I think I have the same playlist on Spotify. The absolute game changer though was the FISH & CHIPS. OMG.. I didn't realize how effin delicious this could be without being too greasy! . We got there a few hours before closing time and couldn't get a table right away - we were told to come back in an hour but we asked if it would still be possible to get their fish & chips. They asked how many of us would want it and all 5 of us did. Ha! Luckily, they were able to hold enough for us to come back once a table was open. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside. The chips were tasty and the mushy peas were actually good which I wasn't expecting! I'd travel all the way back to England just for this meal at the Scallop Shell.

The restaurant opening times are Monday to Saturday from 7pm to 9.30pm. They also offer bar meals between 12 and 2 pm Mondays to Saturdays and evening meals Monday to Friday from 6 to 8 pm.

Although, guys... if you happen to be on a date in Swansea and want some place to take your date, stop in here because she'll be impressed. While they are known for their seafood, if you are not a fan of seafood there are options for you as well! We were late for our reservation, but they still sat us. Not only were we there in a group, but there were couples, and even a few families, so it appears as though it is popular with a wide range of people. I shared a starter with my date... it was scallops with a side of laverbread. It was the first time I had laverbread and unfortunately I just didn't like it, but my date really seemed to enjoy it. The scallops were wonderful! Don't think I've ever had scallops so fresh. I ordered the salmon with a nicoise salad. The salmon was just done wonderfully... not overcooked at all. The nicoise salad... garnish... whatever it was, I was not as impressed with it. I did have the sauteed potatoes, which were wonderful as well! My date had the scallops, sea bass, and seafood parcel. I tasted the sea bass and it was even better than my salmon! For dessert, we had the trio of bread pudding, apple pie, and creme brulee... Skip the trio and go for the bread pudding. Out of the three it was the best and I had wished I had just ordered the bread pudding! The staff were very attentive and very patient with us... there was quite a bit of wine and bubbly flowing, so you can imagine that our table may have been a handful for them, but they handled it very well! I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere (no, not just because of the wine and champagne...) and hope to go back and try some of the other dishes... and of course have more of that bread pudding!

There are dining rooms both upstairs and down, the latter behind the small bar area. You enter through the shop: the decor - despite this being an 18th century heritage building - is fresh and modern, with dark wood and pale walls, and selected modern art on the walls. We chose the set menu, 3 courses for £26.95. Our starters were the steamed mussels in cider with spring onion and spinach, and roasted red pepper soup; mains were salmon fishcakes with watercress and the chickpea curry (plus a side of hispi cabbage); and we both had the sunken chocolate cake with clotted cream for pudding. (NB the Welsh rarebit isn't veggie - it's made with anchovies.) My starter and main (soup and curry) were perfectly good - the soup especially so - but not exceptional. It didn't surprise me as Rick Stein - both the chef and restaurant - are really all about seafood. My partner found the mussels superb - fresh, sweet, with just the right amount of sauce. Likewise, the fishcakes were excellent and, although they looked small on arrival, they were actually quite filling, and generous on the salmon. The hispi cabbage proved the perfect accompaniment to both mains. The chocolate cake was smooth and velvety, but not too sweet (think a brownie sort of texture) - and perfect if you like dark chocolate. We chose a 250ml glass each of one of the recommended Sauvignon blancs, which also proved a good choice. Service was excellent throughout, and the young server was very skilled at making us feel at home. Including service, the bill came to £95 for two, which for a fine dining experience was pretty good value. Others certainly think so, as on a wet mid-week evening it was packed (so booking definitely advised). There's parking along the main street outside - not a problem in the evening, but potentially a bit more challenging at lunchtime.

I think the best way to describe it is an expensive restaurant for Cardiff standards, while offering get up and order from the counter service. We all had the fish pie which was lovely, however the price did not reflect the food, even if it was a nice fish pie. We spent many years in London dining, but we paid London prices but did not receive London food or servings to reflect the price. What did not help the venue was the ambiance. While dinner had a great atmosphere, lunch was depressing. Empty quiet and dead light upstairs. There were lots of staff on, however only one could speak enough English to actually tell us about the menu or hold a conversation. Just to ask questions of the menu was an ordeal. All in all it's sad after we enjoyed it so much the first time. Who knows in the future we may try again

The food here is quite pricey but I do feel that it's really worth it. Sometimes you've just got to splash the cash a little to get some decent food. And it's worth it. I left feeling full of light, delicious, high-standard cuisine. The service was also great. Full marks all round, Le Monde!

We ordered drinks with our food and they came after the entree was served. Our empty plates sat there until they brought over our mains. We turned up with our 'two courses for £15' vouchers we'd collected from the newspaper. The waiter did have a vaguely snooty expression on his face when we asked about it, but not to worry - he still had to serve us. To add insult to injury, the 'special' menus were printed on the brightest yellow paper you've ever seen, so everyone in the place could determine the cheapskates (skates - geddit??!) I think this probably says more about my own insecurities and snobbishness than about the actual restuarant, which is traditionally smart, dark wood panels and curtains all round, with some subtley romantic lighting (take note, fellas). Wipe your drool off the wine menu and begin - they'll recommend the perfect bottle so as not to overpower the delicate I had seabass resting on a bed of tangy mustard mash (speckled with mustard seeds) served with sauteed spring greens. Simple, yes, easy to get right, no. Fishers got it better than right. Flaky, meaty flesh versus creamy mash and juicy veg. I'm in an underwater heaven. The main was so filling and zingy, I can barely remember desert. I believe it involved chocolate and cream and was value for moulah, but that ain't very useful to you. What you need to know is that people come here for the fish, and stay here for the fish (and langoustine, and prawns, and lobster, and oysters, and mussels and clams). Dive deep into your pockets and head for Fishers, it's a swimmingly good place to dine.
