My husband's aunt and uncle remarked how good the brunch buffet is, and it did not disappoint. The best part: There was a great selection of food that we along with my kids enjoyed (not an easy feat with these picky eaters!). Among the selection: pancakes, french toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, watermelon slices, fruit salad, granola, cream puffs, coffee cake, fried shrimp, fried chicken, an omelette station and more. The french toast and fried chicken were particularly good. The service was fast, and we were able to get a table for eight after waiting just a few minutes. It's a relief to find someplace where we can all eat. I bet this will be in the Hayward rotation of spots we regularly go to.

I'm going to amend my earlier two star review and balance it out with five stars. As we were preparing to leave we were asked to wait an additional 5 minutes, which we did. The cheeseburgers were good. We were even comped on the beer we had ordered, which was very classy. At least tonight, at 8:00 p.m., this appeared to be very much a drinking establishment. I don't recall seeing any food ordered or delivered, although perhaps there was some. The young girl tending the bar was excellent.

Twin Oaks is a fairly popular, typical north woods bar/greasy spoon for northern Wisconsin. It used to be very, VERY smokey and loud, raucous on weekends. Especially as more and more Minnesotans started building "cabins" in the region. Nothing against them just, many of them come here to party and be obnoxious, forgetting that during the other 50 weeks of the year they are not around, this is a real community with folks just trying to get by. For those 2 weeks they do show up and make lots of noise, and for some reason feel the need to shove the fact that they are from Minnesota in your face...whatever. grow up. Luckily, I have plenty of family in MN, too so, I know not all folks from there are so obnoxious. Supposedly smoking is banned but, last couple of times I was there, people were smoking. They lost their license for food service and, rumor has it, some financial troubles, have contributed to a decline. I avoid the place on weekends, especially during hunting season and winter, when the snow-mobilers take the place over. Not a criticism, just not my type of crowd. I'll try going again for a burger or lunch...hopefully they'll get food service back.

Adequately staffed, it handled a nice-sized late lunch crowd without problems. The whiteboard displayed breakfast specials; however, Wednesday afternoon didn't offer any lunch specials. The menu for lunch wasn't huge but offered up a fair amount of choices to satisfy most tastes. My partner ordered a California burger and fries. While messy, it was a good-sized burger. I had the Reuben sandwich and fries. It was a filling sandwich and had good flavor. I think both my partners and I would agree that it wouldn't hurt the cooks to throw a few more French fries in the oil when filling fry orders. I'm not sure what I have been looking at, but the menu that was actually available was smaller than I had anticipated. It could be because this is the shoulder season between summer crowds and winter crowds. I wish there had been more options available for a vegetarian. Nonetheless, I loved my bloody Mary and appreciated that they served it with a snit of beer without even asking. I ordered a small cheese, pizza, and it was very good. Not exactly what I was looking for, but it still made me happy. The staff was super friendly and attentive, even though they were very busy.
