They open at 5 but won't take your order till like 530. It's happened multiple times. Change the hours if you're not ready

This place sucks. They don't know how to read an order and they are slow. I definitely wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

It still feels like playing roulette everywhere I go, so I prefer to make my own at home. I just cannot do caffeine. I mostly go to shops like this to feel like a human out doing something. The coffee tastes good, but 'm docking a star because even as I type this after leaving, I can feel the not fun effects of caffeine. It can be hit or miss with consistency of what constitutes a large and how milky your drink is, the prices seem to vary from visit to visit, and I often don't recognize the employees. High turnover? There is no public restroom which can be an issue whilst consuming beverages. Aroma also charges a fee if you pay with plastic, so I try to carry cash. I recall being charged for a cup of ice for my herbal tea in the past. Sometimes the tables aren't so clean and the baked goods case can have flies in it. It's looked better this summer. The wooden chairs can be wobbly. Overall it has decent atmosphere. It smells good like caramel when you walk in. There are two metal tables with cafe chairs as well as a bench outside, weather permitting. Rat Pack & classical outside. When music is on inside it's a different genre. The hours can be funky especially in winter or even be unexpectedly closed, but they are never open past 5 PM. Peru rolls the sidewalks up pretty early. I do like that they offer plant milk and have decaf without a weird lecture like the place around the corner... They usually have soy and almond. No coconut, but I usually go with soy lately anyway. Raw sugar, stevia for Lydia, and at least one decaffeinated tea. The baristas I've had recently were pretty pleasant. They have an array of baked goods including bagels and some other food and drink things in a refrigerated case. I've not ever tried the food myself though it looks good. I'm assuming it's local artwork which I've seen for sale on the walls along with handmade jewelry, mugs. They have a sandwich board for a donation program where you can buy a coffee for someone in need. Aroma has loyalty punch cards as well. You can enter the bakery next door through an adjoining door. Walking past I saw the case next door had cupcakes and heard a cake order being taken. So, while Aroma has flaws and I've been to better in other towns, the prices are pretty reasonable for this century and the atmosphere is alright. Cozy and on the Bohemian side. I don't go running there with excitement, but it's alright to sit and chat, especially when it's not crowded, which it often isn't. I like the downtown location.

Nearly three years later, I hoped a second try would go better. Nope. It was worse…read more It's a snowy day. I noticed there was a lack of floor mats at the entrance, meaning none, so I took my time standing on the one (only one) toward the center of the small front space as to not add to the mess of tracks on their nice floor. The counter and walls were less cluttered than before. There were two large brown menu boards on the wall behind the counter which were easy to read. Pre-printed and not handwritten with chalk. I greeted the woman who came out from the back. I waited, but she never said "hello" or offered any assistance. She initially didn't return any eye contact. I asked for a medium (16 oz) decaf with coconut milk with a "please." I was in an especially chipper mood. The woman finally spoke to ask if the woman behind me and I were on the same bill as she wrote on a pad. I told her we were separate. She gave me a total of $5.75, I believe it was. That gave me pause, so I asked about it. A medium cup of coffee was clearly $1.25 on the wall with a 50¢ upcharge for plant milk. "Oh, you just wanted a cup of coffee?" or something to that effect. She looked around and said I'd have to get a K-Cup and motioned to a bin which I thought were for purchase for home use. I said "No, nevermind" and proceeded to leave. The woman said something else where I responded it was too expensive. "No, the K-Cup is..." $1.75 I think she said. I replied I didn't want a K-Cup and left. The lack of greeting already had me instinctually not wanting to stay, but I thought I'd give her a chance, and it just kept spiraling into worse service. It's just absolutely perplexing. I know this is the same woman I encountered before. As stated in my first review, she was argumentative with everyone in line that day, not just myself, about what we wanted to order. Today, yet again, she was confusing and insisting it had to be done another way. I simply wanted a cup of decaf and specified the type of milk. Last time, I was forced to get a latte which cost much more than what I actually wanted - which was just a cup of decaf on ice... Truly a baffling experience, and I wasn't willing to just go along with this nonsense again. I hoped my first experience was a one-off bad day or that she wouldn't be working there anymore. Word of mouth recently told me a man owns 6th Street Coffee Company. It's small and not really set up to sit and hang out, but I wanted to give it another try. They're not open late just like most Peru businesses but were open today unlike the competition around the corner and some other shops. After some searching, I found a really good cup of coffee with refills and poured with smiles elsewhere in town. I wouldn't come back to 6th Street if it were free at this point. I'm really not sure how they're still around. I'll go where I'm appreciated and receive what I ordered for the advertised price. A greeting, a smile, and words of thanks are basics which go a long way.
