to replace the steering column altogether, because that part wasn't manufactured/sold separately. But a visual inspection showed that the part was detachable and probably should have been serviceable; it just didn't appear to be sold anywhere. To Jeff's credit, he did try to use some JB Weld to hold it together as a short term fix, but it just didn't hold enough to cure. So I ended up shopping around various salvage sites online to get my hands on a used steering column. After some digging, I was able to locate one that was reasonably priced and had similar mileage to my truck. So I ordered it and scheduled the mechanic to come back out. Originally, I was planning to have Jeff come out again just because he was familiar with it, but he got pulled onto a large job and my appointment was going to be rescheduled. That wasn't super convenient for me (because I had already blocked off a day from work). So they arranged to have another guy come out - and it was actually two guys - Charlie and I believe Austin (apologies but I didn't quite catch his name). They were prepared to replace the steering column, but wanted to look at the part first. Just as Jeff had said - and from what I could decipher just looking at it - it looked serviceable without having to replace the whole column. I would rather not replace the whole column if I didn't need to just because I know the salvage part came from a vehicle that was in a front-end collision; and I also knew my steering column was working fine minus that piece that I snapped (so I obviously didn't want to risk taking out a good unit and putting in an "okay" unit" if I didn't have to). Sure enough Charlie was able to swap out the parts without issue. I'm sure it took some work to get under the dash enough to be able to access all of the pieces connecting it, but he did it. He worked quickly and efficiently, and they were done within an hour. I fired it up, popped it in and out of gear, and it felt great - even better than with my old shifter. Overall, I was very happy with both the service and the work of all of the folks who I interacted it. The price was reasonable, and both Jeff the first time around and Charlie and Austin the second time around, seemed focused on getting the job done right. I hope to never have to use them again, but if I do, I know who I'm calling. And I'd definitely recommend them to others as well. read more

I am beyond impressed with the service I received from McFarland's. I am in the process of restoring a vintage RV which is very near and dear to my heart, but I've received a lukewarm response from other mechanics (who I suspect think a busted camper from the 70s isn't going to be a good place to make money). McFarland's was exceedingly professional from the moment I called to schedule my appointment. The mechanic who showed up surveyed my vehicle and gave me a fair cost to repair. The diagnostic cost seemed high, but not unreasonable since they had to come to me, but the cost would have been more than justified by the care the mechanic took to survey my vehicle. Due to some problems removing parts, the repair took hours longer than anticipated, but this did not affect the cost. I believe the mechanic was entirely fair and honest when he explained that I would need to make some minor surprise repairs, but other items I thought needed to be repaired immediately could wait. I've shared the invoice with other mechanic friends who think I probably paid about 15% less with McFarland's than I would have had I brought it to an RV repair shop. I'm looking forward to working with them more in the future! read more

Yesterday my car started shaking violently while stopped at a stop light. I made it home but didn't want to risk driving again and breaking down so I thought I would give the mobile mechanics a try since they come to you to diagnose your problem. I was so amazed by the whole experience. I called around 11am and someone was out to look at my car before 4pm that same day. And then he said he could repair my car right there as well. I was thrilled! I'm a single mom who's temporarily out of work and having to use a walker due to health issues so I was appreciative of not having to drag my kids or myself to a repair shop. And even though he didn't have the parts he was able to go to a local store to buy them so I could have the repair done that night. Talk about quick and convenient. Brian, my technician was also very friendly and personable and happy to show and explain everything he was doing and I never felt pressured by the up sell. I plan on calling them for all future issues and even for mundane tasks like oil changes! read more

They are really great at what they do. I feel like Kevin has good integrity and is a real straight shooter. He missed an appointment with me and to make up for it he showed up to my house personally, on a sunday, on the day of the superbowl to change my sensor. It was fixed in less than an hour for around 65 bucks. I was so impressed by him and his team I called him 1st thing when my window regulator broke and my car was stuck open. He got on the job that night and was done within 24 hours. I have always been afraid of the Upsell at mechanics. Leifs did good work for me but I always felt like they took every since chance at up-selling me and every time I sent in it was 1000 a pop! I have warranty on my breaks but i am literally afraid to go there because of the usual up sell hard pressure tactics. Kevin was not like that at all. He told about some things he would recommend but he educated me on why they were important and told me what kind of time frame I had to try and replace those parts. He goes all over portland and has a good staff of Mobile Mechanics with fully stocked vans. It was pretty cool also, they were highly recommended by o'riellys auto parts and were able to get parts at hours when normal people could not. I had a hard time with stars. The pros are big pros but the cons are big too. The pros make me want to give them 5 stars, but the cons make me want to give them 1. :/ CONS: 1) The mechanics are chronically several hours late without letting you know they are running behind or what is going on. The last 4 times, they have been 3+ hours late with no call. I always have to call the office and go back and forth 2 or 3 times to find out when the mechanic might show up. Today the mechanic was 7 hours late. He was supposed to be here between 10 and 11 am. I called at 12, then again at 2 and again at 3 when I was finally told he would be here within an hour or so. At 4 got a call from the mechanic saying he was still an hour away. He finally showed up just after 6. 2) The office people are terrible about returning calls or calling you back as promised. Such as, I will call you back in 5 min to let you know whats going on, but instead I called back 40 min later to ask if he had an answer for me. They don't return calls and they don't call back when they say they will. Serious lack of communication. This has been my experience for the last 2 + years. ( I have been using McFarlands since 2011 ish) 3) The office and mechanics seem very unorganized. 3 times I have had mechanics show up not completely prepared and 2 times have had to let them leave without finishing the job and come back the next day, which means the wait game as to when they will actually show up all over again. This really tries my patience. They have also forgotten to hand over my receipt the last 3 times they were here. (which reminds me, I need to go ask for this one, he didn't give it to me when I paid.) And when I called the office to ask for the receipts, they kept forgetting to email it to me and finally I gave up. I used to pay with cash, I now use a card so I have a bank record. PROS: 1) They stand behind their work. They are fixing the major problem under warranty, even though they cant find the paperwork. Pretty stand up in my opinion. 2) Overall they are good and well informed mechanics. They call each other and get any information they need. The job is done right, and they will fix it if its not. 3) Unlike some big chains or typical mechanic shops, I have never had the office or mechanics trying to squeeze un-nessassary work and money out of me. 4) Most of their mechanics are quite nice, comfortable to talk with and allow me to ask questions about what they are doing when they are here. They don't seem to get bothered by much and just do their work without disrupting what you have going on at home. Also any mechanic I have had out here is more than happy to tell me exactly what they are doing, where they are at with the work and even answer off topic mechanical questions about your car. Big plus for me. I like to know whats happening to my car and if I should be thinking about getting anything else fixed. 5) Though the mechanics are chronically, un-bearabley late and don't communicate so you know they wont be on time, the mechanic did stay and work late into the night to finish the job. The mechanic was 7 hours late today, and it took about 4 calls to get him here, but, its 11:30 pm and he is still out there. Since it was supposed to be done yesterday. Of course I'm tired as hell and have to get up at 5:30 am and really want to go to bed. So a bit of a con, but glad it will be done tonight, or at this point technically Tuesday morning. In the end, would I recommend them?. I would for the work but would also say that you have to be a super patient and relaxed person who has no give a damn about time or nothing else to do. Dealing with the chronic late and even pushing me off for an extra day or so, (yea that's happened a couple of times. Sucks to expect your car to be fixed Tuesday to find out they aren't really coming til Friday) is exceptionally difficult for me. I also have a hard time with the lack of communication. At the same time, they do a really good job, just late. They are honest and stand behind their work. That tips the scale for me just enough to keep using them. They seem like a bunch of nice guys who are good mechanics, just unprofessional and unorganized. read more

Joe did an amazing job! I was stranded in my works parking lot and completely over having to jump my car to start. I called them around 12:30pm and they gave me a 4pm-6pm timeframe for them to arrive. However, I got a call at 2:30pm saying they were on their way. Two thumbs way up.
