It's not the best fast food take out place. I love the cheese burgers from mc d's but some how this place can mess it up... fair play

The restaurant has a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere and serves up an American-style BBQ menu. Portion sizes are big and the quality of the meat is never in doubt. On this visit I discovered their chicken wings, which have to be the best chicken wings I've had in the UK, and I'm struggling to remember any wings sampled in the U.S. that would beat them! The secret is definitely in the coating - I'm just gutted I didn't discover them sooner! Their southern fried chicken burger is my favourite burger from here, however unfortunately on this occasion they served it with blue cheese on top rather than the regular cheese I asked for. No problem though, they were more than happy to make a fresh burger which was just as delicious as always. The Surf, Bird & Turf Combo and BBQ Ribs are also great choices. My biggest plus about this place though is their fries; the best fries I've ever eaten. Consistently awesome on every visit, beautifully crispy and well-seasoned. Big 5 stars from me as I've had 5 fantastic meals here, and they have Brahma on tap which is a bonus.

Beer, good. Food, meh…read more Staying at the Travelodge across the roundabout, the Cwrt Rawlin was not going to escape my clutches for dinner. It's part of the Marston's Inns and Taverns chain, so I am somewhat familiar with it. On this particular evening, the parking lot was packed. I don't know if it's usually this busy or it's the Cheese Festival that has dragged all these people to Caerphilly. Either way, walking in was pleasant. Lots of families with kids always makes me feel welcome. As an American, I know what a "bar" is and the sort of crowd that inhabit them. This was nothing like that. Most of the tables were filled and there was a warm conversational buzz about the place. I managed to find a table against the wall and perused the menu. It's the typical British (Welsh?) way of doing things, where you place your order at the bar with your table number and pay for it there, and when it's ready the staff bring it to your table. I opted to go with a beer I'd never heard of, Ringwood's Fortyniner (a bitter) and a safe bet of bangers and mash. The food was about ten minutes and while it had the right presentation, the flavor and texture were completely missing. The bangers ("sausages" in American) had no flavor, almost like they had been boiled. The carrots were mushy. The mashed potatoes were just bland. I wouldn't recommend this at all. When my meal was done, I left. After that, I just wasn't interested in hanging around or having another pint.

For my close group of friends, the Cwrt Rawlin is a regular haunt that has provided the backdrop for many memorable nights over the years; be it birthdays, Christmas Eve celebrations or just a random local night out. The bar is stocked with a good selection of beers, wines and spirits, and offers the ever-tempting option to double up your chosen shot when ordering a spirit with a mixer; which can often be the difference between a quiet night and a forgotten one. However, service can be a wait at times, with me regularly finding myself left staring at an empty glass for prolonged periods of time when the pub is busy. They also offer a solid food menu, with Wednesday being the resident Curry Night, Sunday boasting a traditional Sunday roast and the great deal of two courses for £4.25 from Monday to Saturday. Although, the standard of food varies from time to time, with a previous experience of Red Leicester chicken arriving minus the chicken, i.e. being served up a delicious helping of melted cheese. Yum. Serving faux pas aside, this is a good pub to find yourself in on a Friday night.

Firehouse Rotisserie - Fresh flowers on the table and a water pitcher all to ourselves

After some browsing for a few blocks, we came across Firehouse Rotisserie and decided to give it a try! First off, the restaurant is in a very beautiful, charming, old building. The building, like this city, seems to ooze wisdom and history! On to the food! I decided to go with the rotisserie chicken with potatoes and other veggies on the side. It was soooo flavorful, tender, and juicy! Seriously! And it was a very filling and hearty meal that fueled our further sightseeing for the day. Service was quick and friendly as well. I highly recommend stopping by and trying the rotisserie chicken!

My sister and I are a bit picky, but I'd had this spot marked for months in preparation for our trip to Bath as one of the few restaurants that had something we'd both eat, and boy did it turn out. We split the margarita pizza and a side of asparagus, which the chef ran all the way upstairs to make sure they had, -- it was so good. Possibly the best asparagus I've ever had, and we were stoked to get some veggies with dinner. The pizza crust was perfectly thin and crispy, but thick enough at the end to really sink your teeth into. Fresh basil and expertly roasted tomatoes (absolutely bursting with flavor) made for an off the charts margarita. It's hard to go wrong here but, this one really knocked it out of the park. Seating was quick, though we were on the earlier side, with water pitcher all to ourselves, which we love to get, and very clean well kept restrooms! -- though not very accessible, you must climb four flights of stairs. Try Mr. B's Emporium of Reading Delights if you have time before or afterwards, which is a beautiful and well stocked bookstore right across the street. Definitely stop by if you're in town, this one was a win! (Try the chocolate ice cream).
