I wish I could give it no stars. I went through the drive thru of the restaurant yesterday at approximately 4:46 pm CST. I sat there approximately 5+ minutes and there was no greeting. I finally said "Hello" and only then did someone have sense enough to offer a partial greeting. We stopped by this McDonald's for a quick dinner after my son's soccer game. We went inside to order even though we were gonna eat, in the car, on the way home. See? We needed to be quick =] We open our food and realize the three Big Macs were missing the center bun. #palmtoforehead We go back to see if they can just give us new burgers, correctly made. They stated they ran out of buns. Whaaat?! I can see how this would MAYBE happen. But wouldn't you first let the customers know? So we wouldn't have to come back? Cuz we were in a hurry?! You know the song... Two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. Well. There was no sesame seed bun. Lol! Went through drive through at 12:30am on way home from airport having not eaten all day. There was no customers inside or in drive. After a few minutes a worker said they were only accepting mobile or doordash orders. The sign and online site both state 24/7. It is mcdonalds and late night driving on expressway. I went through the drive through and simply asked for a number 1 the women over the speaker kindly accepted it and then some mad yelled through the speaker "we ain't takin no more orders" no explanation given. I asked what we should do and he interrupts the other employee talking and says "it's going to take so long to get your food I don't thing you would want to order". We stopped here to stretch our legs and were going to order something until we heard a manager (unsure if shift manager or store manager) yelling at fellow employees and following up her shouting with "let me do my damn job"! My mom and I shockingly looked at each other and noticed several other customers concerned about this behavior. It wasn't super busy inside and nobody was causing a commotion besides this woman. She was caucasian, ~40s+ and had on a dark pink colored shirt. This behavior is unacceptable! We suggest she attend some courses on how to treat employees and how to manage stress accordingly. She proceeded to do an interview for someone who was sitting there waiting and had also witnessed her behavior. We hope this is NOT how all management treats their staff at this location. Do not waste your time here, go across the street to Taco Bell where your order is more likely to be accurate, not burnt, and without the unwelcome addition of hair. Just went and wasted $10 here for breakfast with my boyfriend. Was willing to overlook the half of my bagel that was clearly burnt and hard as a rock and then two seconds later my boyfriend bites into his McMuffin and this hair happened to be inside of it. I'm really not even willing to drink my latte at this point without putting it through a strainer to ensure nothing is in it that I didn't order. Considered going back, but I was not mentally prepared to eat the new sandwich they probably would have offered me instead of just giving me a refund. Like I wanted someone to acknowledge that I was at the counter for the 5 minutes I stood there waiting, but I was forced to use the self checkout. For a location that had no one in it and maybe two cars in the drive through it shouldn't be that hard to notice someone at the counter. It's not like I wanted them to greet me or smile or hold a conversation. I just wanted someone to take my order. This is my favorite McDonalds in NW Indiana and I come here several times a week to eat breakfast and do a little bit of work before heading in to the office. The atmosphere is inviting. The staff is very friendly. The music is tasteful and not overpowering. Restaurant is very clean. Food is always fresh and hot. Today, I ordered coffee first and Simone welcomed me with a warm smile and really made my day. David, who waited on me a while later, was very friendly which I have come to expect here from all the staff. Kyle, the host, is always accommodating and friendly and cleared my tray when I was finished. The managers, including the GM are very welcoming and make me want to keep coming back. The entire experience is always a good one. There are other McDonalds that are a bit closer but I'm willing to drive a few extra miles to come here. Good food, fresh coffee, friendly staff, free wi-fi... I'm lovin' it at Portage McDonalds! read more

One time I went to the McDonalds here in portage that closes at 11pm and it was 10:30pm. The employee handed me my bag of food at the drive-thru and gave a speech about how all of my food was fresh. I thought this was unusual, because she really went out of her way to say, "All of your food is fresh, I just wanted you to know the food is fresh and I'm sorry about the wait." Well, I later found out why, and it was because the food was NOT fresh and tasted like it was sitting there for an hour. The speech was because it was her guilty conscience knowing that the food was cooked a long time ago... Their shift was almost over in 25 minutes and they were ready to get off work.
